Wow, this is a long time! I hopefully will start a new tatting project soon, so that I don't forget what I have learned.

Thats some beautiful lace for your first time. Well done! Also, somehow you calmed my fear that tatting would be something overly comlicated. It always looks different if a fellow beginner shows the learning process or if its shown by a professional with all the already magical hand movements. Thanks, i will now try it too in near future. Alles Gute für dich!

Thank you! I'm glad my video helped you. I was also totally intimidated by the videos I saw at first, because the movements didn't make any sense at all. But now, after a little more than half a year, they already feel completely natural to me. Good luck and all the best to you too!

I love that you have tried tatting. I love that you want to learn an art form that is so unknown to many. Keep going. Keep learning. I finally learn after years of wanting to learn and giving up too quickly. It is now my pocket craft, I always have a shuttle or 2 and a piece I'm working on in a small coin purse in my pocket. Your work is lovely, don't be too critical of it. There's no right or wrong. There are so many different things to learn and ways of making your knots. ❤❤❤❤ what you have accomplished is huge. Oh my gorsh, i just realized this post is 2 years old😊

And I'm reading your comment nonetheless! Thank you for your kind words! I just started a tatting project after a long time of not having done any tatting. But I just wanted to have a small, portable project. Just as you described it. :)

I’m so proud of you! I tried my hand at tatting and I became very proficient at making knotted loops. I will have to try again soon when I get the courage again

You did an amazing job learning to tat. I know from the experience of trying to teach someone else how to tat, it is not easy for a beginner to learn without being shown in person. I was lucky, I was taught at 5 or 6 years old by my mother, many moons ago. You don't steam tatting - the best way to get it to lay correctly is to dampen it with water & then pin it out, using the picots & then letting it dry pinned out.
@ankanyofficial2 жыл бұрын
That's true, it wasn't easy, and I probably would have learned it faster if someone had taught me when I was young. However, no one else in my family uses this technique. That's true, I would do it that way in the future. Steaming is a technique we learnt at university when we needed to do it quickly. Somehow, it's ingrained now.

Thank you very much! Yes, I am still tatting and really enthusiastic about the technique. I have now made three ribbons, and I am thinking about what I can use them for. I might make a video about it soon.

I love needle tatting, but have found similar issues with tension, and limitations easily resolved by converting to shuttle. However I do not own a shuttle. 🤷🏻♀️ I should focus on the endless WIPS and UFOS taking up space before they fully take over my home lol I’m so excited to see all the wonderful things all the experiences you share in this channel!!!
@ankanyofficial Жыл бұрын
The shuttle really gives more opportunities, and fortunately I got one for Christmas last year. :) I always have new ideas and want to work on them, but the current ones usually were at this point, too. It's strange how the new stuff can motivate so much more. Or at least feel like they do. Thank you so much!

I did not even know tatting existed! I am so excited!! Also, how do you not have more subscribers? you have great production quality and your project explanations are always clear. Plus you remind me of a german friend I am missing a bunch :) I'm so glad I found your channel!
@ankanyofficial3 жыл бұрын
Neither did I, until my mother handed me the book with the words, "This is something for you." in the hand. Thank you, that's so sweet! It's probably just a question of time. I haven't been doing it that long yet. I hope you meet your German friend soon again. :)

This pattern needs 2 shuttles to tat!
@ankanyofficial3 жыл бұрын
Yes, that's right. I worked the rows one after the other, always offsetting the second shuttle by a few inches. It might have been easier to work directly with two shuttles.

Stringchronicity, in Calgary, Alberta Canada, has done tatting projects to make lace. Maybe you could reach out for a collaboration? Just an idea.I have a sample of my Great Grannies tatting lace. I have the shuttle, I just have to teach myself the how-to. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

@@ankanyofficial Her pockets are brilliant. And I love that someone close to my age is being a sewing geek on the internet. It turns out she used to live in a village in the Ottawa Valley, so we have Allot of the same reference points. Plus, if memory serves, she has a treadle sewing machine she wants to refurbish. Maybe you could swap skills...

@@ankanyofficial She has a good amount of family photographs from the late 1890's through to the Edwardians. She wants to make the wardrobe on the treadle. I have the same idea. To sew outfits from family photos from the 1850's to the 60's. I have a 1915 hand-crank Singer 99 K. That machine was made from around 1900 until into the 60's. I want to sew it's time-period.
