Barbara Mandrell is one of country music's most successful artists of all time and certainly of those most talented. Where did she go?
#barbaramandrell #barbaramandrellsongs #iwascountry #secrethistory
Why Bobbie Gentry Vanished? • Why Bobbie Gentry Vani...
Why Paula Deen Disappeared? • Why Paula Deen Disappe...
Why Ricky Van Shelton Vanished? • Why Ricky Van Shelton ...
Barbara Mandrell is known for songs like “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool,” “Sleeping Single In a Double Bed,” “(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don’t Want To Be Right” and more. She won back-to-back CMA Awards for Entertainer of the Year and remained a dominant woman in country music into the 1990s.
Why did she disappear?
The answer doesn’t have as much to do with a deadly car accident as it does what happened immediately afterward. Mandrell and her husband are no longer active in country music, but they’re still active. This Secret History of Country Music video explores what happened to Barbara Mandrell.

She lives or at least used to live in the Woodlands, just north of Houston. Her cussing after that car wreck had to have been directly associated with her concussion. We who've had such tramatic brain injuries know, and having no filters are common.

Cyd Kriletich When I met Barbara Mandrell in the 1970's Country was enjoying a surge, but she complained about being passed by newer female artists. I joked that she was Country before it was cool. I met her in a small bar/sandwich shop where she was singing by herself. Someone was heckling her. I told the guy to shut up. She talked to me later and told me the heckler was her husband and he wanted to go leave. :)

I had the great pleasure of being in an opening act with my band for a couple of her shows in 1973. We actually backed her up on one of the shows. As mentioned in this video, her act included playing every instrument on stage including mine - the bass. Since I'm 6' 4" and she's about 5' 2" or shorter, there was a problem of getting the bass to fit without it touching the floor. She said that when it was her time to solo on the bass, for me to keep it on and she would stand behind me and reach around and play my bass while my hands were up in the air. That got a huge response from the audience and after the show we talked backstage for a while. She was so down to earth and super talented!

This woman had some really good songs back in the 70's and 80's. She suffered a very bad car accident back in 1984 and that kind of changed her. She went through a very dark period with recovery after the accident and her husband and kids were there for her and that is what helped her recover. I remember her mentioning in old interview years back that she said it is a blessing to wake up everyday not be in any kind of physical pain because after the accident she suffered for quite a while and when she got better she was very thankful. As this woman got older she just withdrew from the industry because she had her time and knew it.

You mean the car wreck where she ran a stop sign and t-boned the car that had the right of way and killed the driver, then turned around and sued his family for millions despite the fact that the wreck was HER fault? No matter how blonde, beautiful, rich, and famous you are, you still have to obey the law and take responsibility for your actions.

It is ashamed, that she was suing the insurance company. And they made it look like she was suing the family.
@edarnold1426
@edarnold1426 3 жыл бұрын
That is the way it works though! You have got to sue the person even though the insurance is the one who pays. I know this first hand as I had to sue a girl who hit me just to pay the hospital bill. She rolled my vehicle 4 times and I had a ruptured spleen, lacerated liver, complete care to the rotator cuff my left shoulder, broken ribs and a broken back. I spent 11 days in ccu with my hemoglobins at 6.5 and was spiking a 103 fever at times. People I'm against suing anyone, but when the hospital is suing you and threatening to take your home and you have no income for a year. What do you do??? I forgot to add that I had 3 surgeries due to that accident within that year. Insurance companies suck, but you can't live without them, unless your a illegal immigrant.
@edarnold1426
@edarnold1426 3 жыл бұрын
@Catania Momma Italia NOT WRONG! At least in my state! I had to Sue her, and her insurance company!!! All states are different!!! However I had to pay my insurance company for the some of the settlement because they had paid part of the hospital bill prior to the settlement, but nowhere near the total of the hospital and doctor Bill's. They only went up to $30,000 and that was nowhere close to the total of the bills. It was almost two years before the ball started rolling, then it took another 3 years before it was finalized. So a total of 5 years from the accident. I had to go through 2 or 3 depositions before we went through at least 2 mediations. See the girl had a yield sign and hit me square on the passengers side of my truck, yet she said that I hit her. So I'm guessing that her lawyer told her to lie before her deposition. My lawyer ask her, then why was Mr. Arnold's truck hit square on the passenger's side, she said I don't know, that is all I remember. The other insurance company try's to hold out and wear you down so that they can lowball you into taking a lesser amount. Trust me I went through this. THIS IS HOW IT WENT DOWN IN MY STATE. I was also told that if my case was in another state that i would have gotten about 4 times what my settlement was. Oh and I had to pay all the medical Bills out of the settlement money that I received, but going through a lawyer they automatically drop 40%, however the lawyer takes 30% of the settlement. Please don't tell me wrong when I went through this! What I'm telling you is not hear say, it is factual, it happened to me exactly like this!!! I still have 2 boxes of paperwork in my basement that was handed to me by my attorney after the case was closed. It includes all the medical papers, and everything else pertaining to the accident and my life during that time.

@@edarnold1426 Your absolutely correct. Every state has different laws on auto insurance liability. Michigan has "No Fault" and the highest premiums in the US. I know, I lived there. @@jameswood231 Thank you James! I'm one state above you and one below Michigan, so you know where I'm at. James I am lucky to be alive from what they tell me. My hemoglobins stayed at 6.5 for three weeks, and the fever stayed that long too, well up and down that is. That accident changed my life in a heartbeat from working 12 hours a day 5 days a week and making great money, to no money other than what my wife brought in. We had just upgraded to a new house 3 years earlier, and we had a 13 year old and 7 year old daughter when it happened. In fact I had left early to wash my truck and take a sandwich from McDonald's to my 12 year old daughter, because she was a cheerleader and they had practice before the game. I never made it to town and was only 2.5 mile from my home.

Barbara Mandrell was the original trailblazer for women in country music and crossed over into multiple styles of music from r&b, to christian to pop. Multitalented, creative and signed autographs for every single fan after her live shows. Played like a million instruments. Was country when country wasn't cool and so, so, so much more. Music is what it is in part because of this legendary lady and her incredibly wise father/manager for many years. Thanks for doing this video.

Love Barbara Mandrell and my dream came true in 1986 when I was trying to clean the house while my Mom and Dad were milking the cows in our dairy. One thing is they wouldn't let me their handicap daughter go off on a bus to Nashville Tennessee. So, my oldest brother told Mom and Dad if they gave him the money he'd take. And that's what he did. I got to go to Fan Fair because, I'd already ordered the ticket and they gave my brother a day pass, I'd ordered my tickets to Louise Mandrell's Fan Club function and got to meet her and RC Bannon but, didn't get to meet Irlene. I'd also had tickets to Barbara's Fan Club Breakfast and and that was my dream come true! And I'm still a big fan of hers. Now I'll get back to your video. My Daddy had colon cancer at the time. I tried paying my Daddy back but, he wouldn't take anymore money back after the second month I tried paying him back. He passed away Dec 22, 1987.
