I used to skip this song until I heard her live version of it. It's such a good song and the lyrics are so deep

Yeah I always think of the rain as finally feeling the feelings and letting the tears out. After letting the feelings out, drowning in tears, she could finally breathe. I also hear morning as a double entendre. By morning - after crying all night, I got the pain all out. But also, by mourning - by grieving what's gone, I'm finally over it and can move on.

And it's track 5, not 13, even tho track 13 might be sometimes also really important to her since it's her favourite number

This is my fav song. I even created a tattoo idea for it (which started a whole series of them haha) which I want to get someday. I really love how you can take it in so many ways. Yeah, Taylor here ment it in like missing that person and then time passing realizing you're okay situation, but you can also see it in a literal addiciton way, and then also in the way she used it at Reputation Stadium Tour after she talked abou ther sexual assault trial. She also said about the song besides what you already saw that she had in her head this metaphor that there's like this house where's been a drought and you feel like storm is coming, but instead of hiding from the rain, you punch a hole in the celing and the water washes away everything that used to hurt you...and then you're clean. SHe talked about it in this video, it's like the first 4 minutes, she even shows some videos how Imogen did some of the production and she also shows her voice message she sent to Imogen...she does that with several song from 1989. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2GqopV3bM1_ea8

I always thought this song was about the early struggles with her label like not trusting her with the direction her sound was going and then also her expressing desire to own her work and basically being ignored. Butterflies were on her first album cover so them turning to dust to me was the dissolution of the good ol days of them together and the flowers they grew together was the success and growth of scotts label because of her success. But now im thinking this was written too early. The parallels are there though.

Interesting! I always just assumed it was about the end of her relationship with Harry Styles. But yeah, on her later albums, I do think a lot of the songs are metaphors for her relationship with her old label and her music.
