Not to discredit Axe: but think about how many times he's been in that scenario versus how many times _any_ Fox has been in that scenario. On top of that SFat _is_ probably the best Fox Vs. Pikachu

No, Leffen is better against Pikachu. He's currently 3-0 against Axe this year while SFAT has been trading sets 5-5. The match up looks infinitely harder for Axe when Leffen isn't in a slump.

He probably would have, but in a high pressure situation, last stock last hit scenario, his mind was set on recovering and not thinking ahead. Moments where the pressure gets to you can even be seen among the top 7.

Anyone would have firefoxed back to ledge with their opponent that far out, especially if it's Axe, one of the most dangerous players offstage because of his incredible recovery. SFAT's fastfall>jump>shine to break Axe's combo was already a smart move, as was Axe's quick attack into damage into quick attack.

This all ignores the premise that Fox actually wants to land on stage and not risk losing. Too many mind games trying to stall, and there are way fewer just trying to recover.

I feel almost exactly opposite to most of the top comments here. I do not like these scenarios being stretched to extremes where only tas is able to approach the shown concepts. I like the idea of "well SFAT coulda did a later recovery" and then we kind of leave it at that, but to go to these lengths describing what could have done if both players were optimal TAS humans is like . . . . it's never gonna happen so why talk about these options. Everybody in the moment in late tournament games and sets like that is gonna be hitting that GD up B button and we know it

i don't believe so. My guess was that axe was closing the distance to go for an up air spike into a quick attack to grab ledge. without doing the shine fox gets spiked with a lot of hit stun and axe gets ledge.
