I bought one yesterday. Had a Zpacks duplex in the cart and ready to purchase, but stumbled on this tent as YT was referring new videos to me. Even though it was more expensive, the Double Rainbow Li looked like the cat's meow.

Your tent looks way bigger on the inside than I expected looking at the outside. Thanks for another informative gear video. I love these & learn a lot about new gear (as compared to the stuff my family used in the 70s & 80s).

I just made the purchase! I have been largely a trekking pole tent hiker. I own both X-Mid Models, REI, and a big 4 person single pole Teepee tent by River Country. By tradition I’ve only used trekking pole tents and never freestanding shelters. Weight was important. After I watched your video I went and purchased the Double Rainbow LI. My feeling as that I’m still using trekking poles with the DRL (free standing mode) so I’m still keeping to tradition. Thanks for the video! I’m off to The Enchanted Valley!

I think this the best video on the TT Double Rainbow Li. I'm about which version to go with: the nylon or dyneema. I guess my concern is the transparency of dyneema. Just how transparent is it and how did you acclimate to this. Thanks!

How have you found it with the aluminium arch pole? Henry Shires (owner of Tarptent) doesn't recommend it with the Double Rainbow Li as it "flexes a bit differently than carbon ... and there’s no way to stretch the fabric out to account for the differences."

Awesome look at that, great set up. I personally recommend our 64 and 81 series Canadian Forces canvas tent, it's a 3 stage unit, can be setup for summer, winter and wet weather. Can find at surplus stores, usually 50 bucks CAD and lasts for about 60 years of hard use.

How is it as far as condensation goes in humid climates?
@bawattsyl
@bawattsyl 3 жыл бұрын
@@Cgh432 Evie, you do get some condensation in reality humid areas, however, due to the sloping design of the walls, and the mesh perimeter vents at the bottom, any consideration just runs out. So far I haven't had any issues and I've had the tent in the desert, the Sierra, and out here in VA.. and we have terrible humidity here... That's why I got the liner. But I've never had a problem with anything in the tent getting wet. And the liner is so light i just keep it in usually. Plus I feel like the liner keeps the tent warmer on colder nights. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like my old tarptent that is sil nylon was warmer than my Dynnema ones( with the same bedding etc) and personally I'd highly recommend getting the aluminum arch pole in lieu of the carbon fiber..especially if you're doing a thruhike, or know you're going to use it in the shoulder seasons, and or winter.. or you're in a windy area... The aluminum pole is just ten times more durable, and if you were to feel the two next to each other you'd see what I meant. I'm sure the carbon fiber one is fine, however, for me i just didn't want to run the risk of being out in the middle of no where with a broken pole. If you buy this tent you can ask them to substitute the carbon fiber pole for the aluminum one. I didn't know at thy time so I ordered the aluminum one after. But I'll probably use the carbon one on weekend car camping trips or things like that since I have it. There's roughly a 3 oz difference in weight between the two poles.. the carbon fiber pole does come with a little repair section, however, in my experience carbon fiber has a tendency to break catastrophically when it does break.. and can be hard to repair in the field..as compared to aluminum which often just bends some..I guess it all depends on you and what you feel comfortable with:) I would highly recommend getting the rainbow roost. It's an awesome accessory and I wish they put it standard with the tent...because it really is great for keeping your gear organized, putting a light to read at night etc. Let me know if you have any other questions:)) thank you for watching🙏

And as far as back packs go, I purchased a (medium-sized) "Eagle Creek" back pack about 15 yrs ago and I must carry 20 lbs at least twice @ week in it and never has there been a stitch out of place or a zipper to have ever failed, nor has the fabric ever shown any signs of wear. It's as new as the day I bought it! I highly recommend them. 🎒💓

Thank you! Yeah I wasso devastated when my pack and all my gear was stolen back in summer of 2020..it had taken several years to put all that gear together.. thankfully my family and friends helped me replace it, and the rest I found on crazy sales during black Friday. But this tent is absolutely wonderful! You could hold a garden hose on it all day and it wouldn't wet out.. And it dries super fast so no more lugging around wet sil nylon..I think if they can figure out how to make Dynnema more affordable it will be the full wave of the future of tents.. thanks for your feedback🙏

Love hiking. Sleeping in a tent - not so much. The last time I slept in a tent, a snorting animal sniffed the back of my tent and started scratching. Fortunately, that was back in the day when tents were made of heavy duty canvas. I don't know what kind of animal it was. We were in the Sierra Nevadas above Angel's Camp.

Edmundon, it was during the hight of covid. I was in the area of Lassen Volcanic national park, there were a ton of fire closures and I was unfamiliar with the area. I dropped my pack in an area I thought was OK and went to find a ranger. When I returned my pack was gone. Thankfully I had my fanny pack with most of my crucial things. It sucked and if you watch a few of my videos around that time I explain more in detail what happened. Thank you for watching🙏

At abiut 420 hou mention that the tent csn fit 2 25 in pads with room to spare. That hasn't been my experience. With two 25 inch pads they lean aganist the outside walls causung the tent walls to deflect little. On mine one 25 and one 20 barely fits without touching the outside walls.
