The piano player is Aaron Dessner, it’s actually his studio (Long Pond Studio) on his property in upstate New York. That’s where he produced most of folklore remotely from! He also has a band with Justin Vernon (aka Bon Iver) called Big Red Machine and he is also a member of the band The National.

I enjoy hearing your discussion about the music! One thing that really struck me with this song in watching the whole “long pond studio sessions” on Disney was the symbolism of “exile.” Bon Iver was not at long pond but rather home in Wisconsin. And seeing them “exiled” from each other performing this song just hit me at another level and magnified the impact of the song almost. If that makes sense.

Exile is beautiful, it depicts a story, it allows people to feel something and resonates with it, it’s poetry, it’s art, there are depths to it. And watching the long pond session, you see emotions in their performance, and it sparks emotions in audience too. This is something I love most about Taylor, there’s always emotions in her performances.

Taylor and Justin both sing basically the same lines and melodies in the original album track, but it is coupled with much more production. For example, their voices are often doubled or more. At one point in the album track it sounds like a whole choir singing. Their vocalizing in harmony at the very end is buried under a string arrangement. That's why you didn't remember it. It's there, but down in the mix. The original is still a great record, but I find this simple arrangement to be much purer and more impactful. Besides their voices, I love the sound of the final piano chord ringing out and decaying at the end. It reminds me of the end of “A Day in the Life” on the Sgt. Pepper album.
