As a prior US soldier and contractor, I love the Tavor. The ability to pack an M16 barrel in something shorter or same length as the M4 is pretty great. Like any weapon, there is a learning curve, especially coming from M4/AK platforms. No C Clamp sent me for a loop, as did reloads. However, after practicing for a whole I found the Tavor to be just as easy to handle. The weight distribution for me is a real plus. Having your mass located in the rear does make the weapon easier to rotate up and easier to hold in position. It does take some getting used to, but once again that goes for any new weapon you pick up. Overall, very nice rifle.

Not without isues. Remember guys safelock broke and hes like "look at this plastic, what is that?!" . Also, i was a sharpshooter(brigade champion) . M4, green iron ammo, x4 aim ... when i got practice with "short tavor", standart 300 meter , its where much worser in terms of acuracy . Maybe cuz its has shorter barell, maybe my lack of exp with Tavor...

i was a foreign soldier( lone soldier) in the idf, was issued a first gen tar21 for preamtive training (2 weeks) before switching to the second gen x95 for about a year during training then the 3rd gen x95 for another 2 years. amazing gun to shoot, within weeks i was able to get a zeroing at 25 meter with a grouping of a cm (and that was the first rifle i shot!) incredibly easy to learn this weapon and great for me cause im a lefty.

I own the civilian version of the X95. As a Marine in the’70s I shot the M16. At the time I absolutely loved the m16. I also like the ar platform. But I have to say that the Tavor just feels ergonomically perfect for me. The weapon just seems to hit your shoulder on target, and falls back on target with no effort at all. And at 26”, it’s the first weapon I would grab for if (May God forbid) I needed to protect my loved ones or myself. I read an interesting quote but can’t remember who said it, it something like this “use your pistol to fight your way to your rifle”. Better yet just keep your weapon of choice close by.

The TAR-21 (aka SAR) was the original Tavor and was adopted by the IDF in 2003 although primarily for Special Forces. The latest version is the Tavor X95 (aka MTAR-21) and has been in use since 2009 again initially with Special Forces but is now the standard issue for all infantry units and has been since 2012.

They dropped the TAR-21 in favor of the X95 (MTAR-21) starting about a decade ago. There's still quite a few units that still use M4s, especially special forces units, but they mostly just use the MTAR now.

IWI Tavor TAR-21 is a standard issue rifle for the Para-SF of Indian Armed Forces. There must be a good reason if a special forces unit like this rifle, as they operate in almost every possible terrain and believe me we have almost all the possible terrains in India.

I have a Tavor SAR with Meprolight M21 red dot and FAB Defense bipod, the trigger is rubbish but taking it to gun range is super cool, like driving a Ferrari into a domestic car meet even though the rifle wasn’t that Gucci. You’ll get lots of attention. People at the range are always like: Wow, what is it? Damn, that thing looks like Alien’s gun!! Can I take a picture with that? Is it a Tavor?? I’ve never seen 1 in person.

The benefit with bullpup is you can keep a decent barrel length. I used the steyer Aug for years and loved it. The gas debris can be mitigated with the right use of powder. I never had a problem with it.

As someone who qualified with the M16 platform, owns several AR15s and also owns a Tavor, I will tell you that there are numerous advantages to the shorter rifle. It makes CQB, stacking up on rooms in tight corridors multiple times easier. Doing so with a full length M16A4 is a major PITA. The Tavor allows speedy mag changes, unlike other bullpups. Although I don't know why the OP stated that the bolt hold open feature on the Tavor is new, as all M4s have that ability. The Tavor's replacement of the M4 by Israel is not new. It's been in service for over 10 years now. All in all, the Tavor is a rugged, bombproof dependable rifle that balances well, is fantastic for CQB or MOUT operations. The Tavor is heavier though. For longer range shooting, over 500 meters, I prefer the M4 pattern of rifle, although it's more than possible to reach out to those distances with the Tavor. The ergonomics of shooting from the prone are just "different" with the Tavor and take some getting used to. It's now being used by several nations throughout the world.

The rear weight is only uncomfortable until you get used to it. If you're accustomed to the relatively nose-heavy weight distribution of an M16 or M4, you're going to smack yourself in the jaw a few times while getting a sight picture, because the weight is the opposite of where you're expecting it to be. But once you re-learn with the new rifle, it's an improvement.

I fired the L1A1 for 10 years before I swapped to the L85A1 & subsequently the A2 which I used for another 11 years. I liked the balance of the L1A1, it felt lighter than it actually was. The L85A1 felt rather chunky and a little awkward, but I got used to it. I shot better with the L85A2.

There are only two inherent drawbacks for bullpups: switching shoulders and trigger. There are a lot more benefits. For example, having the working bits closer to body makes everything more comfortable, effecient and faster P.s. forgot to mention disadvantage in long distance shooting due to weight balance being closer to body: yes, same thing which gives advantage at cqc gives disadvantage at long ranges...

I prefer the G3A3 7.62mm for better damaged and ranges than TAR-21 and I guess M-16 is better than TAR-21 is longer ranges and more damage than TAR-21 at close range combat , I also prefer M-82A1 50CAL with a 10×scope sniper rifle lot better damaged and longer ranges than anything close range combat , yes it is quite heavy to shoot around close range combat .

I have been rocking the SAR-21 since spring of 2013. I was one of the earliest members of the Tavor Owners' Group and a lot of folks get that rifle and have to relearn their shooting techniques. The less experienced shooter has less to unlearn that the more experienced shooter.

@@dbmail545 Case in point: I joined the US Army in 1970; qualified with the M-16A1, then never shot an AR -style rifle again until I qualified with an M4 for a deployment in 2006. For me, who is a left-hander with no particular experience with the AR-style rifle, the advantages of the bullpup rifle outweigh the popularity of the US infantryman's favorite longarm.

@@spartanx9293 the tavor is not perfect, and when I served, I had an early version of it that had some issues. But the newer versions are really incredible, I must say. And I've used the M-16 and AK-47, which I'm not belittling, they're also very good and reliable, but the tavor is really awsome. Reliability, comfort, (especially while wearing body armour due to it's short stock) simplicity to strip down, range, accuracy, etc. Are all serious pluses. At least in my opinion.

Look at the InrangeTV mud test of the X95. Two transfer bars to gum up instead of just the one on the SAR-21. But I am still a fan of the X95 because SAR's got cheap(er) after the new gun got released. Sold my hard-run SAR for nearly what I paid for a like new, low mileage one.

We dropped the Steyr in favour of the LMT CQB16 which we called the MARS-L here in NZ, whilst the Aussies stuck with the configuration on their new Steyr. I spent a fair bit of time shooting both and though I liked the MARS-L for the ACOG coming as standard on it (man LMT does mean package deals), I still preferred the Steyr in virtually every other case because of the balanced bullpup configuration. It was easy to control, balanced over the master hand so it made monkey crawling in the assault, and moving on uneven ground easy and somewhat safer with the alice pack on - I could easily move bushes and tree branches out of the way slowly and in a controlled way to avoid snapping back and signposting whilst still keeping the weapon firm in my master hand, with the barrel following my facing in close country situations. Yeah the reload ergos are a bit funky on a bullpup at first, but you get used to it and find our your own little optimisations with time and use. We were never gucci enough where the second-to-second speed of a reload was really a factor in anything - only how full the mag was before shooting, and even then, there should at least be two of you alternating reloads intuitively to keep fire up after the first blat 99% of the time. I reckon that kind of thinking is what informs the decision to go for bullpups when the brass make these acquisition decisions - every other upside (short length, full barrel, good in LAV's and other vehicles etc.) overall outweighs some relatively minor negatives on the firing and reload ergonomics as I experienced them, and that's probably a big factor in why the Israelis went that way. That being said, the old Steyrs we had can get fucked with those obnoxious and near continuous stoppages, though I tend to think those ancient mags and maybe the brand of ammo we had were the main issue there.

"Disposable magazines" are a plague that comes back to affect weapons manufacturing every few years or decades. As soon as you throw the word disposable into something it automatically throws out any seriousness about it being a necessity for function. This leads to new designs for these disposables always trying to convince governments that they have made a magazine that is so cheap you don't have to worry about the marines chewing on them. Then even if it was actually a good idea in practice, it gets sold to the lowest bidder because government and they develop it EVEN cheaper because government. Suddenly you have an outstanding design that guess what, fails to feed when you need it. I can think of examples of this happening to weapons from the Lee Enfield to the M14 to the M16. Its just a vicious cycle and the easiest victim is the magazine.

I think the Tavor is in many aspects a great rifle for its purpose. In my unit, we used the SIG 550, which was almost 40 inches long. For a unit that was supposed to infiltrate enemy territory and take out facilities, I always felt it was a horrible choice. We could not manoeuvre with this thing, which felt like holding a broomstick in a staircase.

The M1 Garand was cool, until you have to reload it and deal with the clip mechanism. The M14 was cool, because it had an easy reload mechanism/clips. The M16 was awesome until it jammed. I have only fired the G3A3, HK11 and the FN FALO, while serving as a conscript in the Greek Army. The training was not intensive, so I cannot say that I am a good shooter. However, I once held the Tavor in my hand during a military exposition (is that the right expression?). Well, let me tell you guys. Bullpup feels like a natural part of the body. While conventional rifles are like a broomstick with a backet full of water attached to the front. The only reason I can think of why many people prefer conventional rifles, is because they fired thousands of rounds with them so naturally something different will feel awkward. To me they are like the people who have learned to hold a pen the wrong way from childhood, but still can write.

1:11 - You're pretty behind on the development of this rifle. For one, the new Tavor series has the magazine release by the trigger, just like an AR. Apparently, they thought that configuration was superior. This was because that unlike other bullpup engineers, the IWI guys took the time to get it right, rather than rush an inferior mechanism into manufacture. By the time the TAR/SAR-21s had hit the American marketplace-- way back in 2013 (I remember, because I waited months to get one!)-- Israel had already phased them out, and was issuing the new generation. It's also _assembled_ in Israel. All the parts are made in America. 10:51 - The gas release issue you're referring to has long ago been fixed. Even on the old models, this was easily solved by after market parts-- a metal cover, swapped for the original plastic one. Unsurprisingly, you didn't even mention the drop-in trigger pack, or the one-step field stripping. Maybe you guys should actually handle one of these before you make a video about it. The whole idea is to have an AR configuration, with AK dependability, in a bullpup. Not only did they pull it off, but they're constantly improving. Oh, and _guns_ are on tank turrets and battleships. That there is a _rifle..._ a carbine, a weapon, a firearm, a f---in' _boomstick!_

"all variants hold open on an empty magazine" For those who don't know: Look on the left side of the rifle, halfway along the cheekpiece. You'll see a square plastic knob. That is the bolt release catch. If the bolt doesn't hold open on an empty mag, why is the release catch there? The magazine catch reference - On the 21, it looks like you grab the mag, then use your forefinger to squeeze the catch, releasing the mag. On the L85 it is the exact same movement except you use your thumb. I don't get it - Almost every single video I watch depicting the L85 is patent make-believe. I guess the reason is that, in general, Britsh people with experience on the L85 don't have access to other firearms and so tend not to make youtube videos about them, whilst US citizens can't acquire L85 platforms to actually shoot and fairly review.

I love my Tavor 7. Chambered in 7.62x51, it's designed to hit hard in urban combat. It's a hefty weight when left slung across the shoulder, but holding it it's perfectly balanced over the grip when loaded. Recoil is far lighter than you might think, honestly not much more than that of an M4, and I've never had an issue with gas or soot after an extended period of shooting.

That matches my experience with the Tavor 7. The balance point is at the grip - which is something every gun should have and you find you expect once you have experienced it. I only really notice the weight when slung - otherwise the balance has it feeling light and quick to move. Suppressed. The 7 is clearly designed to operate suppressed and excels at it. My 7 appeared to become more accurate when I applied the suppressor to the point where I have been trying to come up with theories that would explain it. (The running theory is that setting the gas system to suppressed balances something when you fire that lets you land even cheap M80 ball ammo manufactured4 0 years ago right on top of each other) Manticore Arms makes a foregrip that covers most of the barrel so that the suppressor just flows from the rest of the gun like a continuous, integrated whole instead of a can on the end of an otherwise ordinary rifle. I don't personally know of any 308 that is as pleasant to shoot as a Tavor 7. It really is comparable to a 223.

Funny you should mention that, I think 890 were the first brigade to test the old Tar-21 and they decided to pass. Then Givaa'ti Tzabar took their "haktzaa" and became the first to actually deploy it around 2002-2003 if I remember correctly. The 21 was a good gun but wasn't as reliable back then, they had failure to eject issues when the gun heated up a bit. I hear this isn't an issue with newer units.

I served with the 82nd airborne as an infantry paratrooper, my M4 is like another appendage to me, that being said I bought a civilian X95, and absolutely love it, as a mounted troop the bullpup would have been much better to move around, it sits nice and gives a great sight picture.

Crash course on how to pronounce Hebrew/israeli words. If it has 2 syllables, the emphasis is almost always on the last syllable. ta-VOR, sha-LOME (hello or peace), slee-CHAH (excuse me), etc. If it has 3 syllables, the emphasis is almost always on the second to last syllable. mer-KA-vah (chariot or tank), mitz-NE-fet (helmet cover, chef hat). @Ethan I think you're confused, maybe. The SAR is a version of the Galil, the one you are talking about is probably either the CTAR (Carbine Tavor) or the MTAR (Micro Tavor), the latter has been replaced by the X95, basically a second gen MTAR. The X95 has evolved to become a new generation of Tavor in general as it comes with barrels of different lenghts and has improved ergonomics.

@@bluecaptainIT No, the SAR is not a version of the Galil; the Galil is an AK pattern rifle referenced as a GAR. The reference belongs to the Tavor Family of rifles. The Tavor SAR, the civilian version of the TAR 21; then the variants; which are all predicated on the X95 platform such as the MTAR. Then there is the Tavor 7, a 7.62x51 version styled after the X95 platform as well. X95 stands for experimental 9mm and 5.56. The name stuck for all versions. MTAR or short barrel X95 is available to the civilian market, in 5.56 as well as 9mm and 300bo in various barrel lenghts. Due to the stock on the X95 you can't really get a pistol version goin thus the SBR NFA item MTAR's are the only option. ALL Tavor familiy rifles manufactured for civilian purchase are semi-automatic only. Only dah po po get select fire.

@@John-zs2eo oh, I'm not really into the civvie market Tavors, so pardon me. Besides, I checked again and indeed the SAR (Short Assault Rifle) is indeed a version of the *military* Galil as well, together with the AR, ARM, MAR... Dunno about the civilian variants. Also, the now known as X95 was indeed formerly known as the MTAR, but after reaching the civilian market in the US it was updated (enlarged trigger guard and bigger rails) and renamed X95. Now, all new MTAR/X95 firearms made by IWI are produced with this new profile, but the "first-gen" MTAR in IDF service are referred both as MTAR and X95 since those old models received a conversion kit for 9mm as well. To avoid confusion, the majority of the military gun community and imfdb.com refer to the IDF version as MTAR and the new version as X95. Hope this helps! Have a nice day.

Very few of these are used in front line use in Israel. They have went back to using the M4 rifle as their primary battle rifle.

Not exactly. Falafel is so ancient it predate classical Arab civilization. Falafel, or something similar to falafel, is first attested in the diets of Christian monks in Roman-era Egypt, while hummus in the form we know it today is first recorded in the 13th century, also in Egypt, however that doesn't necessarily mean nobody cooked chickpeas that way before or elsewhere.
