Never. But tbf, my hairdresser is a close childhood friend and does amazing work 😅Also we are close enough that even my social-anxiety-ridden self can speak up and say when I don't like something, so another reason why it's his salon or no salon. The only time I was a tiny bit disappointed was when I gave him *full* creative control and got a really gorgeous copper color with no cut. Not because it looked bad, I absolutely adored the colors. I was just hoping for something a bit wilder.

As an autistic person myself, watching her slap the autism speaks logo onto someone that either has autism or has someone close to them with it was gut wrenching. That’s vile. I've been a tattoo artist for over 30 years. At 9:11 in this video is every tattoo artist's "real bummer moment". As she refills the ink chamber, you can hear her grinding the running machine into the base of the colour cap. If we do that by mistake, we MUST change the needle. It's dead. The needle tips have become hooks. And listen to how loud it is. Watch your tattoo artist the next time they mix colours while the machine runs. They are paying attention, NOT to hit the side or bottom of the cup. If an artist hears this noise, we must change needles. Think before you ink! Ask to see previous "Tattoos, not wanna do designs". If they cannot show you 12 or more good tattoos, leave the shop and do not pay a penny.

Not to mention her utter disregard for hygiene. My mom was a tattoo artist (retired now), and she would never, EVER have let me near a tattoo machine as a kid. That is incredibly irresponsible, not only from an artistic standpoint, not only because it’s actual child labor, not only from any emotional standpoint, but because tattooing requires extremely strict safety measures to be done, well, safely. And no matter how talented a child is, there is almost no chance they can follow every safety procedure every time. There is no world in which letting a child tattoo is remotely safe, responsible, or even slightly sane. I’m genuinely flabbergasted.

They're all like "What did you expect?" when my response would be "That your mother taught you to be humble about what you know and grateful to have avoided mistakes made in ignorance." Pitching your tats at $100 each definitely screws over young people/tattoo virgins with low income and high trauma who may not have had a chance to see really decent work before and know how much time and effort it takes (hence higher prices). $100 is a lot for some people, they shouldn't be punished for that, and these idiots in the comments rile me up. My wife and I have many tattoos . I started getting them before her and she used to ask for advice. It was: 1: Don't do walk in appointments. 2: Visit several shops and ask to see the portfolio of each and every of their artists. 3: after seeing at least 10 - 20 artists, narrow it down to you're favorite 3 based on how well you like the artist and their styles/art. 3. Don't try to haggle the price because it's an insult to the artist 4. You get what you pay for. 5. Always tip your arest for a job well done (15% is a good number). 6. If they draw it out or use a stencil first, NEVER be afraid to ask the artist to make changes to alter it in any way you see fit. It's their job and they depend on you to let them know if you'd prefer a change, no matter how small. I promise you that it won't hurt their feelings. They want you to be satisfied with the final product. 7. You really DO get what YOU pay for. The better the artist, the more they charge. Never cheap out and if you can't afford it, SAVE SAVE SAVE for it. 8. Never settle for an artist or their shoddy work just because you vibe with them (they are salesmen) and work for you. 9. Let them know that you will be giving a tip before they start to work on you because they will care more about how well they do to try for the best tip they can get. 10. Take a shower before you go to the appointment and don't shave the area before. They need and want the freshest shave possible which will be done there in the shop. 11. Use a good lotion on the area multiple times per day in the week leading up to the appointment, but not the day of. 12. Drink tons of water to remain hydrated and include a something with electrolytes between waters. 13. Take hard sweet candiee (such as Jolly Ranchers) for during the appointment so the sugar will prevent you from getting dizzy or nauseated. 14. Don't take painkillers within 24 hours prior to the appointment. Especially ones like aspirin that thin your blood. 15. Don't drink or do any drugs the night before or day of the tattoo. 16. Don't go on an empty stomach the day of, but don't eat immediately before the appointment either. 17. Have aftercare products already available. Antibacterial non-scented liquid soap. 18. Know exactly what you want and bring in pictures (of the tattoo style) and multiple examples of the theme. Want a tattoo of an animal? Bring in multiple pictures of that animal they can add their artistic style to bring the tattoo to life. 19. Trust your artist. If they say the idea can't be done the way or the location you want it, believe them. 20. Beware of going overboard with aftercare, as it slows healing and can screw them up. Hope this helps someone.

Forgive me for the culture difference here but tipping the tattoo artist? Huh? To me, this makes absolutely no sense, to the point of it being ridiculous logically. If I am availing a service, for which I am paying them for nothing but just that service, it makes 0 sense to add in a tip? Unlike a restaurant or food joint (or similar situations) where the server is the facilitator rather than the end product, it does make sense. But I am there to get a tattoo. That's... That's literally what I'm paying for. They also exclusively include the cost of materials in the bill itself + their time. And 'tip' them an additional 15% over and above the cost that I've actually borne anyway? To me this sounds absolutely ridiculous. It's nothing short of a hidden, unreported cost. That's like saying keep my prices incredibly low to not only save my tax liability but also out compete my competitors with low prices but end up being on par with them in the name of tips. This is like buying a product for $1 but the 'shipping' charges are $10.

@@Bladarctipping is not required but it’s appreciated. additionally if a tattoo artist works for a shop, about half goes to the owner, so unless you want to pay double for the tattoo, that likely wouldn’t be worth double, i would rather tip. and if they don’t and they’re paying rent it’s more considered polite, just like tipping hair stylists or at a nail salon. again, not required, but it’s a good way to show appreciation. plus if you’re talking about wanting a tattoo at the cost of materials there is no benefit to the artist, if you want them to include additional prices to cover rent or the percentage that goes to a shop owner you are likely going to pay more for less and just tipping would cost you less money. unless you are going to a really high end place were the artist is charging 500-1000, sometimes more, an hour, that’s a situation where tipping is definitely not necessary.

Just practice enough and you'll get it. Also charge appropriately for your time. Maybe if you feel too bad, if the tattoo looks absolutely horrid in both your opinion and the client's opinion, you could discount the tattoo or just let them have it for free. It's always a risk. If someone did bad on my tattoo, tbh I'd just blame myself for picking that person and would still pay them. People need to be compensated for their time, you know? I'm just saying if you're worried about a tattoo you put onto someone's body looking bad, think about how you can remedy the situation before it inevitably happens.

Two things to add! 1. She’s not only dragging her client into the puzzle piece discourse, but also her sweater sleeve over that tattoo! I did a breakdown over the 3 separate clients she tattooed that same day in that sweater. All of which, dragging over the open tattoos. She even tried editing it out on her last one, got sloppy, and left a bit of it in the video I was able to capture. 2. The licensing in Texas is silly. Basically, the shop is licensed, and any artist under it is licensed because of the shop. It’s basically an umbrella. They can pull anyone from the street and have them be “licensed” as long as they’re in a shop! Hence her daughter being “able” to tattoo. It’s fine, but Ariel has left her in there alone with clients before as well as have her answer phone calls and other duties while not being paid. OOoh I’m excited to explain this one! Actually, it’s quite similar. The term aspergers, used by autism speaks, isn’t just a funky term. It’s taken from the name of a naz! Doctor who decided which autistic folks lived (the ones with so called aspergers aka low support needs autism) and which unfortunately were killed. As autism speaks openly uses the phrase and are too lazy to NOT endorse the horrific crimes of the naz!s and also created the puzzle piece logo, some might see a little correlation with supporting nazis and autism speaks, and therefore.... the puzzle piece logo! It’s a little far fetched, I’ll admit, and obviously the naz! Symbol is far more hatred fuelled, I just wanted to point this out that maybe it’s not on a completely different level. A much lower one yes, but in some way it holds some similarity. Hopefully I phrased this ok @kvng5646

But yeah... at least my lines dont intersect in ugly ways, having art stolen or even having just crazy improper proportions. Also, I know she probably tells her cilents before she does it, but blindfolding a client for the entire process and making their life long commitment a COMPLETE surprise by the end of it just feels SO unethical, in so many ways. Imagine I go into a plastic surgeon who tells me to close my eyes for a surprise and I don't get to add any extra thoughts or concerns on the product the surgeon wants to do on me. Ariel literally only has clients because she does the $100 tattoos. A $100 tattoo probably sounds amazing to someone with few or no tattoos + if they don't really have that much knowledge on tattoos in general. It's a perfect business model for her. She gets to choose the design, the client doesn't see the tattoo the entire time, and (as she admits) she rushes the hell out of it because she's only charging them $100. And since it looks like many of her $100 tattoo clients are inexperienced or first-timers, they have little knowledge on the entire process and don't question it. If you went to a good artist wanting a full-color tattoo that was 5"+ it would be a much longer and much more expensive process. You'd probably pay a good tattoo artist up to 5000$ for some of those designs and it could take several months before it's finished.

Hmm, I think it goes something like: I am autism. I’m visible in your children, but if I can help it, I am invisible to you until it’s too late. I know where you live. And guess what? I live there too. I hover around all of you. I know no color barrier, no religion, no morality, no currency. I speak your language fluently. And with every voice I take away, I acquire yet another language. I work very quickly. I work faster than pediatric aids, cancer, and diabetes combined And if you’re happily married, I will make sure that your marriage fails. Your money will fall into my hands, and I will bankrupt you for my own self-gain. I don’t sleep, so I make sure you don’t either. I will make it virtually impossible for your family to easily attend a temple, birthday party, or public park without a struggle, without embarrassment, without pain. You have no cure for me. Your scientists don’t have the resources, and I relish their desperation. Your neighbors are happier to pretend that I don’t exist-of course, until it’s their child. I am autism. I have no interest in right or wrong. I derive great pleasure out of your loneliness. I will fight to take away your hope. I will plot to rob you of your children and your dreams. I will make sure that every day you wake up you will cry, wondering who will take care of my child after I die? And the truth is, I am still winning, and you are scared. And you should be. I am autism. You ignored me. That was a mistake. And to autism I say: I am a father, a mother, a grandparent, a brother, a sister. We will spend every waking hour trying to weaken you. We don’t need sleep because we will not rest until you do. Family can be much stronger than autism ever anticipated, and we will not be intimidated by you, nor will the love and strength of my community. I am a parent riding toward you, and you can push me off this horse time and time again, but I will get up, climb back on, and ride on with the message. Autism, you forget who we are. You forget who you are dealing with. You forget the spirit of mothers, and daughters, and fathers and sons. We are Qatar. We are the United Kingdom. We are the United States. We are China. We are Argentina. We are Russia. We are the Eurpoean Union. We are the United Nations. We are coming together in all climates. We call on all faiths. We search with technology and voodoo and prayer and herbs and genetic studies and a growing awareness you never anticipated. We have had challenges, but we are the best when overcoming them. We speak the only language that matters: love for our children. Our capacity to love is greater than your capacity to overwhelm. Autism is naïve. You are alone. We are a community of warriors. We have a voice. You think because some of our children cannot speak, we cannot hear them? That is autism’s weakness. You think that because my child lives behind a wall, I am afraid to knock it down with my bare hands? You have not properly been introduced to this community of parents and grandparents, of siblings and friends and schoolteachers and therapists and pediatricians and scientists. Autism, if you are not scared, you should be. When you came for my child, you forgot: you came for me. Autism, are you listening?

One can only hope. For some reason suing ppl in the us is incredibly expensive. That's one of the reason ppl breaks laws like that and are not afraid of doing so. But also as someone who never got tattooed before I heard this statement from someone and I took it to heart: "A tattoo is a permanent thing on your skin that will never truly fade. It may look horrible in five to ten years and you need to re paint it and depending on your body size and weight it can be disfigured with time. However it's still a permanent thing. If you're about to do it. Do it before a lot of thinking. Think on what you want. Think on what you love. And think on what you want in you r body because it will never go away and fixing it or removing it will be more painful and even just downright impossible. And most of all: do. Not. Go. Cheap. Someone who charges you few hundreds will botch your tattoo. Pay for a professional that has a lot of examples, real examples. Pay for one that draws stuff and know what he's doing. Art is expensive and you're putting art on your body. Pay for it right because you're not buying a canvas you're asking someone to use you as one. If anything goes wrong it's also your fault for wanting to cheapen on it and also for not doing your research and taking these things seriously". I don't think I'll ever have a tatoo simply because I know how expensive art is and I don't think I can spent the amount of money necessary for someone to do that to me and having the certainty that it will look good. Cheap 100 tattoo gone wrong? Oh my who would have thought!!

As a tattoo artist myself, I see this a lot with artists whose only character trait is "I've been in this industry for soooo long" and they think that if they've been tattooing the same thing over and over forever, they get a pass to give up on improving their skills. While this lady is a more extreme example, many pros also tend to go stagnant with their work due to this same mindset. Tattoo artist elitism really needs to go, it's hurting everybody including the poor clients. It’s a gimmick. Lots of tattoo artists do smaller tattoos for less money but how many people get tattoos while being blindfolded and not knowing what they’re getting.

@@Sarah-by6gp I still meant do the blindfolded 3 word description gimmick. Just have a set size for them or something. She said she wouldn’t raise the prices and do a better job. So keep the prices the same, and do a smaller job. Not that I think her skill would be better, it was probably an excuse, but at least it’s a smaller surface area to get covered up lol

As an artist, I'd say that the art itself doesn't look that bad, but after she acted like a complete child and admitting to rushing and justifying her permanently inking rushed images on a patient's body by using the prices that SHE SET as an excuse, all my empathy for her is gone

Let me provide some insight on this subject as an artist myself. I've been doing art for 12 years, I started in 2012. When you compare your art over the years, you can see a direct line of improvement and development. After 11 years, you would expect this girl's tattooing to be SO much better than it is. I don't know how she got ahold of a tattoo gun or the audacity to open a tattoo shop, but she needs to STOP.

13:07 I know it’s common place for a lot of preteens and teens to draw on their arms and other people’s arms. It would be really cool as promotional material if she used like an ink pen or something temporary, that’s too much stress for a kid because if she makes a big mistake the client is going to be upset at her

i got my first ever tattoo a few months ago, the artist hadn’t been working very long (i think he said 2-3 years), but his stuff is leagues and leagues ahead of this girl. he was kind, he worked with me closely to make sure it was something i wanted, and he even said he’ll give me free touch ups if i need them when he’s back in town next. such a genuinely cool guy and artist! i’m astonished that this girl hasn’t been sued yet holy shit lmao

Tattooing is part technique, and part skill. You can learn the techniques, but only few are truly born with the skill. One that has that natural skill is going to be way ahead of someone trying to force themselves into it. The fact she can’t apply better techniques at 11 years is incredibly sad. She either really doesn’t care - or is lacking some of those skills.

So not only did she not do any research into what Annabelle actually looked like but she just used the poster of the Billy puppet from Dead Silence as her actual source of inspiration. That is just mind boggling.

I think luckily with those masks, they stain very easily so it would be so disgusting looking that it would have to be thrown away. As a guy who has a sister, during the pandemic, the amount of dirty masks full of make up has lead me to that conclusion.
