Taryl. Love your videos and your skits. Appreciate your knowledge as well. Just a few things I noticed. The 1015 edgers from 1970 to 1974 said 16:1 on the shroud starting instructions but they have the 2 ring piston and needle bearings on the small end of the rod so they could be run at 32:1. The small hole in the filter housing base is a weep hole to allow extra prime fuel to run out without getting the paper filter wet. There would originally been a piece of filter material held in with a clip. Obviously missing now. The engine on the edgers was a single speed and the only governor spring was on the crankshaft under the governor assembly. The secondary spring on the back of the governor lever was only used on the 2 speed machines to make 3200 RPM as the primary spring on the 2 speed models was for the low speed of 2600 RPM. Those edgers take a 9 x2 blade. You can use the Oregon blades. The one you were working on looked badly bent, more like it had curved ends. Also there is only one correct way to install the belt on the edger because you have to be able to rotate the blade from vertical for edging to horizontal for trimming. The way you have the belt installed you would not be able to rotate the blade to the horizontal position or the belt would be twisted 180 degrees. The correct way to install them is to turn the blade horizontal so both pulleys are in the same plane. Install the belt with no twist. When you rotate the blade vertically the belt will have a 1/4 twist. The blade runs backwards on these throwing the edged material forward. I have two of these edgers. One is restored and the other is repainted and gets used. Hope this additional information is helpful to your viewers. Keep up the good work. Bill

I like that Taryl shows his mistakes. Fixing old stuff is always something of a trial and error. I owned a commercial landscape company back in the early ninetees. We use a bunch of the last year model 2 stroke Lawnboys and the 2 stroke Toro (who bought out Lawnboy) on the steep slopes of commercial projects. We had the Motorola campus in Oak Hill TX. and used the Lawn boy and Toro a lot to give a nice cut that normally only a weedeater would be able to access. Good times!!! Never used an edger in 15 years in the lawn business. Just turned the weedeater up on it's side and taught my staff to do the same.

I just went through a recoil like this with a busted spring end. After breaking bits off the end of the spring trying to replicate the curl, I replaced it with a wave shaped bend. Wound spring in by hand before attaching pulley. Preloaded and clamped gently with a small vice grip at the 6 o'clock position. Installed at that point and removed the vice grip. Never thought of winding it in through the groove in the pulley case. Next time -
