I just traded my Martin HD-28 even up for a 2012 one of these. I LOVE this thing. As a deep-voiced Americana singer/songwriter this thing matches me like no other instrument I’ve ever owned.

First time a Taylor brought tears to my eyes. Amazing.

I own two Taylor 8-string baritones (along with 5 other Taylor guitars) and one of them is always with me when I go out to play, mostly bluegrass/folk jams. While I would hesitate to recommend one as the only guitar you own because they're not right for every song, they are great for lower tones solo or for adding an additional voicing when playing along with someone playing a standard tuned guitar. Why two though? My first 8-string baritone was the Taylor 326e Baritone-8 LTD, a limited in 2017. While I still love the warm tone of the Tasmanian Blackwood / Mahogany, the small size doesn't give it much volume and it's better suited for plugged in or solo play. When Music Villa did a Custom Baritone-8 a few years ago as a Dreadnought with Indian Rosewood / Adirondack Spruce I added the second, which is the one I play acoustic in jams with many other players. It's not as warm, but it has the *punch* so that it can be heard. In fact, here's the MV video of *my* guitar: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnqqYmSBi5uVY5Y. The guys at Music Villa are great to work with, and the custom guitars they have built are all special.

I like watching Acoustic Letter very much from Japan. This Taylor 8 string baritones is so gorgeous, rich, and deep tone compared with an ordinary guitar. I can be relaxed and meditate with it. I found a Taylor 8 string baritones in Japan which has different wood tone. I do not think it has same atmosphere sound, but I wanna try. Many thanks for super cool performance!!

First thought: "Wow, I bet they could pull off a mandocello if they really wanted to." So obviously guitar isn't my main thing. ;) This is a really nice one, though.

I would convert it immediately to a Mandocello!! Just the nut and the saddle. String gauges should definitely be taken into account, I guess...

Bravo! That is such a magical instrument but that piece at the end was just perfect. I can’t stop listening to it. Is that a riff from a song or was that completely improvised?

What do you do when its time to buy new strings for this guitar? I'm assuming you can just use a regular set of 12 stings and discard the extra stings you don't need. I wouldn't think there's too many manufactures out there selling string sets specifically for 8 string guitars.

No- they come with Elixir’s and you can find them easily online or at most Taylor guitar shops. I prefer John Pearce Bronze as they are a little lighter in gauge and I add the .12 and .14 for the middle octave strings. I find it capo’s better and is even easier to play for a hack like me. 🤫. I also use a Thalio Capo with their harder insert and that works very well.

Not a Taylor fan....( great guitars, but too bright sounding to my ears) however. this guitar is a consideration. :-)

I feel the exact same way. I've played several Taylors and they just haven't connected with me. But this one is special. I played one for 5 minutes and bought it immediately. It's a fantastic instrument. Check out Thomas Leeb playing a 6 string baritone (not a Taylor) with a slide - kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3iqZ5WnZahknKM. Here's another amazing performance on a baritone with a slide - www.sandenguitars.com/jrb-b. Beautiful.
