This instrument is used mostly in Mexican music from the north of the country. Like someone said, Los Tigres del Norte, Intocable, los Cadetes de linares, Grupo Pesado, are some classic groups that used this instrument. Something more modern and that is currently trending a lot is Grupo Frontera. They also use this instrument.

The roots of this instrument go even deeper, way before these groups. Back then, it was just bajo sexto and accordion. A good example is the tiny desk concert of Flaco Jimenez and Max Baca. If you want to go down the rabbit hole, check out the Frontera collection so you can hear how the foundation of the genre was set.

I like Taylor guitars for building something different and better than the competition .

I’m a gibson player. Usually don’t have much of a taste for Taylors but I love this thing. The black with the double white pick guard is amazing.

Course, it would look perfect with a Gibson headstock.

This video is perfect for my bias towards Taylor Guitars, Flat caps, and Quinton's virtuosity. Thanks again for yet another enjoyable 7-minutes and 57-seconds,

Hell yeah. There’s a lot of great Mexican musicians that feature these. Los Tigres Del Norte, chalino Sanchez, intocable, some Vicente Fernández, Antonio Aguilar, just to name a few. These a pretty classic but there’s tons of bands

2:37 The Lowest string sounds like a Baritone Guitar which is reminiscent of the Baritone Guitars that Taylor used to make in batches.

“Jinetes en el cielo” by La Kumbre Con K has an amazing bajo quinto solo. Check it out!! It’s a Norteño version of “ghost riders in the sky” but this groups bajo quinto player is one of the best in the game in my opinion.

For me that top pickguard is a deal breaker, hopefully it can be removed without ruining the top. Sound wise not something for traditional conjunto music. But, for accordion/sax music it should pair up really nice. Kinda interested in checking one out.

Seems to us Andy (Powers) "Bajo Decimo" (or "Bajo Quinto y Decimo"?) would be more appropriate ;-) As always, great demo Doc, outstanding in fact with this Taylor.

Mexican bandas and norteños have a very aggressive guitar playing technique. It's supposed to sound raspy and in your face.
@BenjaminQuinto3597Ай бұрын
The instrument is only used for Norteño or Norteño Sax or as Texmex music if u wanna hear the powerful sound of it search up Max Baca he plays the original instrument called the Bajo Sexto

Why would they put someone who doesn’t know how to play it on the video?
@danpal67372 ай бұрын
why not, learn bajo quinto or bajo sexto or call a Mexican to do it right.
