I have watched all your videos several times. I bought the model 12 at the same time i purchased an mpc, jupiter xm, and a much of other stuff so I never really had a chance to get into it. Now I plan to use this with the MPC to mix recordings or while playing. Can't wait

This was extremely enlightening. Mastering on the 12 has been hard to figure out on my own.

Thanks for another great tutorial and for putting the time in to make all these videos. I've watched quite a few of your videos and have learned a number of new things. I've owned my Tascam Model 12 for about 3 years now and love recording outside the box. I also agree with you that it would be great if Tascam could include some type of software limiter/compressor on a future update. With that said, I think when it comes to mixing and mastering, it's tough to compete against what you can do on a computer (DAW) these days. Especially, with all the plug-ins available. As far as my own workflow, I mostly do all my recording on my Tascam and lately started mixing on it as well. I also sometimes do a hybrid thing between the Tascam, my DAW and some outboard gear I own. However, when it comes to mastering, I always use my DAW, but I think your tutorial provides a good work around for those who don't own or want to use a DAW for mastering.

Hello Vatche, I have a question regarding extracting a portion of audio from a live performance that was recorded in its entirety with no breaks, that is on my Model 12. The live performance is on my SD card, and the length is about an hour. It is about 15 songs. How can I “pick out” certain songs without having to “fast forward” to a particular section to hear that song. I have no idea how to do this with the Model 12. I want to create an album and I want to go to each song individually. Just like a regular CD. Thank you.

I guess if re-mixing and listening on the M12, best way is by placing markers at the start of each song, then you can FF or REW to each song.

good video! can you show what the setup is like in the mixer and in the studio one routing, so that multi-channel recording can be done as well as returning to the mixer by channel! thank you

Hello. I have another question. I hope you don't mind. I have the 12 set up as an audio interface, so when I play KZbin, the audio is directed to PC CH1 and CH2. This configuration goes through an OWC-powered data hub. The song is 48/16. When I do this with anything lower, i.e. 44/24, it is suggested for MPCs. The 12 is connected to the OWC data hub, and audio plays through the 12's ch1 and ch2 Then, I try to go dawless with the MPC Live 2, which essentially acts as my computer. A separate powered hub connects MIDI controllers to the MPC USB B. When this happens, I lose Sound from ch1 and ch2. I now get the F error for the song. I can see the 12 as the sound device on the model 12, but no USB audio. Does KZbin have a set rate for audio e.g. 48/24 Can I keep the Live as the "computer" and have the Mac audio play through CH1 and Ch2 without Fs error? Very complicated (for me). Thank you. John

Turning up the main fader to increase studio monitor volume causes internal distortion. How do you turn up the volume on your studio monitors without turning up the main faders. Thanks
@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 4 ай бұрын
My studio monitors have own volume set at the correct level, so when my meters on the M12 peaks 0db, it’s about 80db SPL. M12 has main bus volume set in the settings that allows you to reduce output levels. Check it out, just in case.

Really nice job on these tutorials! The tascam 12 has been such a joy to work with and has really changed my workflow. i have a related mastering/mixdown question: I'm still a bit puzzled about the stereo mix export feature. When i execute this is doesn't read panning moves that i do and doesn't seem to pickup the way i left the faders. I gather that 'recording' my mix to 11/12 is the best way to do a mix, but what exactly is the stereo mix export capturing and leaving out? Thanks in advance, and again great work on this material!
@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 Жыл бұрын
Stereo mix export simply joins the two files from tracks 11 & 12 into one stere file. Nothing else. So you need to do a mixdown first with all your fader and panning as well as FX first. I have a 4 part series on the subject

@@RecordingStudio9 i assume the mixdown also captures all compression and eq settings of the recorded tracks? What is name of the 4 part series you mentioned? Thanks so much for these videos!

I'm running the Model 24, but I am not doing DAW. I do my sequencing on my Roland FA06 work station. If anyone isn't sure about the Tascam mixers, I like them better than the Mackie 22 channel.

What I've never understood is spotify allows up to -2db and -14lufs before they apply their own limiting. So how can you be at -.3 db and only -18 lufs. I'm still trying to understand mastering in general.
@RecordingStudio9
@RecordingStudio9 Жыл бұрын
This video might help you better understand the differences. Even though the signal had a peak of -0.3db, the average RMS is at -20db. We bring the RMS value closer to -12db by way of compression and limiting. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZiZf3eOh56kf9E
