for the pea soup 2,5 dl = 1 cup, so it should be a lot ticker, and we usually add mustard to the pea soup. For the surströmmig, open the can under water in a bowl (wash it at the same time) and serve it with potato, sour cream and red unions.

I hate it when I make these translation mistakes (and then never hear the end of it!). On this one I didn't even try to figure out the measurement, I just used Google Translate, which of course saw the 2.5 dl and (for whatever reason) translated it to 2.5 Cups!

The trick with the Soldatens ärtsoppa is that you should add roughly half the can with water to the soup. It is meant to be rather thick as it is made the "soldier" way and keep you going through the day. (Hence the extra pork. :) )

My mistake. Instead of looking and seeing the 2.5 dl I went right to Google Translate and for some reason that translated it to 2.5 cups. Hi. I liked your video. But some tips. Pour Mariestad in to a glass, that way you will get alot of more flavour out of it. We usually use butter on the breas which makes the Kalles abit more "washed out"and here we have both mild version and mixed with cream cheese. The herring comes to it's best with boiled potatoes, sour cream and some chopped red onions. Pea soup is for me, best served with a sweet and strong mustard, and traditionally in Sweden served with pancakes for dessert. A fun fact is that the groupe ABBA had to ask the abba-company to use the name.
@gschultz9
@gschultz9 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips Marcus. I kind of think the fun part of doing videos like this is NOT really knowing exactly how it's "supposed" to be done. But I can imagine how frustrating it must be for Swedes to watch!

Ärtsoppa is really nice i even have two cans of Soldatens at home because it takes to long to make and Soldatens is almost like my grannys except you need some more spices. and put some mustard in it. The black row you should put on eggs, boil eggs, cut them in half, put some mayo on and some black row. Abbas sill is kind of meh, we have ALOT better brands here, i can't eat Abbas but the good stuff is way better. Falukorv you cut in small pucks around a quarter of an inch thick and fry them in a pan and serve with mashed potatoes, it's really good to mix in some bits of bacon with the sausage to. The beer here is pretty good imo, never tried Stockholm but Mariestads is okay and this is our cheap stuff of lagers :D

:) thats kind of sweet but a bit poor plate. Hard bread with extra salted butter and som strong, nice cheese. Then you boil eggs and add caviar to them. Mix sour cream with a bit of red onion and the black caviar. Boil fresh potatoes and eat them with the sill. The caviar is not bad since its so salty. You can also bil eggs and take shrimps and mayo on them and then top it off with some black caviar :) And put some mustard in that soup. It is yellow peas by the way.

About the picled herring (and the mustard-picled herring) your not actually supposed to eat the onion, carrots and mustard. They are there to give the fish some taste, but it is the fish that is important. And about the texture, I guess it is up to personal taste. Personally, I love the mustard herring. And about the fermented herring: If you want to wait a long time before opening the can, keep it cold. The fermentation is ongoing inside the can, and if you wait for too long the expanding gases could make the can explode. This doesn't happen very often so you should be fine, but now you have been warned :)

Soldier's pea soup. Every Thursday in the army, the soldier's gets pea soup and pancakes. Historical dish Pea soup. We all seem to have some kind of relationship with it, you have not encountered it in the home so at school, and if not in school so in the military. And it is really not surprising that the moderate soup has been kept in view of its solid history. Did you know that August Strindberg's favorite dish was pea soup and that he called it goddess? In Sweden, the soup has been eaten since the 13th century. And that it became a traditional Thursday law is probably due to the fact that Friday was a fasting day during the Catholic Middle Ages, and that it was therefore loaded with a proper feast day before.

Your'e supposed to fry the sasuage before you eat it, however it is safe to eat it uncooked because they Cook it when they make it. But it problably tastes better if you fry it and season it with some salt and pepper ;)

IKEA stores, here in Sweden, have that very special section of Swedish foods. I react like Travolta in that scene of Pulp Fiction every other time I walk past. By the way, it's considered a warm romantic gesture to feed the Swedish candy Djungelvrål to your beloved, do not trust the many staged youtube videos, it is a perfectly normal not-dangerous candy.

Trying all of these at the same time :-/. The Onsala is supposed to be sliced. It' not a paste. Also the herring is supposed to be eaten with fresh early summer potatos, sour cream and fresh veggies (also boiled eggs).
