Spoiler alert for the grade I was very torn over whether Tarbo or Clash was worse. Tarbo just edged it out because while they both constantly lie to their audience, at least Clash has a few more slightly redeeming qualities. Not all of its information is terrible.

@@joshuaW5621 Yeah, in Jurassic Fight Club it was also inaccurate, but at least there, the hadrosaur actually had the excuse of being trapped in a gulch, and it TRIED to defend itself, and the raptors were specifically aiming at its throat. But here, the Tsintaosaurus just stands there like a moron even tho it should be able to simply step on the raptors, but no, it just stands there and gets defeated by the raptors simply scratching its legs. 🤦‍♂️

Actually, the Velociraptor and Protoceratops being 2m tall was the result of a translation error. The original narration states them as being 2m LONG (which makes much more sense with their onscreen size in all their scenes, especially around larger dinosaurs), not 2m tall. You’re right about all the other inaccuracies, though.

12:01 Finally! Someone gets it! Films will always be unrealistic for the sake of a good film, gotta give the people what they need! But, documentaries dont have that blessing! It's in the name for crying out loud! A documentary is supposed to DOCUMENT possible facts and traits to tell the viewers what someone or something's life was like and do so as factually correct as possible. Like, for films, it's just Hollywood business, accuracy was never the goal and this Hollywood dream of dinosaurs is clearly just that. A dream. But when a documentary makes up bullshit that they claim to be the truth and not some hocus pocus bullshit, that's basically lying to your audience, your audience which came here for the facts, not the feats!
@christiancinnabars1402
@christiancinnabars1402 2 жыл бұрын
Like, if you are going to dumb down the facts in your documentary, _just make a normal movie instead._ Making a documentary and _purposely_ getting the facts wrong is straight up choosing the worst of both worlds. You face the same scrutiny that documentaries do while at the same time denying yourself the creative freedoms offered by putting out a standard Hollywood flick.

I'm glad I enjoy the thrill of what will paleontology tell us more about these creatures, its always bothered me some people seem to push back against more modern depictions and discoveries because it doesn't fit their JP dino tropes. But to me I've always thought new findings are what make Dinos even cooler, like the lip thing it makes sense and it just makes them cooler and more grounded because you can draw comparisons to animals today vs millions of years ago they feel more REAL.

Technically, the sauropod specie showing in this Dinodoc, Pukyongosaurus millenniumi, still, in fact, Valid ! But with the mention "Nomen Dubium" or "Dubious" in english usage in paleontology domain. A Dubious genus is a genus that we don't know if, due to the poor elements that not allow a definitive conclusion and sufficient diagnostic, he is a normal 100% valid genus or in reality a member of a already described genus described and discovered at least some time before. If it's definitely proven that the later case is what the genus is, so it is listed under the title "Invalid" (and reciving also the title of "Synonym Junior"). And not as "Nomen Dubium/Dubious". Since the exact definition of the word dubious is "Whose existence or realization is not certain". Meaning that we can legitimately have doubts on the truth or relevance of something but with the possibility that reamin possibilities and some percents where the thing in question can be, at final at the opposite of our thought, indeed true ! So, at the moment, this genus, as the same for all others extincts genus title "Dubious" must be look at as valid despite this labeling. And that, until we definitely have a definitive answer to their classification, either giving them the title of "Valid" like we originally thought or "Invalid" if there not true genus. There many genus we at some point thought to be invalid and received before, waiting new more advanged studies, to confirm and see if it's the case, that finally at the end be definitively reconized as Valid. Like the Brontosaurus we thought during many decades to be Invalid and a Synonym Junior of Apatosaurus. Which was at the end not the case at all... But I also understand why, after he received the title " Dubious" pending final confirmation, a genus is not re-used in a documentary so much after the labeling. Because if it's turn that he's Invalid, so the Documentary show a misleading information. Which is understandable in many points.

Is the next reveiw going to be Walking with Dinosaurs the movie? It's actually fairly accurate when you remove the parts there the dinosaurs talk (the most inaccurate thing is probably when they say "Troodon" although it's a dubious name). The Blu-Ray release of the film actually has an option to watch the "Cretaceous Cut" which removes the voices but keeps the music and sound effects.
@orionmclaughlin5680
@orionmclaughlin5680 2 жыл бұрын
The only problems with the Cretaceous Cut that aren't accuracy problems are that sometimes there are scenes where the movie pauses and they just have some dialogue. The Cretaceous Cut keeps these scenes and just has them be silent. It's kind of awkward.

@@orionmclaughlin5680 Finally, someone else who thinks the Cretaceous Cut is awkward. For the longest time, I thought I was the only one who saw that. It’s the biggest reason I prefer the dub. The dub just flows better. Not to mention it’s funny af. Oh, and the Walking with Dinosaurs Movie is not a documentary, unless you count the Gorgosaurus segment. In the dub, it is narrated by Alex, but in the Cretaceous Cut there is no narration when there really should be. It just feels incomplete.

Oh yeah South Korea does kind of have a track record for making utterly garbage paleo docs. I remember there's another SK documentary about the then-newly-discovered Koreaceratops called "The Secret of Ceratopsian" and the premise is about a Koreaceratops time traveled to the present day. What's even more WTF is the fact the human caretaker character of the documentary became very attached (I'm using "attached" very loosely here). You really should review it.

Pointy wings as minus? Well no, even Dr. Daren Niesh said that pointy wings in pterosaurs are much more acurrate and logical in terms of aerodynamics, thats why all pterosaurs in prehistoric planet has exactly pointy wings, not rounded, - no evidence of such wings and no point of having them like this. there was a whole facebook post of him debunking that stereotype as well.

Yes, though it remain as some kind of a nostalgic memory to my inner twelve, it should never be called as "documentary". Of course the production of the program was pretty dangerous challenge in Korea(not north)'s broadcasting environment at that time. However even considering that, as a "documentary" produced by a "educational broadcasting company", this one is definitely terrible utter failure. And yes i love your decision not to mention those movies. They are horribly twisted money craving abominations.

@@govardhanposina17 it was south korea's first large scale CGI based dinosaur documentary(or planned to be at least), so it had faced lots of opposition for budget, production time and technological possibilities. So they had to succeed, and that's probably why they focused mostly on childish popularity rather than scientific accuracy. Because of this and well known misplacements of mongolian dinosaurs, some serious paleo nerds in korea even regard this progrsm as some kind of nationalism propaganda.
