Great video! Have to point out that this is not the standart Kazan Tatar, but one of the Mishar varieties: the ç sound is pronounced as a whistling sh in Kazan Tatar [ɕ], and as ch or ts in Mishar variety. The alphabet used is also a bit far from Zamanalif, the most commonly used Latin alphabet for the Tatar language.

Kazan was also one of the last bastions of resistance against the Moscovites (another being the Khanate of Sibir which would fall after Kazan) during the Imperial expansion, with the Russian Tsardom defeating them and absorbing them as a part of the soon-to-be Empire, having to deal with Russification and Christianisation efforts by Russophones. Had they resisted better, then maybe we'd have a Tatar Free State in the modern-day or perhaps a New "Golden Horde" had they decided to take the path of their Mongolian ancestors.

For Tatars, you usually write your language in Latin or Cyrillic, you write in Latin in Tatarstan or only outside of Russia? Some tatar who can answer me or someone who knows? I want to learn this language Good video andy :-)
@kkistiby6 ай бұрын
As Tatar I can say we usually use a Cyrillic Alphabet, but many modern Tatars, especially in emigration or living outside Russia, may use Latin Alphabet. We have 2 versions: 1999 and 2012. You can google it and find Wikipedia page about Tatar language and script. By the way, in Tatarstan if you write official message to government in Latin Tatar or Arabic Tatar they must accept it. I wish you good luck in learning our language!

Is this language mutually intelligible with Turkish?
@elimalinsky70697 ай бұрын
@hakanozaslan9571 Yeah, I'd figured Tatar and Turkish aren't mutually intelligible. They come from different branches of Turkic. Tatar is a Kipchak language and Turkish is Oghuz. Nevertheless all Turkic languages are fairly close to each other as they only started to diverge circa 300 CE and are inherently more conservative than Indo-European languages, especially in regard to consonants, as these appear to be quite stable in Turkic languages, so you can indeed recognize isolated words, but whole sentences and especially quick and flowing vernacular will be almost completely unintelligible between branches of Turkic. It can sometimes be hard to understand each other in languages within the same branch as well, because even a conversation between Turkish people and Azeris can find its difficulties in a very informal or casual setting, and that's while many consider Turkish and Azeri to be basically the same language.
