I think Scene Mode for Quad Cortex works on one preset so you have to add everything to that preset and turn things or groups of things on or off. For TMP you can toggle between completely different presets with no delay and you can have different presets with different settings. I think both solve the problem but they are a bit different.

Taylor, you fucking rock bro!!!! Thank you for covering seamless switching on the effect units. To start with the features of the fender just strait take the win for me. As well as the seamless switching being massively important to me. The tone however I think goes to the quad cortex. At this point if I were to have to choose between the two I think I’d go tone master pro. Which surprises me. Usually tone takes the win but that seamless switching really matters. Like a lot. The other thing about the tone master pro that I think could be a saving grace is, it’s still a baby. Future updates are likely going to bring some game changing features and tone updates. I do also like the visuals of the tone master. I just really hope they update the tones in it.

Tone Master pro has no capturing ability and nothing on Bass. That is why I went with the Quad Cortex. I had the Helix floor for years and gigged with it every weekend. Once I ditched my amps and when direct, the quad cortex was the best sounding device and beat out my helix direct. But I fill in all the time on Bass so no matter which pedal I use it has to do both. This was a huge omission from Fender, all my basses are fender brand so I was disappointed they didn't have anything for bass on this.

Personally I prefer the high end of the qc that is present on most of the models. I feel like it’s made to play live and most settings are set pretty much where you add it and it is gig ready. When I play the qc live I constantly get compliments about tone vs other units I’ve used and units other guitarist use. Everyone has roughly the same comment, “it’s like you have a tone more tone, in a good way”

I have both and own both, I alternate them per gigs, they’re equally as good. I gig every weekend and they both sound fantastic, feel, etc… both FOH and IEM. Both are a keeper… The only advantage of the QC is size and weight, the disadvantage of the QC is the wallwart type power supply NO IEC…

Great job thanks for your work. Fender Tone Master sounds best to my ears. Question: Have you ever tried the ISP Technologies - Theta Pro DSP guitar effects processor? I have been using guitar effects processors for 17 years. Owned many but my go to for Pure Tone for me since 2018 is the Theta Pro DSP. This unit has a Pre & Post EQ which allows fine tuning to acheive desired tone. My setup is stereo XLR out to FOH, 2 mission engineering pedals (Volume & Wah), Parker Fly Deluxe guitar (rewired front pickup to single coil). I have received many compliments during live gigs being I don't use an amp on stage. Theta Pro has their signature decimator circuit in this unit as well to transparently eliminate any 60hz hum from a single coil. I play Rock, Pop, Funk, Disco, Ballads, etc in a weekend working band and the Theta Pro covers it all. Very interested in your thoughts on the Theta Pro DSP.

It seems like each new gen of modelers sets the basic EQ to a more sensible default. The older the modeler the more tweaking and EQing you need to get what you want and a more real amp sound. My helix can get any sound I want but sometimes I have to really tweak it and do a little reading on frequencies and EQ. Same as my headrush mx5.

a question about something that no one seems to cover...as a live musician, how do the footswitches compare? A mate has the QC & the footswitches are just to damm close, trying to switch things off & on in the heat of battle is a nightmare. I've lost count of the number of times he's hit the wrong switch onstage. I've played it, & damm it's not good. You just wanna hit the switch on auto pilot, not have to tap around like a ballerina, esp while wearing boots. That & the propriety power cable make the QC an automatic no go for me...but dam, it does sound incredible, just not the most practical for gigging. So, how does the TMP compare to the QC in this regard?

These things are created for players WAY "better" than us chugging high gain metal players. Dudes that use multiple effects and patches in one song. But I do love that more and more normal guitarists are using these tools. Not everyone wants to lug around heavy ass amps. Both of those are badass. I'm using a Tonex pedal into a Seymour Duncan PS200 and it sounds perfect for my dumbass.

You earned a comment on this one! Great video.. I’ve been eyeing these machines for way too long, and I need to make a decision. I favor the Neural content, with some of the plugins that I own for studio work, so the QC looks very enticing. I own several actual 5150 amps, and walking away from them feels risky so you are covering the type of content that is really helpful for me. Also.. some of your chugging riffs here makes it sound like you are a Crowbar fan.. maybe you aren’t, but you got my attention.. HA

Something other than death metal playing would be nice, but thanks for putting this comparison together; very insightful. I think the Fender MAY (Fender is not famous for supporting products they tend to abandon) come out with some updates that would make it more comparable to the QC's features. The QC seems a bit small for me, being that I sing in my band and need to look down and see the buttons clearly! It seems that the Fender has the buttons bigger and more spread apart or is that an illusion I see? Thanks!

Great comparison :) For me both sound great but the option to capture a snapshot of your amplifier just does it for me The Uberschall is a little weird to dial in. The treble knob acts like a prescence knob, the mid knob like a treble knob and the presence knob more like a … mid contour knob? I guess It’s „normal“ on the Überschall I guess 😅 But I love mine, and you get used to it really quickly

One area that I really found to be lacking for this unit are the built in cabinets while playing very high gain. After investing some time in effort into importing 256 impulse responses I am quite happy. I have imported roughly fifty different bass amplifier cabinets into the mix which has allowed me to use my bass a lot more, Typically using either the studio or tube preamp. I would love to see fender add some pedals thare are geared towards metal, like the horizon precision drive etc. I find myself using the real version of this pedal front of my signal as i'm not a huge fan of the built in options. If fender continues to support this product, i'm going to be in it for the long haul. If we hear crickets and nothing else gets released I will be big sad.

Awesome video man! Question for you. In the story mode of the QC is it possible to assign different amps to different foot switches with different layers of overdrive, gain stages + effects? Is there a noise gate on the QC? So basically if I’m playing live and one part of the song completely changes distortion tone + effects can I get that by hitting one button like on a switcher? And is this switching transparent with no lag in story mode on the QC?
@Jason-Taylor5 ай бұрын
Yes, the QC has a “Scene” mode that allows you to add everything you need in a preset (amps, cabs and effects) and assign different parameter settings for those blocks to the footswitches. So for instance, you could have an amp block with the Gain set at 4 assigned to one switch and have that same amp’s Gain set to 8 on another footswitch and so on. Also, using scene mode gives you seamless switching on the QC. This goes for essentially all the parameters of amps particular amp or effect. You also have multiple amps and effects and assign combinations of them to different switches so that hitting a single footswitch could turn on an overdrive and delay with a specific amp and cab. And yes, there is a noise gate built into the Input block of the QC as well as a separate Gate block that you can place anywhere in the signal chain with different types of gates.

Yeah… That being said, Tone wars has a good review on the tone master. From what I recall, he said the setting from the real amp, are totally different than what you dial in at on the Fender. Also, he said so far, the easiest way (he has found) to duplicate a preset is to save the preset, dial it in, then resave the same preset to another bank and turn on/off or change whatever without having to go through the entire process again. But so far take that with a grain of salt. I’m still learning string names 😅

I even expressed my displeasure with this to Fender when I shared some feedback, and they in fact did not argue my point. (They actually made no comment concerning the issue, so I'm still left wondering). Anyway, I would LOVE to be wrong about this, because I'd really like to make use of all 10 switches as I see fit. NDSP seems to have a functional unit but at the same time it's starting to look pretty dated already and your upcoming comparison... whatever that may be will make both of these look silly. I just hope it sounds really good but I feel like it will... Stay tuned everyone!

Wait, people really have money to buy these?? I mean i know i'm poor af, but god damn. I buy food rather than almost 2000 dollars effect device. If I buy effect pedal at some point, a 200-300 dollar device will be enough for me. And just at the moment, plugins are more than enough.

Wait you can afford guitars and a computer??

@@QuickSticks8771 Was going to say the same thing. 300 dollars is barely enough to get you a beginner guitar now.

Just get a better job or save up. I'm on a monthly payment plan for my Quad Cortex and I love it. Slightly over 200 a month and I get to play with dozens of amps as well as capture any amp. Plug my quad cortex into my Orange 4x12 and it sounds massive.

Quad Cortex doesn’t have a switching gap, you’re using it in the wrong mode. Try it in scene mode - it’s fantastic.

The tone master doesn’t sound that good to me

The Tone Master destroys the Quad to me… You say “sheen”…I say “battered coating”. The Fender sounds way more amp-like imho.

That's another way to say it for sure lol. But there's definitely something going on. Hard to capture on video, but in person it's almost artificially enhanced or something.

Just to throw in a bomb in such a sensitive tone snob audience: Headrush prime Now, if you excuse me, I'll be running for my life now 😜🤣

Why? That's a valid contender IMO!

Headrush stuff is definitely in that game. I've tried most modellers and Headrush just might be my favourite. Needs good impulse responses though

@@TaylorDanley The headrush does have one thing the other units don't have............... It actually does go to 11 🤣

Thanks for the demo. Unfortunately those are tones I would never use. So its hard to say this was a useful demo. Thanks anyway.

Fender put the cart before the horse, they should have come out first with a Tone Master non pro modeler for a price between $600-$800 and then come out with the Tone Master Pro for between $1000-$1200,yes both units are overpriced! In a few years there will be cheaper modelers that sound as good with touch screens plus capturing for less than half the price of these units!
