This is what Taylor wrote on why she titled the album fearless. I think it really fits and captures the album :) “This album is called Fearless, and I guess I'd like to clarify why we chose that as the title. To me, Fearless is not the absence of fear. It's not being completely unafraid. To me, Fearless is having fears, Fearless is having doubts. Lots of them. To me, Fearless is living in spite of those things that scare you to death. Fearless is falling madly in love again, even though you've been hurt before. Fearless is walking into your freshman year of high school at fifteen. Fearless is getting back up and fighting for what you want over and over again... even though every time you've tried before, you've lost. It's Fearless to have faith that someday things will change. Fearless is having the courage to say goodbye to someone who only hurts you, even though you can't breathe without them. I think it's Fearless to fall for your best friend, even though he's in love with someone else. And when someone apologizes to you enough times for things they'll never stop doing, I think it's Fearless to stop believing them. It's Fearless to say "you're NOT sorry". I think loving someone despite what people think is Fearless. I think allowing yourself to cry on the bathroom floor is Fearless. Letting go is Fearless. Then, moving on and being alright... Taylor's choice of picking lead single is a misnomer. She picks a song that don't really give the entire vibe or what the whole album is all about. And she picks oftentimes the weaker songs instead those fan favorites as singles. People who only listens to singles rather than entire album finds it hard resonating with Taylor. She create incredible albums and her single choices makes sense if you would listen to it with the rest of the album.

I see where you are coming from, but every single lead single works perfectly as what it is meant to do. While songs like LWYMMD and ME! are some of my least favourite songs on their respectively albums, they are the perfect lead singles. Taylor has never chosen the lead single as "This is what this album is like", it has always been "This is how this album is something new". ME! is the perfect lead single for Lover as it is the furthest you can get from reputation. WANEGBT was the lead for RED because it shows how she's not wanting to stay in a box, but instead experimental with sounds for RED.

LWYMMD is a perfect lead single, not my fav, but it is maybe her most perfect lead. Shake it Off, perfect Lead single. WANEGBT and ME! are both great lead singles (even though I hate ME!). Love Story was the lead single here and I don’t see how anyone could complain about that, it’s her biggest hit and propelled her into superstardom. With such a strong lead single on her 2nd album, it got people paying attention to this album and creating a ton of buzz, which is what her sophomore album needed. Now, Taylor doesn’t need buzz, a strong opener, she can open with a weaker song ;ME!) and she’s still going to sell and still going to be #1. Her choice of singles baffles me. I’m new to Taylor so I didn’t know this about her, I had only heard songs on radio. Then I started listening to her albums and I was surprised at the quality of songs on the album that were not singles. It’s amazing. But..... it’s worked for her so far so...!!! The role of the opening track is to set the vibe for the album. Which in general I think she has done a good job of that with her albums. A weak opening track is on Lover, but it’s still not bad. Welcome to NY maybe is weak, but IMO it perfectly captures the time in her life as she had moved to NY, and it’s a dual meaning right? A new soundtrack I can dance to this beat.... yes a new album and sound but secondly what’s going on in her life. NY IS a new soundtrack from Nashville and she can dance to this excitement and big city of NY. Both symbolizes her moving in new direction. It’s viewed as a weak album opener, but I think it’s perfect. The best of course is Ready for It?, can’t beat that opener. I’d even argue it’s the best opener of any album.

Hey Stephen is about Stephen Barker Liles lol, he was in a band called Love and Theft and they opened for Taylor back then. When Fearless came out she sent him a message or called him, I don’t remember exactly, and told him to check out track 5. Basically she had a crush on him and she said everything she couldn’t tell him in person through the song. It turned out he had a crush on her the whole time too and he actually also wrote a song about her, it was never put into a record though. He’s married with kids now.

Last night was “the best day”!! There is really something special about listening to a song for the first time while already knowing the lyrics!!! My personal favorites of the re-recording were Fearless, 15, Hey Stephen, TELL ME WHY, You’re not Sorry, TWILY, Forever and Always and CHANGEEEE. So actually all of them! The Way I Loved You is about 2 different relationships. The one that she currently is in is great, because he is polite and everything that someone would want on paper. On her first 4 albums she had bandmates (usually a male) harmonising with her. When she did re-recordings, her bandmates recorded their harmonies again. That's why you could hear a male voice in the background from time to time but there was no feature in the title.
