Why do we keep allowing state and Federal governments to spend OUR money on Opera and Symphony Orchestras when they are only attended by a Very Small portion of the Tax Payers, Tennis as Well.

Maybe the TV networks and gambling companies which profit from AFL should be the ones who pay for the stadium.

We’ve been removing natives since we colonialised- this is an exotic tree so it seems hypocritical to think this one should be retained 🤷‍♂️

Good on them. I don’t buy there’s no way to save the tree. You’ve seen in Adelaide that with a bit of effort you can save trees and heritage and get great results.

True, also seen in Adelaide what happens when you trust developers to build a development around a tree and keep it alive.

Going to ruin the famous heritage waterfront. Yup it sure would be a big shame to replace an abandoned industrial site that adds so much to the ambiance.

It should be noted that the arborist who assessed that tree for the Launceston City Council is the husband of a Tasmanian Greens member of parliament.

The Goods Shed can simply just be relocated as it is portable in design, providing they can find a good spot for it. The rest of the arguments against it are either non-issues, and/or disingenuous and made in bad faith, especially regarding the concert hall and the cenotaph.

Here is an idea for a phd: 'The vibration effects of football matches, rock concerts of a closed roof stadium onto the strings of violins and harps and the brass of trumpets and trombones at a closed roof concert hall 175 metres up the road; a Hobart experiment'. 😂😂😂😂

Meanwhile in Canada, the Canadian Football League (playing a 12-man version of gridiron) would like a team in Halifax, Nova Scotia since the 1980's, but the lack of a decent stadium there makes it a dream still not come true. (You may call NS an "outcast" region just like TAS.)

@@kenoliver8913So we get to choose what our tax dollars are spent on do we? I'm not sure that's the way government works. We get to vote for whichever party we want to govern is but once elected they don't keep running back to each and every person who voted for them to see if that individual person wants their tax dollars spent on that particular project. Over the years I can think of many projects that both state and federal governments have embarked on. I don't remember being consulted each and every time whether I wanted my tax dollars paying for it. Government doesn't and couldn't run that way...... Nothing would ever get done. Well at least very little.

Lol. They are not real memberships, they were $10 sticker packs that turned in a operating loss for the club - already great financial planning lol. Conversion to real members is impossible because people signed up their dogs/cats/babies/fish etc. It's a poor indicator of support and a sad attempt to stiff arm the opposition.

Surely if this gets built there will be more than 7 games a year, plus there will be big bash and they will be pushing for tests, and they will be getting all the concerts they can now there is a venue. But I completely agree that the symphony orchestra arguing a monopoly on sound at all moments for short events scheduled months in advance is rich. Yeah no worries cobba, let's dump a 40,000 seat stadium in suburbia with little public transport options and two main roads in and out that can't even manage 10,000 attendees. Ever wondered why Waverley Park in Melbourne's east was abandoned in favour of the docklands stadium in the CBD? And then suggest send a team that can't attract 40,000 in Melbourne to Tasmania to play in it? You can't make this stuff up 🤣🤣🤣

@eddielong8663
@eddielong8663 3 ай бұрын
Tasmania never has and never will adopt an existing AFL club. End of story. It's not happenning for you. The Hawks and Roos were always nothing more than temporary substitutes while we waited for our own club. The Hawks will still have plenty of members left once their Tasmanian members jumpship, and crowd sizes for Roos "home" matches in Hobart are piddly enough as they are already so it's not like they're going to lose that much anyway. We get it. You don't want us in the comp. But you lost. Too bad. Please drop it and move on with life.
