Hey guy, so today we are gearing up for cropping!! Can’t believe it’s almost here 👍🏻👍🏻 Unfortunately today we had to do one of the worst mechanical repairs, replacing pick up tines on the Vermeer. Join us for some knuckle scraping fun in the sun!!!

😮may 11th 2011 is a day that will stick in my mind forever. That’s the day I started at 4 am by getting two barns of young cattle fed one with about 50 young heifer and then off to another barn on one of the other farms we owned to feed 25 young feeder steers. By that time it was daylight so off to spend 80 acres of corn ground with fertilizer once done with that it was time to finish feeding at a third farm where there were 100 or so bred snd breeding age replacement heifers that’s when my day took a turn. The self unloading forage wagon we used to haul haylage from a bunker silo up the road to the heifers started to not work correctly well in order to find out which gear was skipping you had to have the pto running while you looked in to the problem. That’s when things went really bad and I felt a tug on my shirt The pto shaft had grabbed it and it started pulling me in well after going around the shaft twice without somehow not hitting my head on the wagon younger. The shaft actually broke and there I laid flat on my back which all my clothes wrapped around my ankles mind you it was 40 degrees and raining with 35-40 mph winds so I had on long John’s blue jeans flannel shirt then carhart bibs with a heavy quilted shirt on over top like a jacket. And yes all layers wear around my ankle. I could tell my left leg was broken and my left arm had been twisted twice and laid flat on the ground I laid there yelling for help for over an hour and a half before someone found me. Once the EMS people arrived I told them everything that I knew was broke then the shot me up with something and I woke up 11 days later in ICU I had 7 surgeries in 2 days and they put me into a coma so that my broken body could start to heal. I had a punched left lung. Every rib on my left side was broken in 3 and 4 places they said my shoulder blade looked like jello. I have a rod from my shoulder to elbow and plates and screws from elbow to wrist. A severe biracial plexus injury and a rod from my left knee to ankle and 3 nerves pulled out from my spline. And very lucky to be alive. I spent 6 weeks in the hospital and months of therapy. I did lose the use of my left arm and hand. I’m only telling you this because of the job you do and love and wan5 you to be ever so careful because things can happen so quick. I would go back to working on the farm anytime. I sure miss driving tractor. Please be careful miss Taylor and please go to the junk or salvage yard and get a shield for that pto shaft on you haybine.

Great content Taylor!! Thank you all for sharing your journey!!! I like when it is time for the equipment to hit the field!!! But it is also time to be extra careful for your safety Taylor!! If the Kubota has a rear window in it , I would use it for baling . I never had an enclosed cab to bale , but with dusty hay sometimes I would have liked one!!! I guess I better stop "preaching" to you!! Lol!!!! God bless you!!!! Eddy. ( I usually do first cutting the first dry spell in June)

I appreciate that you go through equipment before you need it. I never understood people who wouldn't touch a piece of equipment until the day they wanted to use it, inevitably leading to delays. You were pretty contorted inside the baler. You get yourself in there and your nose itches but you can't scratch because you can no longer reach your nose. Great video Tay! Started "harvesting my first cutting hay" yesterday. This is pretty early for me. I usually don't mow my lawn for the first time until June! LOL!

Tay, the next time you have to work on the baler, you might want to play a game of Twister the night before. 😂 You were very wrapped up inside there! You both work well together. While you were inside the barn explaining how much you love the open air tractor, those two calves behind you were really stretching their necks to get to you.🐮 Have a great day, Taylor! 🏍🇺🇸🎒

Love the contortions needed to do some basic maintenance. I spent 40 years working on cars and had the sme problems getting to some of the places to do minor repairs. Love your new calf's. They are pretty. Spent some years doing the same thing you are doing. Lived on my uncle's farm in NY. I remember myuncle telling me to take care of the equipment because that is how we make money. Without good equipment, you have nothing to farm with. Berent seems like a great boss. You seem to like working for him. Good luck and God Bless

Hi Taylor, you and Brent accomplished a lot in this video getting you machines ready for the haying season. Two people can accomplish a lot when they both understand what needs to be done. You possess a great work ethic and mechanical skills. I am glad you didn’t get stuck in that machine and you managed to get out of there safely. In one of your past video’s you were working on an old truck. We’re you ever able to get it working? Your calves are growing nicely and I hope you keep showing their progress in your videos. Thanks again for another informative and entertaining video. Keep smiling.🙃

Hi Miss Taylor. Back to my farm accident story. It’s been 13 years since that terrible day. But I’m doing pretty well have learned to do a lot of things one handed. It’s just the chronic nerve pain that really sucks. And I am a great weatherman as I can tell a storm is coming at least 2-3 days ahead of anyone else even the weathermen on tv The greatest thing to come out of the whole thing is. As I lay there yelling for help. I had a jack knife in my pants pocket and figured that if I could cut my clothes off I could somehow crawl to my truck and get the 2nd cell phone that I had. Since the one I had In my shirt pocket was twisted into a U shape and the knife in my pocket I found out that the pants and pocket were twisted so tight that I could not even get my little finger into the pocket. Anyway as I laid there I started asking GOD to not let me die there alone and not let me say goodbye to my wife and kids and grandkids. Well I had lost a nephew to a car accident 4 years before and as I laid there praying that o God. All of a sudden my nephew was standing beside me. He said don’t worry uncle Mark this ou are going to be ok. GOD has more plans for you yet. Then he was gone. About 2 seconds later that knife in my pocket that was so tight and impossible to get to o all of a sudden it dropped right into my chest where I was able to get it open with my one hand and teeth and I started cutting my clothes loose and then that’s when I was finally found. I should say that for one. I never blacked out or lost consciousness the EMS people said that I was not in shock as I was to alert and had assessed all my injuries and told them everything that was wrong when they arrived. I was able to call them all by name How to each my wife and everything. So shock was ruled out. Then the other thing is you wonder how the knife dropped on my chest when I was flat on my back. Well my left leg that was broken was up over the wagon younger and then back over the PTO shaft. I was laying on the right side of tounge if looking at the front of wagon from back of tractor and my head was facing wagon so my left leg was crossed over me and over the tounge and then twisted back over the shaft and all my clothes were wrapped around my ankles that were both heightens my body. I don’t know if you are a believer or not. But GOD IS REAL and GOD IS GOOD BTW it was a Kubota 125 MX that I was using that morning. And they do not stall I’m just glad it was only at an idle. The way the shaft broke was that it is a solid square shaft inside a hollow square tube and one of the corners of the hollow tube cracked just enough so that the solid shaft was slipping Inside of it. I laid there listening to this cluck click click as the thing spun around and then every once in a while it would try to grab and start to pull on my leg and I would say PLEASE GOD. Don’t let it grab and take me for another ride. Anyway that’s the story of my farming accident. Mind you I grew up on a farm and then worked in a factory for 25 years where there was all kinds of rotating equipment and never once came close to getting hurt then when that place closed in 2001 I went to work for this fsrmer full time. I was 53 when I got hurt I’m 66 now. Take care Miss Taylor

That is an amazing story and truly a testament to the grace of God. You must be a very stong person mentally and physically to make it through that, especially recovery. Thank you so much for sharing your story, it reminds me to be careful in everything I do. Sometimes it’s the things you do every day and take for granted that end up being catastrophic. I’m just so sorry you had to endure all that pain. Sending you love and prayers of thanks for your survival. God bless!
