Hello Phil from across the pond in Detroit. I bought a nice used DP-24 last year and struggled with the learning curve of the routing and the external sends. I thought the 24 would be a breeze since I've used Tascam 4trks since the late 80s, and I used the DP-03. I never used a live mixer before in my life with sends and returns. Also, I always recorded everything wet, even delay and reverb. So this "send" business was foreign to me. I got my machine in January of last year and joined the Tascam fb groups and started watching your videos. It just wasn't sinking in to me. Just this year the light bulb went off and I'm seeing everything clear now. I'm rewatching your set of tutorials and everything is making total since. You've helped me tremendously with your tutorials. If ever I'm in doubt of what I'm doing, I go back to your videos. Thank you sir!!!

@Haze763 That's great news, thanks for sharing. Yes, it's a lot to take in if you're not familiar with some of the concepts, so well done for persevering. Learning how the send & return system works will open up a load of new possibilities. Thanks for stopping by, and good luck with your recordings. Best wishes from West Wales to Detroit :)

Hey Phil, thanks for the tutorials! When I play the demo song, there is no signal if pan is 0. There is a signal when I pan either right or left. Why?
@philtipping
@philtipping Жыл бұрын
@saxaphone6 Daniel Nielsen Thank you for the feedback Daniel. Problems like this are usually related to out-of-phase signals on the left & right sides of a stereo signal. When you pan 0, both left & right sides are at the same level so cancel out. When you pan either side, one of the signals dominates the other so there's less cancellation. Do you get the problem on both speakers and headphones? Speakers could be wired incorrectly. Headphones and/or headphone adapters can cause similar problems if they are faulty or if you are using a mono adapter instead of a stereo one. If these are ok, the problem may be a setting within the demo; maybe you've inadvertently changed a setting? If the demo is not write-protected, it may have been altered permanently, so the problem will remain even if you reload it. You could try downloading the original demo again. If you can't find it, I have a copy on my website: www.philizound.co.uk/freebies/dp24-32/dp24-32.html#demo If you're still stuck, I would go back to basics and run a signal directly from input to output to check left & right works ok. This is shown in the first few videos where the input signals are assigned to the stereo bus. It's a good simple test as it bypasses the sd-card and recording & playback sections completely. Once you have confidence that your speakers/headphones are working correctly, you can load the demo song and investigate further. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Hello Phil, hope all is well. This might seem dumb. I have seen video of using Noise Suppression to eliminate room noise. (In the examples the meter levels are usually seen to be "dancing" at about minus 30 db when there should ideally be "silence" between spoken words. As you know, Threshold/suppression is then used to stop the meters registering that noise. Question: I am recording to about minus 18 db. If I later boost the master to minus 3 db, (for example) do I risk introducing 12db of previously UNregistered noise that was below the "l/r" at the bottom of the meter? I.E. the meter seems to "bottom out" at the L/r at about -60 db,(?)m and it the disappearance of any signal that makes me assume the noise suppression is complete. ...but if it the meter was an inch longer at the bottom and went down to - 72db, would I STILL see dancing levels in the "silence" between - 60 db and - 72db, which is 12db of noise that will come back into earshot when I boost to - 3db? Feel free to embarrass me for the Greater Cause!
@philtipping
@philtipping Ай бұрын
@steveokane9478 Hi Steve, it's a good question so not dumb at all :) You're right in that whatever noise remains in the signal, even if you can't see it on the meters, will be boosted if you increase the gain later on. The 'threshold' control governs the level of signal below which the gain reduction takes place, and the 'suppression' control governs the amount of gain reduction, so it's the latter which governs the final noise floor level. I haven't checked how low this will go, but if it's an issue with you... and I would actually try it in practice first before presuming that it really is an issue... you never know, the additional noise may not be as bad as you thought :), try and adjust your gains *before* the noise suppressor so you have a decent reading on the meters and you won't need to increase this very much later on. There are various ways of adjusting the recording level depending on the source, e.g. the trim control, moving mic position, external mic pre-amp, adjusting output levels from synths etc. One trick to get more gain from less sensitive mics (assuming you can't get any closer to it) is to use the dynamic compressor effect without any compression. It has a gain control so you can use this as an extra boost. Unfortunately you can't easily daisy-chain the dynamic effects in series with each other so you can't add the compressor and noise suppressor in series. However, you *can* do it using the trick shown in videos 14A & 14B, or a simpler way may be to just use the noise suppressor in the Insert(Guitar) effect instead. This can be applied to the track either during recording, or afterwards via bounce or mixdown. Just as an afterthought, I would personally only use noise suppression as a last resort (or only use a minimal amount) due to the sometimes unnatural sound it imparts if not used correctly. If you can remove/reduce the background noise *before* the signal reaches the machine, you'll get much better results. Btw, some great music on your channel :) Nice clear lyrics and great playing.

The primary purpose of the guitar insert fx is to record a DI'd guitar with amp modelling/fx etc. It is not really designed for use in mix down as a stand alone insert effect. However Tascam designed it so it can be used 'live' on one track during playback/mixdown if needs be... however if you need it on more you can bounce. Of course this means commitment as once its bounced you can't tweak it without doing a new bounce.... straightforward really and good for creative decision making to have 'soft' limitations like these

Hi Phil, many thanks for the very informative videos. They're much appreciated as you might have guessed from the many thank you comments.. :) I will be getting my hands on one of these units later this week and your videos make me very much look forward to playing around with it (and draw on the block diagram, lol!) On the contrary from one of your earlier posts how watching them all in one sitting would make you fall asleep, I've done so today and am still awake, so no worries :) Regarding the 'block' of guitar effects, do I understand correctly that they can be applied to just one track at a time? And If so, have you maybe thought of any workarounds for when recording a piece with various guitar tracks, that require different effects (or the same effect for that matter)? I can image something like rerouting an already recorded part to a different input and 'hard record' the effects there, so that the 'block' will be free again, but that does not make for a very efficient workflow.. Looking forward to your thoughts on this.

Thanks for the support +Wwwouter88. Well you must have a better constitution than me for absorbing info without saturating - I thought my voice droning on for long periods would be too much for some ;) You're correct re. the guitar effect block, and there are work-rounds, although none are as good as having more effects! It is possible to connect outputs to inputs and use the input dynamic effects or re-use the guitar effect, but you need to be careful to avoid feedback loops. Another way is to use the built-in 'bounce' feature, which I'll be covering later. This lets you playback any combination of tracks through their individual EQ's and/or the guitar effect block, and record the result onto a spare track. You're effectively 'mixing down' but onto a spare track instead of to the special mix/master file. The new track can then be treated just like any other track. It is more long-winded as you say, but it's a loss-less process so it just costs you time. That's one major advantage over tape-based systems where each 'pass' introduced more tape hiss.

@@philtipping it looks as though once you record the effect on the track (that is the effect comes before the recording process not after/ for monitoring only) then it is printed and you don't need the effect block any more for that track so it can be used elsewhere. Is this the case or am i not understanding it? I use Boss DAW's and they seem much simpler. You can use any effects on any track, printed or otherwise. You can then use general effects on any track and on top of that, mastering. I am very interested in the Tascam range but only if they are useable in the real world. If Tascam doesn't work as i have said above then it is much too limiting. In this day and age there should be no problem with computer processing power. Your thoughts and experience on this would be very helpfull. Have you used Boss products before? Thanks.
@philtipping
@philtipping 6 жыл бұрын
@@titmusspaultpaul5 yes the track insert effect can only be used on one track at any one time, so once you've finished with it on one track, you can then use it on another. This means it *is* tedious to apply it to multiple tracks as each one requires a bounce pass in real-time, so depends how much patience you have :) The send effect *can* be used on multiple tracks simultaneously, but all you can adjust is the *amount* for each track; the effect itself can only be one type at any one time (Reverb, Chorus or Delay). There's a definitive summary of all the effects here: www.tascamforums.com/threads/dp24-32-fx-definitive-summary-of-effects.4162/ I've not used Boss products before so am unable to compare. I personally mainly use the Tascam machine for recording on location, and transfer the digital wave files back to my home system for processing. The new Model 24 would probably be better suited for this, but it wasn't available at the time. It's also a lot more expensive so I may still have chosen the DP model :)

@@philtipping thanks for the info. You should try some Boss products, they are truly outstanding and from your videos, I would say a lot easier to use and much less tedious. I grew up recording on a Tascam 4 track tape recorder so I really do love Tascam but Boss have great effects and is easy to use. If you can pick up a Boss BR 1600 I think you will be amazed and won't go back to Tascam. You can only get them second hand but they are only about $300. They have effects you can use on every track at the same time, mastering effects, a drum machine, a bass simulator that changes guitsr into bass, pitch correction and voice harmony.... and it's all exceptional quality.... cheers.

At 3:07 - there can only be one effect type at one time. This limitation plus the questionable quality of on board effects leaves me with using an external effects processor. One of those I have in possession is the Alesis Quadraverb where you may have 4 effects simultaneously with the addition of having the ability to modify the effect parameters in detail. With keyboards, I usually use their on board effects pre-production - which may not be the ideal way to record.
@philtipping
@philtipping 5 жыл бұрын
@Bobcatt22 yes a few people have gone this route, although with patience and repeated bounces, you can get round the concurrency limitations and apply different guitar and/or send effects to multiple tracks. You'd have to do something similar if you had one really high-quality (i.e. expensive!) external effect; it's just a case of adjusting your workflow depending on the gear/tools at your disposal. Another option is to feed the send outputs back to spare inputs and utilise the dynamic effects - an understanding of the signal flow helps to avoid feedback.
@sjgeltman
@sjgeltman 5 жыл бұрын
Am I understanding correctly that, without external gear (or patience and repeated bounces), the Tascam 24 permits just one guitar effect on one track per song? Wrestled with this for hours... I have two electric-guitar tracks, on Track 3 and 4, both recorded through Input H. I'd like to send Effect -> Chorus to both. I click on Select for Track 3, Effect button, and turn on Chorus. It works. I keep the Effect button on, and select Track 4. The Chorus goes away from Track 3, and comes on Track 4. On the Mixer screen, Insert Effect can only be lit up for one track, not both. I haven’t seen this circumstance in your tremendously helpful videos. Apologies for the "What? You don't even know that?!"-ness of the question... Many thanks, Phil.
@philtipping
@philtipping 5 жыл бұрын
@@sjgeltman that's right, the guitar effect block (which is 4 effects in series) can only be inserted into one track at any one time... *but* the guitar effect isn't the only effect on the machine. The send effect (video 5) can be used on any combination of tracks, and this has a chorus type, so you can use this for your electric guitar tracks. You route through the send effect in a different way to the guitar effect. The 'Insert Effect' box shown in the mixer screen is for the guitar effect and dynamic effects, not the send effect. I know it's confusing, but all I can suggest is to go through the videos again, and/or buy my step-by-step guide, and then if all else fails I'd be happy to help you on a one-to-one basis via email - address is at the bottom of the page on my www.philizound.co.uk website.... and you don't need to apologise for any questions - we all have to start somewhere and if you're new to multi-tracking and/or this machine, it can be a minefield :)

@Alfredo Hernández I don't know about the other machines, sorry, although you should be able to download their manuals and check the specs. I'm not sure if there are any other free-standing machines like this being made, so you may have to put up with the limitations or use a computer-based solution. At least with the Tascam unit, it tells you if it cannot handle the effect. The limitations are fully documented so there should be no surprises - it doesn't crash if you try to add too many :) ... and because the machine is so flexible, there are usually work-rounds for the limitations, such as bouncing etc. Thanks for stopping by, and hope you manage to find a machine suitable for you; let me know if you find anything.

Funny you should ask, Robin. I was just about to check this as I was literally just adding compression to several vocal recordings made on location with the dp32. I was using the 'old-school' way of running each track in real-time through an external compressor, which takes ages, so was thinking it would be a lot quicker in future if I used the compressor during the recording - which is normally how I record vocals back at base. So I don't have an answer. Suggestions anyone?

Hi I don’t know if you’ve covered this but if you have I’ve misunderstood, i know you can have 1 dynamic effect on a track and the next track can be a different dynamic effect but what about send effects, could you have a reverb on 1 track and say a delay on another track? Any help would be appreciated
@philtipping
@philtipping Жыл бұрын
@Craig Hughes -shug There can only be one send effect active at any one time; it's either a reverb or a chorus or a delay... but you can send any combination of tracks (and/or inputs) into that send effect, each with their own level control so the effect can be more or less for each track/input. The send effect output is a mixed signal containing all those tracks/inputs along with the effect. So the answer to your question appears to be no... but there's nothing to stop you using the guitar effect at the same time. This also contains a delay, so you could use the reverb from the send effect for one track and the delay from the guitar effect for another. Is it possible to record a guitar with distortion, then add chorus over the distortion over (for example) the chorus parts to give it some boost? I feel like you mentioned something like this by bouncing the track during mixdown? However I am not sure if I understood the terminology correctly. I actually have a DP24SD in the post arriving Tuesday and am eager to have everything to hand. The issue is that I don't have a guitar amp with an output nor any effects pedals to use in realtime. However I wouldn't bother buying any if it's possible to add these effects within the dp24 whether that be during or after I have recorded the track. Your videos are great, and I feel like I will be watching them for years to come whilst figuring out how to get the sounds I need out of this machine!
@philtipping
@philtipping 5 жыл бұрын
@oldschoolwaverider thanks for the feedback. Well you can certainly add a selection of 'guitar-type' effects either during the recording or afterwards via loop-back recording, bouncing or mixdown, although I'm not sure if there is a specific 'distortion' effect type - maybe you do the same as with a real guitar amp and just overdrive it? Chorus is available both within the guitar effect block and the send effect, so again you add this before or after. Re. adding "chorus over the distortion", when you add an effect during recording, the original sound plus the effect is recorded onto the designated track. When you add an effect afterwards, the original sound plus the effect goes to a *separate* track, so the original track is never overwritten as such. This means you can choose to record the effect itself without the original dry signal, and you'll end up with 2 tracks, one dry, one wet, allowing you to mix these however you want later. You don't have to do it this way of course, but it's just to give you an idea of the flexibility of the machine once you grasp the signal flow. Here's a complete summary of all the effects www.tascamforums.com/threads/dp24-32-fx-definitive-summary-of-effects.4162/ The step-by-step guide contains a lot of useful info as well as numerous 'how to...' steps for specific tasks, so this may be useful if you're just starting out. Details and a list of contents is here www.philizound.co.uk/freebies/dp24-32/dp24-32.html Good luck for tomorrow - I'm sure you'll be impressed with the build quality when you unbox it :)

Hey Phil, I’ve viewed all your videos, and they’ve been incredibly helpful. I finally have a grasp of what the tascam has to offer, and have even begun mixing and mastering using it. Despite all that, I have one question I can’t seem to find an answer to. I know I can only have 1 “guitar effect” running on one track at a time. I figured in theory, I should be able to bounce that track with the effect, then have that track printed with the effect. But I cannot get this to work. I’ve tried using both “record” and “play” settings in the effect, tried putting the effect on the track to be printed and the origin track, and all combinations of that with regards of “record” and “play.” Is there a way to save a track with a printed internal guitar effect? Or am I really only able to essentially put an effect on a single track?
@philtipping
@philtipping 3 жыл бұрын
@Reece Caldwell Hi Reece, thank you for the kind words. Yes, you should certainly be able to add the guitar effect to tracks one at time using bounce, so I guess there's something you're not doing correctly. Are you sure you're setting up the bounce controls ok? Video #9 later in the series describes the process. You can use the guitar effect either in the play position for the source track, or in the record position for the target track. Don't get these confused :) I would go through the steps methodically to see where the problem is. First forget bounce and prove your guitar effect is working ok. Let's assume you want the effect in the playback path for the *source* track, so set the effect to 'play' mode and then insert it into that track - the track number should appear at the top-right of the effect screen. I'm assuming you are using a mono track for this. Press Play on the machine, turn up the fader for this track and confirm you can hear the effect through the monitors. Make sure it's the guitar effect you are hearing and not the send effect (i.e. turn down the master send 1 level). If this works, you can then go to bounce mode. When in bounce mode, select the same source track with its select button (so it lights up green) and set a spare target track with its rec button (so it lights up red). Again, just use a mono target track to keep things simple. Turn up the track fader for the source track and the main stereo fader, then press Record to do the bounce. You should see the meter bar moving for the destination track. If not, the bounce isn't set up correctly. I'm just writing the above from memory so may have missed a step or two - but the video will show exactly how to do it. When finished, turn the source fader down, and the target fader up. Rewind and press Play. The target track should now have the source plus guitar effect printed onto it. If you have problems, get back to me, preferably using email as it's better for me than KZbin comments. My email address is at the bottom of the page on my philizound.co.uk website. Hope this helps.

I don't cover how to adjust individual settings to get a particular sound, e.g. how to actually *use* a compressor or a noise suppressor etc., as these are standard operational topics which are not specific to this machine. Can you give more details about your problem? You say you can't figure out routing using dynamic effects, so have you worked through the videos up to Tutorial 4? If you have a lot of questions, it's easier for me if you use my email address instead of KZbin comments - the address is at the bottom of the page on my website www.philizound.co.uk

Hi Phil. I'm wanting to record vocals with reverb and delay. I can get a good delay sound with the send effects, however when i try and use the guitar effects effects delay, I get a distorted echo. I also noticed I get a very distorted sound when using the chorus in the guitar effects. Any suggestions? Thanks, Grant , happy holidays
@philtipping
@philtipping 5 жыл бұрын
@grantcarlsonguitars distortion is either a level which is set too high or maybe another effect is switched on by mistake. Levels can be increased by effects and/or EQ. The L/R meter bars may help with checking levels. If you work through the signal path in a methodical way, you should be able to pinpoint the problem. Make sure you are only listening to one track, turn off all other effects and EQ to isolate the guitar effect. Make sure all the other effects *within* the guitar effect block are off, so you just have the chorus switched on. Then you can adjust the level setting within the chorus effect to see if that is causing the distortion. There is an additional level control in the mixer called digital trim which may help if the signal is too high when it reaches this point. Note it's very easy to adjust the settings for the wrong track so always make sure the mixer screen shows the correct track number at the top right before adjusting things. To avoid messing up other settings in your current song, you could create a new song first, and do all your testing on that. If you use a 'reset' template described in tutorial 2, you'll know all effects and EQ will be turned off, so there's no need to check those. Hope this helps Grant. Happy holidays to you too.

@anthony91504 depends what you mean by 'vocal correction'. You have a choice of many different effects & eq, but they are in specific signal pathways so what you can use at any one time depends on which path you are using. There's an FX summary on my website here www.philizound.co.uk/freebies/dp24-32/dp24-32.html#fx which lists which effects/eq are in which path. The easiest things to add during bouncing are eq, the insert(guitar) effect, and the send effect. It is also possible to add an insert(dynamics) effect but it needs a bit more setting up - video #14A shows how to do this, but you need to be confident about using the send/return system. Btw - you posted your question twice so have removed the other one to avoid confusion.

Not sure if this is relevant, but can you arm 2 or more tracks at a time, record a part.....that is recorded to all selected armed tracks, and THEN...apply a different effect to each track of the same guitar, and that would give you more options for number of effects you can use at the same time. 🤓🤔🎸
@philtipping
@philtipping 5 жыл бұрын
@Owen Fletcher you can assign the same input to multiple tracks and arm/record them in parallel. Another way is to just record to one track and use the Track Edit 'clone track' function to instantly copy the track to as many other tracks as you want. The clone method allows you make more than 8 copies. I'm not sure if this is what you are asking as the guitar effect can only be inserted into *one* track at any one time, so matter how you duplicate the tracks. You can certainly apply different effects, but not at the same time... you'd have to bounce each track through the effect block and record the result onto a spare track. It's all possible, but needs time & patience :)

Hello, tell me please, to earn effects need to buy an external effects processor?
@philtipping
@philtipping 4 жыл бұрын
@Николай Андреев it depends what effects you want, and how you want simultaneously. For example, there is only one guitar effect block, but you can do multiple bounces and use the effect in many different ways and on different tracks for each bounce. Or you can use the send effect at the same time as the guitar effect, either on the same track, or different tracks. Another possibility is using the dynamic effects, either when you are recording, so you can have different effects on each of the 8 inputs, or by using a loop-back cable to apply dynamic effects to existing recordings as shown in videos #14A and #14B. If you buy an external processor, you'll still only be able to use it for adding one effect at any one time, although some units can apply different effects to the left & right signals simultaneously, so you could use send-1 and send-2 to get an additional 2 concurrent effects. Hope this helps. Good luck, and thanks for stopping by.

My machine is giving off a bizzing sound ... How can I ground loop
@philtipping
@philtipping 5 жыл бұрын
@king 9 ether need more details. Can you isolate where the buzzing is coming from? Is it just on headphones or does it appear on monitor speakers? Is it on recordings? The machine itself is not earthed, so if it's a power-related 50/60Hz buzz you could try earthing it, e.g. by plugging in a jack plug which is connected to an earthed device.

@@philtipping headphones and speakers .. I even unplug the speakers and headphones and recorded with tascam along and still humming in my recordings .. could this be a ground looping issue ?
@philtipping
@philtipping 5 жыл бұрын
@king 9 ether depends what you've got connected. As mentioned, the machine itself is not earthed. If it's the same as mine, the PSU adapter has a plastic earth pin so the whole machine is floating... in which case there is no 'loop'. But if you've got several other devices plugged in and some of those are earthed, maybe they are the cause... but I would go back to basics and check things one by one. Use a single input, with nothing else connected apart from headphones. Assign the input to the stereo bus (and nowhere else), then turn up the stereo fader and monitor knob so you can hear the source direct in your headphones. That way, you can test different things without messing around trying to record and playback. If you can hear the hum in your headphones, try earthing the machine as mentioned before. If there's no hum, connect your speakers and test again. Just be methodical and you'll find the culprit. Whatever you do, don't go removing earth connections from mains/live powered equipment - it's common folklore but is a dangerous practice. As a last resort, try a D.I. box to isolate the earth loop (if there is one). Good luck.

So the only guitar effect, no matter what it is, it's a clean guitar sound?
@philtipping
@philtipping 2 жыл бұрын
@Gregory Davidson not sure what you're asking. There is only one 'guitar effect', but it's a chain (or 'block') of 4 different effects in series. You can enable or disable any combination of the 4 and each one has its own settings screen, so you have a lot of control over the sound. Some of the effects are more relevant to a guitar, such as the amp simulation, but they can all be used on other instruments if you like - there are no rules. If you disable all 4 effects, the effect block has no impact on the sound, as you would expect - the signal effectively passes unchanged straight through the block... but there is a catch as explained in the video in that the number of dynamic effects will remain limited to 2 (instead of 8) until you remove the *whole* block from the insert path.

@philtipping
@philtipping 2 жыл бұрын
@Gregory Davidson no worries, it can be quite daunting at first, but it will all make sense eventually :) The effects you mention are in the Guitar effect block (other effects are in the Send effect and Dynamic effect sections). There are several ways of configuring the guitar effect depending on what you are trying to achieve. For example, to hear the effect applied to an existing track recording, you need to insert the guitar effect into that track's playback path. Then you enable/disable the required combination of those 4 sub-effects within the block, and twiddle the settings to hear the result. The videos show how to insert the effect and how to enable/disable the sub-effects, but if you want exact step-by-step instructions without getting too bogged down with the details, these are all in the Step-by-Step guide; full details here www.philizound.co.uk/freebies/dp24-32/dp24-32.html

@Marty Oshinsky when you say 'unable to hear', do you mean during monitoring or playback? @@Detownrebel1 The send effect (e.g. reverb) can be added to live input signals and/or signals coming from the track playback paths, but this effect will not be recorded onto tracks in normal multi-track mode as it joins the stereo bus *after* the signal comes out of the sd-card. This is why it's easy to hear reverb when you are monitoring or during a recording, but the effect is not actually recorded. Normally, if you want to record the reverb effect, you need to do a mixdown or a bounce. There *are* ways to do this in multi-track mode, but it involves connecting external cables from outputs to inputs, so runs the risk of creating a feedback loop. It's not recommended unless you really understand the signal flow through the machine.

Hey how to make the condenser mic the song crisp and stereo perfect when you record . I recorded my voice and it sounds like I'm underwater and it sounds low how can you adjust the mic so it can sound very good and professional
@philtipping
@philtipping 6 жыл бұрын
+Dj Rude Boy well you're doing the right thing by using a condenser mic - this should give you a really crisp & clear sound. If your mic needs phantom power, make sure this is switched on. There are a lot of factors which affect how it sounds. If you are too close to the mic, it can sound very bassy so either move further away or use EQ to reduce the bass. Some mics have a built-in switch to do this; if not, use the EQ on the recorder. If you're too far from the mic, you'll start to pick up reflected sound from the room , so if your room is not very good acoustically speaking, you may have to stay close to the mic. You may also need a pop-shield, but this is just to protect the mic and reduce pops from your mouth - it won't make it any crisper. Other things to check are the input & recording levels. The early videos show how to check the 2 types of overload lights and which controls affect them, so make sure you are recording at a good level without either of these flashing. Lots of other techniques can be found on the internet, e.g. check out Sound On Sound magazines technical articles - I just searched for "sound on sound recording vocals" and came up with this as one of many examples... www.soundonsound.com/techniques/vocal-recording-production-masterclass Good luck.
