When you have listened more to Taylor, you will see that she uses her beautiful lower register a lot these days.

to demonstrate another way that Taylor is an absolute genius …these three songs have exact timing parallels that are almost unbelievable… August @ 2:47 : "Get In The Car" Betty @ 2:47: "James Get In" ------------------------- Betty @ 3:15: "I'm here on your doorstep" Cardigan @ 3:15: "And you'd be standing in my front porch light"

My favorite line is “Tried to change the ending, Peter losing Wendy”. The use of Peter Pan imagery to describe men who just won’t grow up and meet her in the same place always hits a raw nerve. She does it again in the song Peter from The Tortured Poet’s Dept and it’s one of the best on the album.
@IzzyIzenstain2 ай бұрын
Looking forward to checking that one out!

I think you are referencing Peter, as the song that kind of connects, it's on her new album TTPD. It connects through the line "Peter losing Wendy". Peter is a song about giving up on the what if, realizing that you can't or shouldn't revisit that past love, because they didn't grow up like you assumed they would, or that they never valued you the way you did them.

@@IzzyIzenstainI want to say that “I Look In People’s Windows” is Peters perspective and tied back to Peter which ties back to Cardigan. We almost get another trilogy from Cardigan, Betty and August- Then Cardigan, Peter, I Look In People’s Windows. VERY curious to hear what you think about that theory.

Oh wow. Never thought of it from that perspective of an old woman reflecting back. To me, I was thinking of a woman in her 40s looking back. Not someone older than that. Interesting. Once you mentioned an older woman, another song of hers quickly came into view. Sounds like you're mentioning "Peter", from her recent album, The Tortured Poets Department. I think you should give it a listen. Awesome reaction Izzy ❤

I believe the song “Willow” is connected to this. What makes that initially apparent are the music videos. Now that you’ve listened to Cardigan, I recommend checking out the music video. It’s gorgeous and adds to the meaning of the lyrics. The music video to “Willow” seems to pick up where the “Cardigan” video leaves off. Also, it’s interesting that Taylor seems to like Peter Pan ( “Peter losing Wendy” as a Cardigan lyric), and she incorporates that Peter Pan reference in other songs as well. I really like your idea of Taylor’s lower register symbolizing older Betty and her regular singing voice representing younger Betty. Makes sense!

Thanks, Carolynne! I'll check that out.

Jaded grown woman here. "You put me on" is double in meaning given put me on was slang for being deceived or fooled. I don't" think Taylor wrote it with this layer of meaning given the possible inspiration, but in himdsight, it is dead on the mark. I never underestimate her lyrical trickster skills though. She may have written it as the wiser woman in meditation musing as to whether or not to let James back in the door. The answer, Betty, is - don't do it, Babes.😢

This song is connected to Betty and August - a young love triangle. Betty is from the boy James' POV. He is hoping to be forgiven for cheating on his gf Betty all summer. Mentions that he sees her standing in her cardigan. He says he'd kiss her on the front porch. Also getting picked up in her car matches August lyric "I said get in the car". August is from the other girls POV saying that they had a summer love and "you were never mine". Cardigan is the original girlfriend saying I knew you'd come back to me. Lyrics like "chase 2 girls lose the one". The chorus echoes the lyrics in Betty about being too young to understand (I was only 17 etc.). It also mentions standing in the front porch light. It's totally subjective of course, but I don't hear Lana in the song Cardigan.

Taylor and Lana are only a few years apart. They were starting in the industry around the same time. How can Taylor give Lana vibes when they’re almost the same age? Taylor is like a chameleon in her singing styles and can pull anything she wants to. To say it gives “Lana Del Ray vibes” is not giving Taylor enough credit to be her own person. Lana sings one way. Taylor sings about a dozen different ways. Idk. I just don’t think that’s giving her the credit she deserves for how this song is being performed. 🤷🏼♀️

It wasn't intended as a dis. There is a sound Lana is known for and that I'm familiar with. It's just a point of reference.

I don’t think it’s an insult. Lana and Taylor are friends and they have the same producer/collaborator. Does she sound like Lana or does Lana sound like Taylor? Who can say?
@greywaren6212 ай бұрын
Maybe sonically, but her enunciation doesn't begin to match Taylor's. Also, Taylor's singing straight notes in that key without vibrato, which is amazing.
