Looking at social media suggests a considerable overlap between 'FBPE' hashtags and New Labour supporters - all of whom commonly overlook the many negative facets of 'Europe'. Not least the horrific police brutality in Paris, Catalonia; nor the corruption which underpinned the destruction of Greece. The Euro, a stroke of genius for those that benefited - principally Germany, and France; but the reality for less robust nations is clear. As Hudson pointed out, the relationship between sovereign nations and debt is rooted in their capability to print (digitally create) money. Gifting that power to a monolithic entity is both dangerous, and ludicrous. (as is general government policy which sees wisdom in 'borrowing' from banks - which is a great illustration of just how deep corruption runs in most Western states)

What seems to emerge for me from the historical review, and his assessment of the effects of what is wrong - is not to point at this or that system as the demon or the savior - but - to identify that systems fail when abused by corrupt actors. Until corruption is thoroughly dealt with, no system is better or worse - because they all fail on this pivotal point.

@@michaelbunner7387 listen to someone from East Europe about socialism and think twice after that..... Socialism failed the entire Easter block, why do you think? Because was good? No way it failed, it is the system thought on the surface without going into the essence of the process. Deep down into the application of socialism it's in fact an extremely totalitarian dictatorship, otherwise it's not working the way they talk about it. Stop dreaming about socialism because all these false prophets who talk about it have no clue how it works and how is to be implemented, not talking about the fact they didn't even live in it. What they call those good points, they would not work without the bad ones that were much more than the good ones. One more thing: in capitalism the patron gets richer and also the employee gets rich, while in socialism the patron (state) owns everything and employee gets poorer doesn't matter how hard is trying..... Plus all it's basic rights are suspended forever. This guy is an absolute imbecile-idiot, and this is coming from someone who lived and grow up in socialism, half of my life.

TY for posting, so rich in ideas and information. 10 years after Ali's lecture have proved his foresight accurate. Diverse compassionate economists such as Yanos Varoufakis and Pope Francis (research by papal university) have concluded Capitalism does not address the needs of the populaces nor the options for preserving the vast varieties of life on our planet. The Chinese currently have a highbred economic system of socialism, meritocracy and marketplace. Embedded in their constitution is the elimination of poverty. Seems like a good starting place to model.
@kwakkers682 жыл бұрын
Interesting post. It does seem that the West is meeting with a paradoxical ending - Capitalism, which its rampant, bloodthirsty imperialism has been driven by, is incapable of sustaining its elites, their power. It is evident, the longevity of a state, its interests, are ultimately tied to that of the populous. We're already seeing Capitalists traditional response to threat - attempting to draw populations towards the Far-Right, far wrong, with elements such as the NF in France drawing on Left ideas to bolster their draw; whilst Trump critiqued 'establishment power', whilst in reality servicing Wall Street and co. It's difficult to be optimistic. Apathy and ignorance tend to be high across Western states' voters, but there are drivers for fundamental change too - - ridiculous student debt - corporate inroads into Health services - heating bills - general revulsion in criminal wars - cynicism of both the political and media world But for all that, the Privatisation of elections admin, and the establishments near total grip on mainstream parties, who can run, who gets support, discourse, points to a very, very dark future.

Some things are more important than a smoothly running state. One of these is human freedom. Freedom is actually the main thing that makes us human. This is because freedom is always allied with responsibility. Any state that reduces freedom and responsibility in its citizens also reduces their humanity. China in some provinces is in the process of doing this. People living under this social credit mass surveillance system will rapidly devolve into sub human slaves. This is the inevitable result of this kind of totalitarianism. It's not possible for nation states to be harmonious and smooth running because of the fundamental nature of human beings. We are cunning, deceptive, fight loving, contentious, ruthless survivalists at heart. If you don't know this about yourself , then you have lived a very sheltered life and I reccomend you go and live in the nearest slum area in your city for awhile. If you survive physically , you will certainly change mentally. Real human nature is a beautiful thing and is seen more clearly in those living on the edge.
@justj85652 жыл бұрын
@@nickjohnparker1 - You say "we are cunning, deceptive, fight loving, contentious, ruthless survivalists because of fundamental nature of human beings" .... We can also be caring, loving, sharing, charitable, kind, generous and all other virtuous human characteristics. If these were the criteria we measured success of a human being and our societies and recognised that a society where we practiced and promoted our 'better, humane characteristics' would be to the good for the majority then there would not be any reason to use the negative, base 'fundamental characteristics' of human beings. This may not be a society with a handful of very rich people, a less materialistic society but will be a society where those in need are looked after and leading to happier and more content communities and countries. I believe if we use our less base 'fundamental nature' and use our 'better natures' to care and share with all then us as individuals will move away from our 'base characteristics' and have a better and more fulfilling life!

How can you “learn from the past” - as he promotes in opening this sermon - when your view on life and culture requires you to exclude or minimize any aspects which challenge your ideology. Tariq Ali has spent an entire lifetime searching feverishly for any fragments of history to fuel his consuming anti- western hatred. An intellect wasted through bitter ideology - whilst determinedly insisting upon living amongst people he despises, and in a country which he constantly reviles and criticises.
@justj85652 жыл бұрын
Don't you think recent history has shown the truth of what he is saying? Where did globalism, EU, chasing after cheap goods helped people, jobs in each country - Britain? Hardly any manufacturing left and when not everyone can or want to be highly educated and do jobs accordingly pile up on the unemployment heap, surviving on benefits as they do not have work they can do. Then you had more jobs disappearing as IT and Customer Service call centre jobs were shipped out abroad. Higher unemployment and further dependency on benefits and another group of people marginalised in society. Then firstly we were told that a handful of people partaking in terrorism were part of an ideology we must fight - Islam! But Islam had nothing to do with these terrorist just that they were followers of Islam but also misguided as Islam completely rejects and kind of violence towards innocent people. But the message that Islam was responsible for this terrorism was flashed daily on to our screens! And then we targeted certain countries like Iraq and Afghanistan and went to war with them. To what purpose? To kill millions of innocent people (ironically to a far greater degree than what those handful of terrorists killed), plunder and fill the coffers of the rich. How did this benefit the ordinary on the street? Did it make our streets safer? Or it just made politicians and the rich richer? So the 'war on terror' created even further terror and involved our governments in atrocious acts (imprisoning innocent people, involved in torture) lying to the people when telling us we needed to fear Iraq's weapons of mass destruction when none existed, attacked whole countries in pursuit of individuals (Osama bin Laden, Saddam Hussein) but was that really the aim as these people could have been taken out by other means not involving invading these countries or we were just being told that for governments to invade these countries for other reasons. Like getting free oil, mineral deposits from Afghanistan, like trying to enforce western ideology to them? How has all of this benefited the ordinary citizens? And now the war in Ukraine. Why is the emphasis not on negotiated for peace? Why are governments not calling for a ceasefire and then negotiating a long term peaceful solution? Why was the US involved in sabotaging the Nordstrom pipelines and blaming Russia. Why is there so much aid and weaponry being given to Ukraine when we are told we have to tighten out belts but our tax money is going to Ukraine. Why are NATO staff (or former NATO staff as the resign so that they can be sent to Ukraine) going to Ukraine as 'consultants' to help with the sophisticated weaponry Ukraine? Why are the actions of governments bent on prolonging the war? Why is their main concern not human lives but crushing Putin? Why sanctions against Russia when these sanctions are not hurting Russia but their own people in price rises and shortage of energy? Why continue with sanctions when it became obvious that these were not hurting Russia as Russia just found new markets for its gas but Europe faces a bleak winter as we are all warned that heating costs will double and treble, we are told to conserve and not use (if we can even afford it)? Surely, looking back does it not seem that the action of our governments does not appear to be in the best interest of all it's (or majority) of its population instead of making the rich even richer? Surely looking back you can see the truth of what Mr. Ali is saying? Who benefitted from invading Iraq? Afghanistan? Who benefitted to sinking to the levels that governments did by torturing random innocent individuals who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time? Our governments cannot even take the moral high ground when they participated in even greater destruction, killing people in the millions, oppression and plunder than those people they said they were saving us from! Surely with hindsight can you not see that we are being lied to? We are being lied to so that we give our governments a free hand to go do what they want, when they want with our consent as we have been frightened into thinking it's them or us! Surely you can see how media reports just what we they need us to hear rather than reporting unbiased, both sides of a story? Why can't our governments concentrate its efforts in their own countries and let countries faraway concentrate on themselves?
