The Stainless Steel Taurus M44 is 57oz of toxic masculinity at an affordable price and easy shooting with its ported, full lug barrel. Adjustable rear sight and the long barrel aid in some great accuracy and fun shootin'.

I have the 6.5 inch version of the M44 and the 4" version of the M66. I'm very impressed with both. I do find the grips to be comfortable, but would prefer them not quite so thin.

I have many handguns including 2 Smith 629's and a Ruger SRH. I bought a Taurus 3" 856 Defender 38 Special a couple years ago and was so impressed with it when I discovered the 6 shot M44 I had to have one to compare. I bought a 4" model for a woods gun when camping, great sights, ported barrel and factory tuned action sold me but the way it shoots was the icing on the cake. I carry Buffalo Bore heavy 44 for the woods but for general shooting I load a home cast powder coated Lee 210gr SWC-TL bullet with a cowboy load of Unique powder and I'm seeing just over 1000fps with the ported 4" barrel. At 50ft it groups just like your 8 3/8" model and it has to be the best bang for the buck out there. You can tell S&W and Taurus were owned by the same parent company, it's a faithful copy of my 629's but at less that half the cost with a few added goodies. Fit and finish is great but you can pick up a few machining marks if you look but they are hidden, like inside the crane but nothing that really stands out. I couldn't be more pleased with both Taurus's , it's even more accurate than my 629's and if it gets banged up in the field a little bit it's OK. I find myself carrying it more than any of my other revolvers.

I've had this gun for 7 years, after renting the SW 44 mag at the same range for ten years ( I couldn't afford to buy at the time).... I can shoot this one handed easily now. You can still feel some type of cheapness if you compare it to a Smith Wesson despite it was fabricated from the same machines, it's still reliable for me after 7-8 years. Proper care like you're supposed to do, I can shred out a bullseye with it

I just picked 1 up yesterday. The grip is a bit thin and was slipoery so i cleaned it up with alcohol, but still was a bit slippery so i got out an iron and stippled the whole grip. Much better now, but i will definitely be looking for a thicker grip. The only ammo i could get was PPU 300g sjsp. They were out of target ammo and 44 special. I had one of these for a while, it has good points and bad points. It is accurate powerful and reliable make no mistake I think it is a good revolver, For shooting metallic silhouettes this revolver is perfect. The problems are it is so big that if you can find a holster for it you still can't carry it comfortably. If you carry it in your hands you gradually get the idea you would be better off with a carbine (with a sling). I hunted for several years with mine and finally traded it off, going back to my .41 mag Ruger Blackhawk that has a 6 1/2 inch barrel and is easy to find holsters for and is comfortable to carry. As far as home defense goes it is long enough that a person trying to take it from you (you know; the assailant you didn't see) has a leverage advantage. A four inch version would work much better. Once again I owned one and got rid of it even though everyone I knew, and met at the range thought it was cool and it was a good gun it just proved to be impractical.

I do a little leather work too so the holster isn't a problem, but I agree, it's probably not the most practical! I own several guns that aren't "Practical" and I'm O.K. with that! Thanks, for watching!

Yes to speed loaders and a scope mount. However do not get the no tap no drill. Go with the WEIG-A-TINNY mount. You have to take your gun to a gunsmith but this one will hold its zore. The NO TAP NO DRILL Mounts have been know to break your top rail on the M44.

I'm sure there is a LITTLE increase in velocity because of the longer barrel and maybe a little less muzzle rise due to the increased weight but mostly, it's up to what you like. The shorter barrel would also be easier to conceal if that's what you want to use for personal protection.

.44 magnum is 44 caliber. Even though the bullet diameter is .429 its caliber designation is still 44.

I had an older one that was high polished. I shot a deer up the ass with it. The round destroyed the pelvis, took a large gouge out of the spine, and came to rest near the diaphragm. I have always regretted selling it. The guy I sold it to refuses to sell it back lol.
