Changing your habitual movement patterns isn't just about learning new movement patterns. Learning new movement patterns requires you to have a completely different perspective as habitual patterns are habitual movements, habitual thinking, habitual feeling, habitual sensing all intertwined. This means this process challenges your current beliefs and knowledge as you cannot rely on what you already know. If your success is dependent upon your beliefs and knowledge, you'll always be limited by your current beliefs. Let's move beyond your limitations by shifting your perspective and retraining your nervous system through movement retraining!

I'm not easily amazed, but I am amazed. I always understood that our minds are under constant assault from propaganda and social pressures, and that in so many ways we are pressured to behave a certain way, think a certain way and are compromised by the cultures we live in (without exception / only a matter of degree!), but I didn't realize until I heard what you had to say, is the degree to which we are moving in "shorthand" / habitually like robots or machines, and how much we are disconnected from our authentic self mentally, emotionally and physically because of how we move physically - it's like we have chains on to restrict our movements! I always knew there was something I couldn't put my finger on, that really bothered me about goose-stepping "excercises" in groups, or imitating a leader - NOW I know: We're supposed to be listening to and in tune with our own being and body - not ignore ourselves, and immitate someone else. Thank you Taro!

My pleasure! Humans are the only animal that needs user manuals for how to move, which is very interesting if you think about it. We, adults dont find it strange to ask "experts" to teach them how they should move their bodies and how they should feel. We would certainly find it funny if babies all read instruction manuals on how to sit, stand, walk properly. But, many adults actually try to intervene and correct their bodies and movement patterns so early on, and take their opportunities to explore and learn, which can be detrimental and can affect how they develop later.

that's how movement practice should be, at least used to be for all of us. we're learning to connect with our body and joy and pleasure of experiencing ourselves as our body!

Here's an important thing to know. Everything is connected. There's no "fixing" of your knee without improving a relationship between knee and others, the whole relationship, interconnectedness. You're improving a relationship with your body, YOU through nervous system and movement retraining! Enjoy!

Thank you so much Taro, I am feeling as a whole, so much better through your videos, this is an incredible self awareness and self healing method. I am releasing a knot in my scapula that's been going on +5 years, thanks to your videos. do you have a video about how to adjust our atlas C1 ? I have done most of your neck videos for a few days now. They are helping a lot! but I think specifically my atlas is really out.

I have found your videos very helpful. I do have knee pain from osteoarthritis and tried this but it really hurt my knees, trying to keep the pad flat. Any suggestions? Think I supinate a lot when I walk could this be causing some of my issues?

sorry, I meant over supinate, my feet turn to the outside.
@TaroIwamoto

Wonderful! you can just imagine having a pad on the sole of your foot and go through these movements. It's possible that because of osteoarthritis in your knee, you oversupinate, in which case, forcing you to correct supination can stress your knee. But, improving coordination between your torso, hips, and knees, and ankles would be helpful, that is what this movement lesson focuses on.

as I said to you before, I am not here to teach Feldenkrais Method. I am here to share my knowledge and experiences including the principles of Feldenkrais Method to help people live their life more comfortably. I feel that putting things in categories and sharing from a small perspective can miss the most important thing, that is to help people improve quality of their life. Getting caught up with labels or names can only limit us. Whether it is called Feldenkrais Method, qigong, aikido, taiji, Alexander Technique, etc, thats not important at least as far as I am concerned. It is wonderful that you support Feldenkrais Method, I do too, and I believe it offers so many good things. But it is more important that we focus on people, not a method or technique. Thank you for your concern.
