It's interesting how Iranian snacks are all natural and so much healthier than the American ones

The first thing I noticed since I entered America was the chemical smell of foods and other stuff around me, and everything had so much salt and sugar. You can buy good food in America, even better than in Iran, only if you can afford to pay around 1500$ for food every month. (with 2022 prices, of course). But, in general, because culturally, people have way fewer options buying from local stores, you are prone to eat unhealthy anyways!

For Zoya... I used to put my fruit roll ups in the freezer so they would peel off the plastic even easier. If your treat is a thin sheet you should try it & see how the texture reacts. I liked that the fruit roll ups would be cold & I would let them "melt" in my mouth & get chewy. Good stuff 😋

Zoya's snarkiness was kinda refreshing. And that Gaz sounds delicious. Not surprised about the saltiness of the snacks, as most desert dwellers need the salt to replenish what they lost in the heat.

If you eat salt you lose water :) also, these sour snacks are the traditional snacks of North Iran, which are even greener than Vermont lol. Iran's not a desert, it has a desert in the middle of it. because two huge sets of mountains divide the country into three parts and make all kinds of weather, having all kinds of ethnicities and races living in them. My hometown is even greener than Vermont. Just search North Iran you will see.

@@OrganicaShadows While eating salt can dehydrate you, it would only do so if you did not drink lots of water along with it. While Iran itself is not as arrid as other middle eastern countries, Persia was much larger and encompassed a large amount of desert. Zoya identified the snacks as Persian, not Iranian. Gaz, it turns out, is from the Isfahan region of Iran which is a high desert. Similar to the area I grew up in. I grew up in the desert southwest of the US. When I was working construction it was made clear that I should get plenty, but not excessive, amounts of salt in my diet. If you don't get enough salt and you drink excessively, you run the risk of lowering your blood sodium levels. This is not a good condition to be in. That is why we have sports drinks, which has a mix of sodium, potassium and other vital minerals for those who are active on hot days. I speak from experience as far as needing more salt in ones diet for those that live in hot and humid environments as well, as I now live in Florida. Sports drinks dominate the local convenience stores here.

@@derfman1963 Me too I spoke out of my experience, maybe I'm wrong! whenever I eat something salty I go to bathroom alot and lose water. I am Greek-Georgian-Persian. I have lived in all those countries plus United States and I found Iran a very interesting place, it has so much veriaty that I cannot describe unless you go and see. You see a desert and drive 1 hour and find a jungle, then you drive to mountains and can ski on the snow. If you have been in Turkey, it's kinda the same, but still very different for it's own. Turkey doesn't has that much geographical variety. Speaking of Gaz, Greeks have something similar to Isfahan's gaz called Mandolato. I guess in Turkey I found something similar too but it had no pistachio and had more sugar in it.

@@OrganicaShadows California has a very wide variety of climates too. You can bask in the sun in the desert and take a tram ride to go snow skiing in just a few hours. Head north a few hours and you will be in one of the most fertile plains on earth(when the politicians allow water to flow freely). An hour to the west and you will be amongst the biggest trees in the world. Another hour west and you can surf some of the biggest waves. If it wasn't for the fact at how poorly it is ran I would love to move back. I miss the mountains so much.

Even though Swedish fish come in multiple colors, the red ones are iconic and the best ones. I remember getting them at a store down the street when I was little and they are $0.01 a piece. My cousin and I would walk there all the time and get them.
