The Grammys's performance of this song is so iconic, because she changed the lyrics in the last chorus saying "someday I'll be singing this at the Grammys" which just soooooo iconic, I even have like the urge everytime I hear this song to sing that version, from the Grammys. "Mean" was written after a particularly savage review of one of her early concerts. Swift was like 18 or 19 when she wrote this song, and the critic was a middle-aged guy from a small town newspaper.

She wrote this song about one critic who in 2009/2010 was really harsh on her, he didn't even give any real constructive criticism, he just straight up decided a teenager will be his enemy and started attacking her for nothing and all he was was mean. Taylor performed at the Grammys in 2010 and it wasn't her best performance, she performed You Belong With Me with Stevie Nicks (who has completely different style of singing) and it was also in completely different arrangement she wasn't used to. It wasn't that bad, but this critic spoke complete shit about it, he said Taylor can't sing and stuff like she's talentless and bla bla bla. This was probably the day Mean was born. By the way 2 years later Taylor performed Mean at the Grammys and in performance she changed lyrics and she sang ''someday I'll be singing this at the Grammys''. She also won 2 Grammys for this song. You would think that after she called him mean lonely pathetic liar and loser in a song that he got some sense, but no. Still until this day 13 years later he's still writing shit about her. So Taylor was right, she became best selling, most-streamed global phenomenon superstar who is every other day breaking another record and all he ever will be is mean loser.
