As a C level at a cloud computing company I couldn't agree more, it's utterly impossible to find female infrastructure engineers. When we go to software conferences there still are a few woman. But once its infrastructure only the woman basically disappear from existance. If have been at events for networking equipment with hundreds of people and only 2 bar staff where female. It's a serious problem.
@hadeseye22973 ай бұрын
@@malloot9224 Calling a natural, biological and psychological difference betwen woman's and man's psyche "a serious problem" is a problem itself. Why would you need, expect, or would want more woman in a field that's basically appealing to man? Do you think woman would need more men in kindergartens, or at their hand woven communities? @axelkusanagi4139 text about aesthetics is also cringe. Hardware has to work not look. And will all due respect, as fun as this video can be for informational purposes, as an IT professional myself I don't see any need or purpose in having my own full blown network infrastructure at house, or network bandwith being bigger than 30Mbps. It's nothing more than consumptionism. People just don't know how to spend their money. And yet they are terribly concerned about Planet Earth while at least every second year they do an upgrade. xD A nice channel, marketed with pretty face that earns her money by showing IT gear.

After years of dealing with cage nuts: Grab a PCI card slot cover from an old PC case. Push the far tab of the cage nut in with your fingers so the nut is at an angle, then just pop the other tab in using the slot cover. Saves all the skin on your fingers. To remove the nut, use the slot cover to push the tab in (from the nut side of the cage), and catch the nut as it pops out.

I'm going to run a few Game servers for my organization out of my house and was looking at different projects people were doing to get an idea of how I wanted it to look. I hate saying it, but in my years of telecommunications and managing a data center team, I'm happy to see more women getting into this. Girls typically do not go for networking and when they do they aren't that great at it. They're more standoffish with the fact that they are girls rather than taking pride in their knowledge. You on the other hand are the opposite, very happy to run into this and I think I will be doing a similar build. Excellent work! Finally, someone who knows what they are talking about and takes pride in their work!

When installing gear in a rack put in the bottom screws first. Leverage will work for you to let you install the top screws mostly hands free. If you install top screws first and something happens that causes you to let go of the equipment (and it's heavy enough) the leverage can damage the rack ears or rack posts.

10:38 you mention setting Google as the Secondary DNS for backup, and according to the DNS spec this does make sense, however, after running a BYOD network with 2x Pi-Holes in VMs (Primary & Secondary) it does seem like some devices do round-robin style NSLookups with a share of about 80:20 between primary and secondary with no real pattern as to which devices or why, so may be worth either removing the second entry or setting up Pi-Hole on the second one with a different upstream provider (DoH/DoT for encrypted DNS requests?) At home I run both a UniFi Controller and Pi-Hole on the same Pi 3 Model B+ and it doesn't even break a sweat, so you have a bunch of spare compute headroom with both of those Pi 4's that you can do a lot of other stuff with, possibly Home Assistant or Plex? But yeah, good stuff, I'm planning a very similar setup for when me and my partner move in together

Love that ref to Discovery's Mycelial network! Not useful for you since you already bought an enclosure, but Rasp Pi Mag, from the RaspPi Foundation recommends standing the Pi on it's side as it allows air to easily move across the cpu.
@TastyPC3 жыл бұрын
I have some ideas for additional cooling. 1) you know how servers sometimes have plastic shrouds to direct air through heatsinks etc, well I was thinking I could 3D print little shrouds between the Pi CPU heatsink and the rear fans that I'd add. 2) The PCB for the Pi gets really hot which I believe is intentional. With it being in a metal case I thought I could add some sort of thick thermal pad under each Pi, connecting it thermally to the case which would act as a large passive heatsink.

Sounds like a tasty plan XD. If you have a way to measure infrared or someone you know does, it would be a great 5-6 min video idea.

FYI: There is actually no such thing as "backup" DNS- when you define multiple DNS servers your systems will simply use one at random. This means ads will get through whenever the second DNS server is used. You have to use the Pi-hole only and no other DNS servers for complete ad-blocking.
