Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992) was the game that introduced the Super Dash Attack. The ability, referred to as Spin Dash in later games, has become one of the most beloved features of the series and, indeed, one of the most prominent features of the speedrunning scene as a whole.
In this exhilarating movie, the authors speed their way through this classic's bonus stages to collect all 7 chaos emeralds, as well as the varied acts making good use of Spin Dashes to finish them in record time. The authors also control Tails - Sonic's two-tailed foxy buddy - to allow for even faster routes and making shorter work of bosses.
We have a run where Knuckles ( tasvideos.org/... ) replaces the main characters and finishes the game in record time, and another run where he goes for the max rings ( tasvideos.org/... ) challenge.
We also have movies in Sonic the Hedgehog ( tasvideos.org/... ), Sonic the Hedgehog CD ( tasvideos.org/... ) and Sonic 3 & Knuckles ( tasvideos.org/... ).

Given that this is being played at Stock (07.67 Megahertz, or 0488 Cycles per Line), rather than on MAX Frequency criteria (094.30 Megahertz, or 6000 Cycles per Line, as how I handle OCs in Regen), one of the most notable things you will witness in this run is that Sonic and Miles go well above the Ring Threshold for the Final Checkpoint in the Special Stages to reduce the impact of the Lag Frames/CPU Bottleneck that is experienced at Stock in Gens Rerecording; it definitely makes me want to see what a MAX Frequency TAS would look like, once a Rerecording Emulator with proper Custom or Extreme Overclocking Support comes, every Special Stage wouldn't need runners to collect more than the FC Target and thus it'll save some time in the Results Tally for RTA~based time measurement (due to Sonic and Miles collecting a Ring Count closer to or below the I0000 Point/Hundred Ring mark); I've already got a decent routing for All Special Stages criteria as Knux, but Sonic and Miles (Co~op) does still need some studying.

Ahhhh thanks for that, I went through the entire video feeling like the levels from Chemical Plant Zone onwards were impeccable, but that the special stages were sloppy and almost half assed. I assumed there was a reason for it but beyond a vague guess at a lag reduction I was completely uncertain.

Too bad for a 100% run that Super Sonic isn't actually used. The category allows zips, making Emerald Hill rings gathering and the bonus stages (aaaand Sky Chase somehow) the only exclusive show of the run. Still nice work though

Although I agree with you, I should say, "then go and make one better than this one". There is no 100% Sonic 2 TAS, Shiro has laid down the very first brick on this category's foundation. If you watch some old TAS'es, you'd have to cry for how unoptimized they were. They were laying down bricks. I hope this TAS can improve undestanding about how to TAS Sonic 2 100% properly and in future we have improved, optimized Sonic 2 100% TAS'es. But it needed to start from somewhere. Here is the first brick. Now, go and make that better Sonic 2 100% TAS, we need it!
