From the taskmaster wiki: There was a team task which involved Chris feeding Ardal an aubergine in order to transfer it across the garden, which was referenced in their multi-track song. Alex revealed in a Zoom meeting for Bring Me The Head of The Taskmaster that the task was not given to the girls as they hadn't considered the connotations of an all-female team playing with aubergines. Whilst the details of the task were not revealed, Alex's notes on the task was revealed on Taskmaster: The People's Podcast, claiming that the team worked well together, used Ardal's hood and complete the task quickly.

Thats just a weird and prudish explanation imho.

The obvious solution to me is to just mix the actual concrete with some water. You could make an interesting shape and decorate it like Sally did. Possibly swirl a little of the cocoa powder in the part further from the flag where it is less structurally significant. Its probably more practical than entertaining though. I miss Mark and Nish from this series.

In terms of the concreting we got 2 complete successes, 2 weak attempts & 1 abject failure, a pretty good ratio for any given task. The real reason this didn't make the cut is that the materials provided meant we got a couple of shit jokes about baking & absolutely nothing with any visual interest. This task would have worked 1000% better if they'd been supplied with cement, clear instructions on how to make concrete & time enough to source their own decorative elements.
@sausage91452 жыл бұрын
There was nothing on the task that said they had to use the bowl ingredients, and knowing Alex there was probably a bunch of cement, sharp sand and pea shingle in the garage. Half of the fun happens when people spot the obvious trap and go find a workaround.
@yaekmon2 жыл бұрын
@@sausage9145 Maybe that's what he hoped for, but a big part of good task design is understanding the power of suggestion. Put a bowl of milk & a bowl of cement in front of someone & they'll mix the two together. Especially placing several bowls of not-very-interesting stuff in front of contestants, most will just assume that's what they have to work with & roll with that. You want contestants to go wild with whatever they can get their hands on? Put *nothing* in front of them. Short task time + bowls of stuff = contestants will make what you asked using the stuff given. Task design matters.
@jyrinx2 жыл бұрын
@@yaekmon True, but it still happens pretty often that someone immediately says “well, do I have to use that?” and then go looking. And a lot of the fun comes from that. Come to think of it, the provided things were probably _too helpful._ Give them a bunch of shit that obviously won't work, and a few will get frustrated and look elsewhere. Give them a bunch of shit that probably will kinda work, and too many of them will muddle through, especially since (this is the other problem) they can't find out what doesn't work. Driving the contestants to exasperation is key.
@yaekmon2 жыл бұрын
@@jyrinx I think the trick to a good task is that it needs to be fun to watch with the materials provided *and* allow for outside-the-box thinking. A good example is the pea propulsion challenge. The set-up line "nobody's gonna get the pea & just bung it up the carpet" makes you laugh in anticipation alone. Cue one contestant immediately losing the pea, one doing surprisingly well & one flat-out cheating in the most hilariously ham-fisted way possible. Followed up by two of the most memorable "technically correct" versions ever. What I'm saying is that the best tasks are ones where the vanilla version is just as entertaining to watch as the off-the-wall version.

Having the contestants do horribly and Greg be disappointed has proved to be the most funny parts, and illustrates the genius of how its all a big waste of time but sometimes we get to laugh and enjoy hilarious moments created by Alex's tasks. However, this seems like a poor task altogether. It should have been best flag and flagpole instead of the cement base. It's clear why the task was not part of the series - all the contestants got the same materials, so there was no variety in the bases they made. The only aspects that were amusing were Mark's failure to keep the flag upright, Aisling's ridiculous dog mess finish, and the fact Nish's design worked until Alex showed the flag wouldn't have stayed upright under pressure. If the TM scored this, had it been aired in the series, it would have been as followed: Sally Phillips - 5pts: For a strong base, despite the madcap decorating she did. Bob Mortimer - 3pts: For his flag not falling out, despite being in the spout of a watering can that the base was put into. Nish Kumar - 1pt: For the effort, and for having a base that held up at least for a while> Mark Watson - 0pts: For creating a useless flag base Aisling Bea - DQ - For failing to plant her flag into base when time was up; also for creating something so unappealing for the TM's flag. In terms of whether this task should be considered for a future series, I would say yes, but only under a different arrangement: * Contestants can either: ** Use cement, but must be tasked in making it decorative when creating the base, thus making the task more creative ** Use ingredients other than cement, to form the base, and be given time to source these before making the base. * The flag must not be held in anything to keep it upright, other than the base * The base must be able to set properly * The flag needs to still be upright after a few days
