Wow, I love how people are like "This can't be better because it's not the original!" Well, can you honestly say Tom Petty's version was better just because he sang it first? That doesn't mean anything. What happens if someone sang it better than Tom Petty? Not a major Taylie fan, but she has a sweet little voice and this is pretty adorable :) Glad you can hear the bassist in the mix, that's the part I've always loved to hum along to since I was a little kid. Good to see a "star" (as opposed to an Artist, stars have wider-ranging appeal) paying homage to the true talent her nation has been home to. Now, let's hear her cover an Offspring tune! Lil' Taylor would be lovable singing The Meaning of Life, or even Bad Habit (She is, after all, an American Girl!) :)

Taylor, I would seriously suggest a retake/remake of this song in the next few years akin to Roy O., John F. & others when they felt the need too. NO doubt to me that you have your HEART truly in this Petty song. Linda R. did a stupendous cover of 'The Waiting'. (However my fav of 'The Waiting' is the live perf. where Eddie V. does lead vocals). I'm not a uTube "junky" and there maybe others. It's not bad because it's slow or "not identical..." It's bad because her singing is devoid of soul and emotion, which Petty possessed when he sang it, regardless of what speed he played it at. You just can't feel the lyrics when Swift sings it. (in my opinion, maybe some people can) It's not even like Taylor Swift is a bad singer. She just didn't do a good job with this one.

I don't get it what the problem here is.
