What's the part number of the opaque fuel filter you use on riding mowers?

Can you do a video on fuel line too (if you haven't already)? There's much ado about the clear lines versus the black rubber fuel lines and their durability. Seems most fuel line regardless of composition hardens after use, becomes brittle and becomes a hassle.

I’m still occasionally pushing a Briggs and Stratton that’s probably older than you, but you’re a Honda fanboy, same motor for every application, generator, push mower, or your crappy civic with the fart can on the back that makes all that noise and you still can’t put accelerate that 28 year old F150 with the 5.4 that has 3 dead cylinders and won’t downshift into first. I get it, it’s so easy to throw away that Honda crap and replace it with a cheap far superior engine from Harbor Freight and forget about it and Briggs runs too long to make a small engine shop any money so talk shit about the Briggs. Honestly your channel pops up in alt accounts and I done forgot why I don’t watch you then you remind me I have to sift through decades of failed dad joke attempts to get anything out of the video IF I can let it run that long. I’m saying your idea of comedy is unappealing to me. You know it’s not carbudator but you keep on with it because your niece giggled once at it 15 years ago. Don’t change for me but when you watch those metrics praying they increase in your favor understand some of us don’t care for the wasteful filler and already k ow the answer to the question you titled the video after and we go away knowing that you meant to mislead us into clicking for even one view. Does Chichanic do all that? Or that weird Canadian guy who’s always DEI king terrible yuppie “beers”? No. They immediately get into the topic of the title and they present it and their take and why that’s their take on occasion. Do you even small engine at all? Yes your daily driver is some teenagers crappy old 93 civic hatchback with a wannabe predator engine that makes half the torque and power and burns 7 times the fuel and because of the $120 “performance exhaust kit” it makes 3 times the legal limit of racket while achieving top speeds in the neighborhood of 35-55 MPH.

The red ones at least, can be infinitely blown out (to clean them) with an air gun in the opposite direction of flow. I have one on a mower that has never been replaced in 20+ years because it is easier to clean it and it's not really a wear item like the paper element ones. You can see through the red ones as it is just a mesh screen. It has never sprung a leak either, it is a very durable little piece probably made too well for its own good.

I like those little Briggs filters with the stainless steel screen over any of the paper ones. If your mower does not have a fuel pump do not use a paper element filter because they can be to restrictive to gravity feed. If you get a tiny bit of water in your fuel with a 50+ micron paper element filter installed, the water will actually coat and clog the paper element up. Water is almost twice as thick as Gasoline is. Gasoline density is 0.6 g/mL and water density 1.0 g/mL.
@ItsMrAssholeToYou
@ItsMrAssholeToYou 6 ай бұрын
Density and viscosity aren't directly related. Motor oil has similar density to gasoline, yet is far thicker than water.

Taryl, I think the main reason for the paper element filters being directional is because if the fuel enterers the center of filter there is not near as much filter media exposed for filtering thus reducing the overall capacity of the filter. Not near as much filter surface area if its plumbed backwards. I'm thinking that came from my father years ago that was a mechanic all his life. I just thought I would share my father's opinion. Keep the videos coming! I watch them all!

Great video, answered most of the questions concerning small engine fuel filters. I purchase Wix 33003 filters from O'Reilly's. According to them it is a 20 micron filter. The price went way up (30% increase) so I purchased what looked like Wix 33003 filters from Scamazon and noticed within a couple of months n the filters were turning dark. So I replaced them with the Wix 33003's. Lesson learned!

Taryl Informative video as are all your videos! Thank you!!! That Kohler that died after 30 mins. I had the same issue. In my case it Turns out the filter that doesn’t work was exclusively intended for a fuel pump style system. It did not work with gravity feed. It barely would dribble fuel through it. So I went to the Non Fuel pump kohler filter and all was good. Great flow.

The thing is about fuel filters is that often they are just doing their job. The mistake I think Taryl is making here is that some filters (OEM Krohler) are bad. Well assuming the gas is actually clean out of the pump at the station is not always correct. My own personal stuff ends up clogged up, and my red 5 gallon cans end up with some junk in the bottom. After a few uses. I keep stuff clean, but the fuel we buy has been in a lot of tanks, pipes, tankers, delivery tankers, you get the idea. The Shamazon filters breaking down is a real thing, thanks Taryl! Use filters which work. My favorite filters are the Breaks&Scrap'em 75 micron pancake. They work, and they are cheap. On my big equipment, I use a spin-on fuel/water separator from Parker R12T. Small Diesel tractor and my classic 59 Ford.

I drove it to work the next day and noticed I could just barely feather the throttle or it would die. That day my window and steering column was broke and the car was taken. I found it across the street from work 😂. I guess the theif had a hard time with his quick getaway. Car was a 1988 or 89 Cadillac Brougham.

Hello Taryl & GrassRats; The three and early four digit Cub Cadets with the Kohler KT17 engines had the reed looking filter that is incorporated within the fuel shut off that sticks upwards into the fuel tank through the rubber tank grommet. My bad experience with this type of filter was that I lost fuel flow in which I discovered that the filter had collapsed and folded itself over cutting off the fuel flow. So, I ordered the fuel shut off valve that did not have the reed type filter being that I commonly use the external filters anyway. The “Quiet Line” series of Cub Cadets had the heavy side covers which makes it somewhat difficult to easily access the fuel cut off and fuel line leading to the fuel pump which I guess that Cub Cadet decided to utilize this type of fuel filter. Upon removal of my carburetor, I found very fine grit like sand that was within the carburetor bowl. I am planning on replacing the mechanical type fuel pump with a pulse type fuel pump similar to one of Taryls previous videos except I have a Mikuni metallic pump that I want to try. A great comparison would be the plastic type of pulse fuel pump vs the metallic pulse type fuel pump. Like the fuel filters, There’s also issues with the knockoff fuel pumps being very sub par.

Another filter you forgot to mention is the screen right inside the hose barb of the carburetor. I've seen this on Powersmart, Powermore and a few other engines. Real head scratcher why the engine runs great no skipping for a few minutes then dies out like it's starving for fuel and then restarts about 5 minutes later. With these I just use a needle to punch through that filter so it's no longer a problem and put on a real fuel filter.

👍👍...awesomely informative. I learned a few things and I thought that I am pretty knowledgeable on filters. Thanks 🐲🦖

Those "crappy ones" you pointed out, they also tend to break off in the fuel hose when you goto change them, so we got rid of them with the quikness. We had the stens brand. We only use the 7998, those briggs red ones and the Kohler efi filters. No issues with those 3.

I always put the little plastic ones with the mesh towards the "carb be trator". That way, any particles can settle to the bottom of the plastic when not in use. I had not thought about a chainsaw filter getting bad enough to stop the oil from going through. Will change those a bit more often now.

My 1997 Crapsman tractor with a Kroller engine ... gravity fed....is very sensitive to the fuel filter. If you look up the part it says to use one of those Kroller paper filters but it will sputter and stall under heavy load. Just like the story you told at 24:12 while looking at the catalog. I have to use one of those screen filters and it runs ok.

I bought a 20 yr old Ariens rider that the owner only used maybe 6 times, looks wise in mint shape but hydro locked...a carb kit was $70, so me being cheap bought a KIPA carb on Scamazon and had very good luck with it!
