Game Description
===============
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is a 1994 platform game developed and published by Sega. It is part of the Sonic the Hedgehog series and follows Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992). After Doctor Robotnik's spaceship, the Death Egg, crash-lands on a mysterious floating island, Sonic and Tails attempt to retrieve the Chaos Emeralds to stop it from relaunching. Sonic 3 introduces Knuckles the Echidna, the island guardian, who lays traps for Sonic and Tails. Gameplay is similar to previous entries, with players traversing side-scrolling levels at high speeds while collecting rings and defeating enemies.

Several times throughout the special stages, Sonic was able to turn an array of blue spheres into rings without touching all the spheres on the perimeter (0:25, 1:02, 2:17, 4:40, 6:12, 9:40,) land and turn on white spheres without bouncing backward (6:05, 6:11, 8:22,) and touch red spheres without ending the stage (4:28, 8:47,) and that’s just what I saw within the first 10 minutes. I know tool-assisted runs can do all sorts of game-breaking feats that are impossible for humans, but how were you able to do all that?

Actually, that's one of the mechanics of the stage. If you make a loop of red spheres with there being blues inside then the whole square turns to rings

There's some type of bug with how the game reads the perimeter of spheres. I'm not sure of the specifics or how to abuse it but it's not the first time I've seen a TAS do that.

I know this is a late response, but basically Micheal Jackson's music team helped create some of the songs for Sonic 3 & Knuckles, including sounds from other songs (the glass break sound in carnival night or the 'go' line in launch base for example) and therefore Sega legally don't own the tracks. To avoid any copyright battles, the Jackson team's music was replaced by unrefined prototype music originally designed for the game in all future versions. This includes (as far as I'm aware): Knuckles' theme Mini Boss fights Super sonic's theme Carnival Night act 1 & 2 Ice Cap act 1 & 2 Launch Base act 1 & 2 Edit: and the credits song! (Thanks to @Ashfur of Thunderclan) If anyone has more info, or knows I'm wrong with something, do say and I'll edit this comment

It’s definitely PC because they sound like garbage, on the actual Sega chip, they sound amazing, even though I love the original Genesis/Michael Jackson produced songs, I got admit carnival night at two and launch base act one actually have some really catchy seems. But this PC version does not do it justice.

To zip is when u hold left or right into the wall, but u move to the opposite direction 16 pixels per frame, and I didn't use any zips at all, rather I used glitches and clipped through floors and walls to skip parts of the level.

@@THSGC humans can pull off the technique consistently, but not on spikes, it's called an object phase, where you hit an object with lots of speed and as soon as you bonk against it, you do 2 spindashes to phase through it. speedrunners use it in lava reef for example, but the spike phases are only reliably done by TASes afaik
