Your reaction to champagne problems is literally the best thing ever! Don’t beat yourself up too bad for not catching every lyric or reference the first listen through. It’s impossible to fully understand any album the first listen through, especially a Taylor album! But I respect all of your effort trying to.
@justinejulia68733 жыл бұрын
I loved it! The two references I think he got confused on or missed were the picture in the wallet being first Taylor then the next girlfriend just as a symbol of the relationship and then evergreen our group of friends just refers to how plants/nature is thriving and in full bloom when it is evergreen and how they won’t say that again as in they won’t be able to say that they have the group of friends anymore. There also is a full circle aspect between All Too Well and Champagne Problems where in All Too Well she says “maybe this thing was a masterpiece before you tore it all up” and in Champagne Problems she says “she’ll fix up your tapestry that I shred” I did laugh and go “awe baby no” when he thought she was going to announce being married and the song was about her turning down a proposal so I was waiting for him to realize the song didn’t end happy 😂

“Coney Island” references all of her important exes: Jake Gyllenhaal: “were you standing in the hall way with a big cake, happy birthday” The moment I knew: “and they’re all standing around me singing, Happy Birthday to you” talking about him missing her birthday party John Mayer: “did I paint your blue skies the darkest gray” Dear John: “you paint me a blue sky then go back and turn it to rain” Harry Styles: “and when I got into the accident” Out of the woods: “remember when you hit the brakes too soon, twenty stitches in the hospital room.” Talking about an accident that her and him got into on a snowmobile. Calvin Harris: “but when I walked up to the podium I think that I forgot to say your name.” There’s not really a song to reference this specific moment, but Calvin Harris didn’t announce that Taylor Swift helped write “This is what you came for” and I’m pretty sure he won some kind of an award for that

Another theory I like is this: We know James, Betty, and Inez all went to same school (possibly friends) and I feel like it’s probable this song is Betty or Inez signing to a best friend they kind of lost to the fame journey. Something I really like (a lot of people think this song is kind of about Selena, and I can see how they think that but I disagree): if anything, I think this might an ode to her oldest ‘hometown’ friend, Abigail. (Now again, the problem with this is similar to the Selena theory: she’s still great friends with both of them. But just going off the theme, I think Abigail is more likely than Selena; as in, capturing the gratitude of a friend she can always come back to, one from her childhood, who she can turn to, who’s known her before she became famous). All this is, of course, considering this isnt just another made-up folklore!

The bridge on champagne problems.......... A TRUE MASTERPIECE
@lindseysquire84174 жыл бұрын
- folklore was in black in white, but evermore is in screaming color - champagne problems sounds like the lovechild of New Year's Day and Back to December - no body, no crime is the sickest song I've ever heard - marjorie was beautiful and reminded me of my own grandmother, who passed away when I was eight years old - in coney island, she totally references Dear John and Out of the Woods - of course Joe co-wrote some of the best songs on the album; we would expect nothing less - The National, Bon Iver, AND Haim? I think that's the most features of any single album she's ever done - in happiness, she references The Great Gatsby twice: "I hope she'll be a beautiful fool", which is a direct quote from Daisy Buchanan, and "the green light of forgiveness", because a green light is the most famous piece of symbolism from the novel

Taylor has been artistic like this for years. Joe’s coming into her life is obviously a blessing, but folklore and evermore being released has nothing to do with it. She simply switched genres again, and folk/alternative music is usually story based and focuses on the narrative. That’s why some of you think she’s showing crazy improvement in something, when, in fact, it has always been there. It’s just not smart to release a pop album with such intense metaphors and deep lyrics. He’s helped her through a lot, but let’s not credit Joe for her work and artist growth.

This is a hot take, and would love to hear your opinions on this. I know this album has only even been out for a short time, and do not want to compare the 2, but I like Evermore much more than Folklore, and I did not think that was possible. This album just hits me, let me know your thoughts! Follow me on twitter also, I tweet a lot! Twitter.com/EpochKZbin

I think i like them both equally actually! They're masterpieces with no skips for me and both are very cool for different reasons. I loved piecing all the clues together on Folklore and the lyrics on it got to me a little more but I love that she's even a bit more experimental with her sounds on Evermore and also loved her storytelling in the songs. Maybe folklore was just a but more cohesive as a story overall to me. I really love this new direction she's taking and I'm super happy with her music! Also I'm definitely all for this being a triology cause I do love the vibe and would definitely love some more of this particular sound!

Same! I ADORED folklore, but evermore just clicked with me in a way nothing has since reputation. Especially no body, no crime and marjorie, but I also loved cowboy like me (though maybe I'm biased, because I'm from the southwest and I miss it there).

The way you analyze the songs makes me appreciate them so much more!! I really loved champagne problems before this but now I see it as a masterpiece because of you!! We clearly listen to music very differently and that’s why I love your reactions so much!! Also Happiness was wrote LAST WEEK!! isn’t that crazy!

thank you for giving so much love to marjorie, it's also one of my faves from the album. and i'm amazed how much you picked up witout knowing the context! marjorie is actually her late grandmother who she was really close to. and it's her singing those bits at the end, like a sample. she was a really famous opera singer back in the day (marjorie finlay)

hope you read this. So champagne problems is basically a song about a "turned down wedding proposal" and the lines "your heart was glass i dropped it" and "my picture in your wallet" show that..and in the end when it changes to "her picture in your wallet", it's trying to say that after she turned down the proposal, he found somebody new who "patched up the tapestry" and stuff
@kushmithavenkatesh12504 жыл бұрын
'My picture in your wallet' is a way to show that she was the one for him like how men used to keep the photos of their spouses/lover's photo in their wallet but when she rejects his proposal he is heartbroken. The last time she mentions it "her picture in your wallet' states how he moved on. Its is just like the story of Jo and Laurie in 'The Little Women'.

The Picture Thing. Before the days of cell phones, wallets had (sometimes very large) plastic sections for holding driver's licenses, id cards, and film photographs. People dating/engaged/married ALWAYS had a dozen or so pictures (portraits, wedding shots, kid photos, etc.)in their wallet. Not a picture of Mom, a picture of the wife-to-be. Evergreen (wreaths?) + Deck the Halls= Christmas (a champagne holiday party)
