I would absolutely buy a Chinese EV if it costs $10k less than the made in Canada counterpart, and adding Tariffs is simply making Canadian consumers pay more, which probably isn't the best interest of Canadians... ofc more and more people will lose their jobs in the car industry in Canada if Chinese EVs aren't properly regulated, but it's simply wrong to raise prices of cars to the point that it is unaffordable yet still pretty unreliable...

The only way to protect jobs is to innovate, tariffs will only kill the Canadian auto industry . When the dust settles there’s gonna be only Tesla ( in America and Mexico) the Chinese Evs, Toyota and the Europeans luxury’s car brands , all the rest of the companies will disappear.

The elephant in the room is not China, it’s bad governance from short sighted, corrupted, and unqualified politicians. Banning Chinese EVs or imposing tariffs are only good for the Legacy auto companies, not the people. Canada will only fall further behind if it doesn’t take advantage of Chinese technology and adopt electric vehicles. Training your workforce for future technology is the winning strategy, not putting up barriers for the technology to enter your country.
