Looking forward to this TAS! I know these are technically opposites, but this reminds me of a video I watched years ago where someone played Metroid: Fusion and Metroid: Zero Mission at the same time, with both games being controlled by the same set of inputs. I don't know if that type of run could be done in Hollow Knight (maybe combine an any% run with a Godseeker Mode run?), but these changes to the way we think about the game are always super interesting to me.

I kind of expected it to be "Two separate games with the same TAS inputs" but I'm not sure how that would be interesting, seeing as TAS is so easily replicated and can set seeds, so maybe not the greatest idea.

That would be hilarious, but it would have an extremely difficult workflow, since I can only work on one TAS at a time (HK uses up way too much memory to have enough for savestates for two instances.) The current workflow is basically TAS one knight for a while, record their sync states, copy those to a sync file for the other TAS, do that one for a while, then back and forth.

@@jarlyk Do you have any sense of what sort of computer specs would be necessary to make the other variant a reality? Not that I'd be able to help in a meaningful way, this is more out of curiosity.

@@Deathranger999 Something that can run two VMs with 16GB each would probably work. It would still be a really awkward workflow, though, so would probably want to implement some tooling to sync the inputs so that they don't have to just be copied and pasted for every change. And to sync the playback so that they don't diverge on current frame.

This is sick, but would it be possible to see both knights perspectives or does the second knight not have a loaded room to even be able to see?

The final video will have both perspectives; I'm planning on a picture-in-picture type view, switching the large view based on whichever knight is doing the more interesting thing at the time. It's basically done by building two separate TASes and using a script file to inject geo, items, etc. at the correct matching times from the other TAS. It's built by continuously going back and forth between the two TASes, updating the sync file and slowly making progress on each.

this sounds really fun, I can already see a 112 run with this, while a knight takes hornet the other one goes to claw into deepnest maybe? all of this while timing the rooms in a way that doesn't lose them time or something. Im curious, what happens if they meet in the same room, can they pogo themselves to get somewhere? cause that would be even crazier

Multiplayer pogo would be cool, though the only time they're ever in the same room for any length of time is in KP at the very beginning. The main impact of allowing this kind of mutual pogo climb is that the knights could have one of them skip through Cliffs to dash, like the glitched nmms category does. I opted not to try to implement this. (:
