I didn't notice how she carried the alien encounter metaphor throughout the entire song, and at the bridge and outro where the production gets higher and wavy, is probably meant to sound like a spaceship. Thanks for reacting, guys. Enjoyed it.

4:50 I think she's actually comparing the whole "him" experience with an Alien kind of experience, you know, when someone said they wrre alone in the middle of some field in the middle of nowhere and when they talk about it with the rest, people mark that person "oh they crazy", so they don't talk about it at all. It's just they (her) experience to live with.

The lyrics are metaphorical to being abducted by an alien, hence the reference to staring at the sky come back and pick me up… the very first few lines of the song speak of being experimented on.

another about matty healy, she makes this analogy of an alien love because well, he's quite peculiar lol. "indecent exposures" are the best words to describe him. he really took her out of the box, out of the type she was used to, he has very indecent attitudes in his shows and in pubs in general. at the same time, when it comes to art, they have this poetry that is very artistically sparse (like i lost my twin). "they'll say I'm nuts if I talk about the existence of you" brings this alien analogy, which when put into reality is because people received her relationship with him VERY bad in 2014 and in 2023, as she mentions in several songs on this album

Yes! Also, Matty basically love-bombed her, then ghosted her. So she felt like she'd been given a window into this happy life with him and then just got dropped. She's comparing that experience to an alien abduction. She also had a 10-year-long flirtation with him on and off before they dated, so it's not like it was just a rebound. She had years of held-back emotions to finally date him, and then have him back out on her.

Taylor made a small clip on Apple music comparing her experience to an alien abduction. In her album, she included a summary poem explaining a manic experience due to many different factors and this man was part of it. The pentulance is the tantrum she had after he swept her away then ghosted her. This was a heartbreaking poem which you may want to read.

I love this song. Am I the only one so shocked that so little number of songs after 6 years together with Joe resulted in such a little amount of sad songs? Is it because they will always have a business relationship or because the relationship had been dying slowly for years? I wish Taylor true forever love and happiness.

Yes, they died a slow mutual death and…she really only writes these types of songs when someone wrongs her. Joe was unremarkable.

I think he will still be her muse as a character for certain feelings. She has something good now and hope she gets to be in that good vibe. but processing such a deep and complicated relationship takes years. Maybe part of her superpower really is being able to get on with your life.. And she "did her time" and "You can be sure, That as she was leaving, It felt like freedom" I honestly think that at this point in her life with all her experience it's all fuel within her to create. I think she can be a great movie director, writer, etc. And the pain and the stories are all in there too.

alwyn-she was with him for 6 fuckin yrs! They broke up just before the tour started. So she was very sad at the start of the tour. Then Taylor rebounded off that greaseball, Matty Healy. I'm SO grateful you guys made it clear that the heartbreak and truth of those words would just SLAY you. So many women think that the best 'revenge' is going cold. But it's not. It's a wide open heart screaming 'THIS HURTS' in all it's truth. Not to punish, not to close down, not to sling insults... just showing your pain. That's what speaks to a mans heart (if he's sane). So that was awesome for you to share. But also no, I don't think Matty is torn up. From what I've learned/observed he SEEMS like an actual narcissist who lovebombed her and isn't really capable of the kind of connection that stable people are. But that's also why this album is so beautifully unhinged. Because narcissistic abuse DOES that to people. It takes us to the moon and then crashes. It hits deeper and harder than a REAL relationship, which is just crazy, but it's how it is because it relies on and plays off of all of our trauma, fears etc. So it makes sense that the most intense poetry comes from a shorter trip to the moon.
