About lingonberries, go for Felix "rårörda lingon", which is not just a mushy jam, it actually has whole lingonberries in it, or better yet - buy one frozen package (250 gram) of lingonberries (can be found in basically any store, not very expensive at all, 20 SEK or so). Put the frozen berries in a glass jar, add about 1,5-2 dl of sugar. Stir, and let it sit in the fridge 24-48 hrs, until the sugar has dissolved. Enjoy! 😊

@Passioakka7 ай бұрын
The green stuff on the Princess cake is marsipan. We have almond paste, a more ruff version of marsipan and then marsipan which is smoother with a finer grinding of the almonds and more sugar in it. Vanilla custard and jam as a filling and whipped cream beneath the marsipan, a Swedish classic "tårta". Tårta is when a cake has layers with filling, decorated with marsipan, jelly and/or cream and decorations and what we mostly eat for birthdays and major weekends like a midsumer party (canilla cake with custard, strawberry jam, decorated with whipped cream and strawberries), Easter weekend and maybe New Years Eve. For X-mas we usually eat more traditional desserts like struvor - a sort of funnel cake, ginger bread and fruit cake. Also a lot of homemade candy like toffee, fudge, chocolates and marsipan-candy.

For the baked brown beans. They come in the cold ready made food asection in a plastic sausage. And it says "Bruna Bönor" on it.. They are already pressure cooked and just need heated up.. I add a tablespoon of mustard, salt, white pepper, a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar or white wine vinegar to it.. And drizzle some molasses over it. Molasses can usually be found in the sugar and flour section of the store and it says "Ljus Sirap" or "Mörk Sirap" on it. Mix well. salt and pepper and vinegar syrup to taste *until the sweet and sour is balanced to your liking. The potato cakes are in the freezer section among the fries usually. They are called "Rösti" and look like little triangles. You just put them on a paper lined baking sheet in the oven until crispy.. And fry the sausage in thin circles. I usually cut the sausage in three different places along the outer circumference so it fries more evenly or the sausage tends to puff up on one side..

The real problem with the potatisgratäng is that he didn't even cook it, but he got corrected in an earlier comment who tought him to do it. :p That said nothing beats homemade one, i can barely stand the premade ones. So flavorless most of the times, or taste like bland overcooked potatoes. Can't recall if i've tried peka brand so i'll give it a try some day i suppose.

Hi Simon this is how you eat kroppkakor (the big dumplings)) eith melted butter, whipping crem 40% and lingonberriy jam. You cook them with bay leaf and whoole allspice corn. Saw the rest of the video. I wish i could take you shopping. And that big chicken sausage is all wrong. I got frustrated. No offense. I wanna teach you ❤

You eat metballs with lingonberry and pickled cucumber. Often you have mashed potatoes with them and a creamy ”brown sauce”. Or meatballs, macaroni and ketchup 🤣 Kroppkakor you preferraby eat sliced and fried i a pan. And then top them with melted butter. You can have lingonberry with that too.

Daim was once spelled Dime in Sweden, when I was a kid during the 80's. But I guess we pronounced it wrong and they wanted to sound English they change the spelling to the swenglish variant Daim. And for Ölandskroppkakor... yummy You pronounced kexchoklad correct by the way and dont let the people who thinks its pronounced like in chexchocklad say otherwise. Let the war begin lol Just kidding. There is two pronouncations of this waffer chocolate treat and yes we do fight about it lol. And your almost ate surströmming the correct way. Well you did, the preparation was however not. Thats why it tasted really bad. You have to open it up under water and kinda in a sense clean the fermentation juice getting the fish before eating it.

Thoese are chicken meatballs. You picked the wrong thing again. No swede ever eats potato gratin with meatballs. Just boiled potato or homemade mash woud have been exelent. And you always have Lingonberrys and a kind of pickled sliced cucumber called "Pressgurka" with it, The sause shoud be "Brunsås" = Brownsause but i prefer "Gräddsås" thats Creamsause in Swedish. I laughed out loud when i got that you forgot to coock the gratin. I know the text on the packaging are in Swedish but it says on it to cook it the oven on 200 defrees for 20 minutes.

Melted butter!
@stiglarsson84057 ай бұрын
You bought potato gratin.. to use with steaks, its easyer to do one by one self, and it taste better! Boil potatos and make a mach of them to meatballs, one ad butter and cream, salt an pepper! Nobody over 5 years old eat food with fingers, use fork and knife.. as an adult, there should be melted butter to the kroppkakor! The fork shuold stay in your left hand, the knife in your right.. otherwise, your a child or an "American", and you dont like to be seen as one of them? Its chicken variant of "Falukorv", how is a staple food, cut it in slices and fry it serv vith fryed eggs at breakfast or lunch! Make a whole Falukorv to dinner for a whole family, serv with mashed potatos! The shrimps is for doing a "räkmacka", (open shrimp sandvich) first take a bread rye or toast, butter, sliced hardboild egg, some lettuce and a lot of mayo, squese a bit lemon on the shrimps! Its not prawns, its shrimps! The shrimpsallat is to use with hotdogs! Preferaly "halv special" its a hotdog in a hotdog bread with poato mach on top! And one get a fork and knife (plastic) at the hotdog stand.. guess whats they is for???

hey, thanks for getting back to me! i'm sure all of the food is better homemade but I don't have much time to be preparing things, and well that even goes into getting cutlery from the draw! aint nobody got time for that 🤣 thanks for the tips, i really appreciate it! the shrimpsallat on hotdogs sounds like a great combination! also, we don't say shrimp in australia, we call them prawns.. only funny americans say shrimp haha talk soon friend :)

@@CodeySimon You got a lot of useful coments.. on how to use typical swedish grocery items.. and there combinations! And you bought typical swedish "halvfabrikat" = "half prepared?" stuff that you can find in many swedish homes! But any swede know how to combine those to a typical swedish tasty meal.. kinda IKEA meatballs dish! Its rather this, go to a typical swedish lunch resturantes in office/factory lunch time.. its always at least one typical "Husmanskost", and one or two "international"! However, in typical tourist areas one only find "swedish meatballs" at a high price.. but then they often make the effort to make them there self and serv it with the right combination! Sooo, "husmanskost"/"lunch meals"/highway truckers meal/home made meals, its a pletora of good and bad meals! However, soo even if we reinvented both Pizza/ Texmex food (taco friday)/India food.. or combine those, like banana and curry or kebab pizza.. its still this.. fancy food in a resturante is in the moste cases fresh food, fish and other seafood is expensive becuse they kinda need to be fresh frome the sea! And then.. my visit to Gotland, the island of sheepes.. I have never ever eaten more mutton then in Gotland frome New Zeeland! In anyway swedish "Husmanskost"; kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmXRdZd7j96jgKs&ab_channel=FunSwedish
