Taskmaster enjoys huge succes in its Danish, Norwegian and Australian versions also and its because their teams/players are entirely in line with the concept of the UK series: it's NOT about the competition or winning, but about the comedy and the contestants and taskmaster taking the piss on each other at any given opportunity. Forgive me for saying it, but this obsession with 'winning' or being number one is particularly an American invention. 😃

That's why a lot of British panel shows don't do well in America. You are too competitive and its all about the winning . The brits couldn't care less who wins . We are just along for the ride and the laugh .

True. But we do care about injustice. Rhod deserved five points for that task. And while we don't care as much about winning, multiple times, in this season in particular, there were heated debates over the distribution of points...

You are never going to understand this show if you don't watch the full episodes. The challanges are there purely to spark the conversations and humour. It's not about winning it at all. Watching individual tasks will never show this too you and you will only get a tiny part of what the show is about. WATCH THE FULL EPISODES! Better yet watch them by series as other reactors have done very succesfully.

"Its all about the competition" Task master is not all about the competition, they purposefully pick a range of people who have different attitudes. It's about being entertaining and lateral thinking. Not winning. Every season has 1 to 2 people who want to win really hard and try really hard. 1 or 2 people who are just terrible and fail at everything. and 1 sort of in the middle. There's a reason why the American version of the show failed so quickly and its probably because they all took it far too seriously.

It is a very interesting cultural difference. I think you're probably right about why the US version failed. A lot of people didn't get it. It's just a fun, silly show, and it doesn't need to be anything else. It does make me wonder why there is this cultural difference. I wonder if it's related to the hyper competitive sporting aspect of American society which seems to cross-over into their politics, too. Everyone needs to be on a "team" and their team must win at all costs. Obviously we have football in the UK, but that kind of competitive attitude doesn't permeate our education system in the way it does in the US.

The American version failed because the contestants were incredibly unfunny and unlikeable. They also got very political. Maybe I’m forgetting some things, but I don’t think any of them were talented enough to be able to “try to win”

Thinking outside the box can be rewarded or punished at the whim of the all knowing Taskmaster . Rhod and Gregg are long standing friends and there was some embarrassing subversion of the mighty overseer by him in this series - all for laughs . The tasks are cleverly designed , James was lucky , or quick enough to catch Alex . There are some really great moments on the show and I'm glad you at least watch complete tasks with all five attempts rather than random clips .

You’d have been reading about the Greek legend of the Gordian knot. Anyway, most British panel shows (Taskmaster can be considered a panel show since there’s only a symbolic prize up for grabs and most participants are comedians) are played for laughs, not for the competition though the squabbling over technicalities makes for the comedy in the show.
@jaykafei4815

Love your reactions, you've got to check out some other series 7 tasks like the tying themselves up one, Rhod does very well in other tasks. Taskmaster is about so many things, the humour, the entertainment, the luck, the skill and the competition as you say. I do believe though that in Rhod's head, he had completed the task.

Technically Rhod won because the switch did infact do nothing as the statue had to be manually moved.
@jackhagens8964
@jackhagens8964 7 ай бұрын
Rhod was not correct. The task did not ask what the switch does…..it was very carefully worded (as many are) to ask “work out what happens when you flick this switch on” It didn’t ask what the switch did, it asked what happens when you flip the switch, and the answer was that Alex moves the statue when you flip the switch on. So Rhod disconnecting a circuit and then claiming the switch doesn’t do anything, was wrong, because that isn’t what was asked. And the switch being connected to a physically working electrical circuit or not, wouldn’t have changed the fact that Alex would move the statue whenever you flipped the switch.

Rhod was technically right. Once he turned off power to the switch, it did nothing. The question wasn't "What SHOULD the switch do" so I think we have to give him the points for forcing a technicality.

Although as the switch did not actually cause Olly to turn, but was just a signal for Alex to turn him, it was still fulfilling that function whether it had power or not.

You made the same mistake that Rhod did. The question was ‘What HAPPENS when you turn the switch on’. The switch itself doesn’t do anything, but what HAPPENS is that Alex rotates the statue. So no points for Rhod, or you! 😂
