(Ofcourse Nobody from my relatives is doing that trade anymore) but from what I observed , it's dying trade out here. The tappers make just enough to make a living like any labor work. Food on banana leaf is not called thali its sadhya. And cannals are not man made its actually, the land is raised from a very big lake. Ones All that was a big lake, latter people build land from the lake. Most of the places land is lying well below the water level....

it shows that coconut tapping in Kerala is a very ancient practice, when ideal materials were hard to get like light weight metals or other materials, wood with such a characteristic will be heavy to climb with, besides similar bones will be easy to get from domesticated animals.

Blindness is caused by distilled spirit adulterated by industrial alcohol

No it won't , toddy is made more stronger by adding spirit or ethyl alcohol , normally it is done in controlled environments , unregulated makers sometimes messes up the formula that leads to accidents that leads to blindness is because of ethyl alcohol being higher, alcohol making without proper license is highly illegal in Kerala and India.
