Wow, I had no idea Taylor guitar necks were that easy to remove/adjust. I’ve always been a Martin fan, but I own a 1st year production run Baby Taylor. It’s built completely different, but bc also super easy to remove / shim the neck. Martin’s dovetail joint is really solid, but I can see the advantages of Taylor’s more modern design. On a side note, I love your shop, Scott. It’s so organized and you really seem to have every clamp, vice, tool, potion (glues, polishes, etc), that a luthier could ever need. So cool. Another great job, too! Thanks!

Thanks a lot. I realize now that this particular model was a little easier than the standard paper tag over the neck block models. It’s tricky to remove the paper tag without tearing it 😵💫

Another great job. I don't care for the Taylor sound much though. So I wouldn't own one, but I know a lot that do like their sound.

Some say epoxy not a good wood glue some would use tightbond what would you say great videos on guitar repair well done

Thank You 🙏 It seems like either is fine in this scenario although titebond is rather thick and this crack was very thin so you’d have to water it down which would compromise its strength.

So will they sell that set of shims to any repair person now? They weren't fun to play with back in the day. Beautiful work as always Scotty D.

Nice work Scotty. Do you know when Taylor started using the shim solution? I have a 1999 314 that's gonna need a neck reset soon.

Thank You 🙏 earlier in the 90’s perhaps. I think all of the El Cajon, CA production are bolt on

Lovely glue-up. Can I just ask, why epoxy and not Titebond? Is it just what Taylor recommends?

Taylor knows best. They’ve repaired hundreds of them. Thanks!

Did you get that service kit for free from Taylor? I think I heard somewhere that you could get shims for free if you own a Taylor guitar but i guess you wont get the whole set with tools and all.

They charged me for the kit. Give them a call! They have pretty good customer service
