WhatNot, Goodwill Outlets, and Wholesale are examples of how you could get more items at a cheaper price. I am not a hater, and I don't want to bash anyone it's just my opinion. Hi Sean, I enjoy your videos and commend you for being agile and making a change. In business, you have to be aware of the environment and a business model that once worked will stop working at some point. Anyway, I work in Finance full time but love having a small reselling business where I can practice learned biz principles at low risk. I've looked at reselling at all angles and here are the challenges. If you hire consulting firm to analyze your business, they'll ask you to do a SWOT analysis. Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats. Unfortunately, most resellers are experiencing a decline in these factors due to increased competition, higher COGS and inability to differentiate (everyone does the same thing and buys the same stuff they hear on YT). Also, this business is impossible to scale so growth is limited. My conclusion is it's a great thing to do on the side and for extra money but to rely on it to make a decent living is not feasible.
@abyssal59483 ай бұрын
One thing I remember about your videos is you commute like 2 hours to source? If that's the case then there is your problem right there. I don't hit a place more than 1 hour away and drive a used prius. Also I watch your sourcing videos while I source to learn for myself and I feel like you're missing a lot of things because you only pick up the same stuff and some things sell for WAY less than you say they will. Personally I've been netting way over 100k a year focusing on higher quality and lower volume, also some flea markets and people set things aside for me now at them. I am getting sick of hearing "Prices at the thrift are increasing so I just can't make as much money". Bro, if you have more knowledge than the thrift stores and other resellers, you will dominate. I can't count how many times I have found 50$+ profit items priced like every other short sleeve shirt. It's all about learning, learning, and learning.

So many resellers start dabbling in other things but what happens is they become a Jack of all trades and master of none. This usually occurs after giving away all the valuable trade secrets and the content (and inventory) dries up. Its like giving away all your oars and the boat starts sinking Lol. Im 20+ years into ebay and I will never give away my trade secrets for a few KZbin pennies. I've seen so many come and go and so very few get big and be able to stick around. Most of them end up treating resellers the same way ebay treats resellers by starting memberships and patreons and classes= FEES. We become the profit centers when the selling dries up. "The only people who make money at the Antique Malls are the ones charging the sellers monthly rent" type of thing. Maybe its time for everyone to go about their business and keep themselves to themselves (old Irish saying lol). Best of luck whatever you do but try to pick one thing and do it reallllly well 😉 You dont wanna be all hat and no cattle...

In my opinion, I see you're growing significantly as a business owner. It doesn't make sense for you to work harder making good income when you can work less and make a better income. You're a bright guy. You've taught me so much about being a clothing reseller. It's not for everyone for sure, unless you pay to play (invest a lot in inventory) or are just super good at it, it's hard work. It can be a great hustle for being able to work from home, especially when having kids and need a flexible schedule. I've served in Iraq, worked as a correctional officer for 10 years, transitioned to a full time stay at home mom, and now with kids at school full time, this is is my hustle. Full transparency, I don't follow you super closely but I have enjoyed your videos over the last year or so. I appreciate your sharing. One recurring thought I had early on watching your videos was you didn't seem to have super strong sources for inventory with strong margins- and did wonder if your business would be sustainble- sounds like you've been adjusting as needed, so good on you for that. One question I think may be helpful for any reseller to ask themselves before committing to a niche is- do I have an unfair advantage? Or, am I uniquely suited for this? Since you brought up Tech, I'll use him as an example- he says he never WANTED to go into clothing- he chose clothing because he realized it was the lowest hanging fruit for him. Anyways, keep up the good work and I hope you find a good groove.
@TaylorExchange3 ай бұрын
Well thank you for tuning in. I agree with the sourcing tip. I felt I had the knowledge and drive to make the long sourcing trip work but others quickly caught up in skill. It isn't about the margins it is about the dollar amount. Margins matter, and more so when you're starting out. Would you rather buy a car for 9k and sell it for 10k(10% margin) or buy a ps2 game for $50 and sell for $100(50% margin)? Doesn't matter what the items are I'm just saying random items before people get technical like "Well you know a car can have a lot wrong with it" I know.. That isnt the point. I can buy 5 50 dollar items and flip em for double making 50 off each item and make 250 in 1 day or I can buy 2 300 dollar collections and make 600 in one day with the exact same margin. It is about quality, not quantity. More specifically quality but more consistently(is the goal).

Dude the 2.5 hr drive to source is downright wild. Imagine the people that live in the immediate area of those stores you’re driving to. They can hit the stores everyday for 2 weeks and spend less time driving than you spend driving one day. That gives them way more chances to find higher quality new items. Those people are the ones this side hustle is great for. So easy for them to get 25 items per day in 2 hours, list for 2 hours, ship for 1 hour. 5 hours per day 100k profit for year. Side note: next great opportunity you find don’t get online and tell everyone else how to do it. I get that you can potentially make exponentially more money assuming you get a large audience etc etc but you could just put your head down and go super hard at the actual opportunity for 5 years and retire and not have to find a new opp because of overcrowding.
@remycalypso61773 ай бұрын
Or just move to the city you source from, hit the thrifts daily, discourage the competition into thinking there are no good items at the stores cuz you’re taking them all each morn, list like 75 items per day and then get out while the opportunity is still there

I drive 2 hours once a week to get enough items for one week. D.C. is bigger than my city and the thrift stores are massive. Hey Sean. Good idea for video content - i.e. your reading/ weighing in on some of the thread comments from your last installment. I really, really think that a LOT depends on Nov. 5th. Most folks are aware, to some degree, that there’s a HUGE undercurrent of instability, uncertainty, and desperate volatility in the country going into the Fall. The experts are forecasting, predicting (the ones we regularly follow, anyway) that 11/5 - IF the election even occurs - plays THE most crucial role in how things will play out going forward. The folks we pay close attention to say, as a collective, that neither side will accept the results of the Presidential election. One guy even thinks this could very well be our last (!). Civil war, breakup of the nation, etc, is a prediction high on the list of most. Pretty disheartening! We live in a time both exciting, but also extremely frightening. Selling used clothes to pay the bills has now become a pretty tenuous and exhausting pastime, with dwindling rewards. So, reading the tea-leaves and then acting appropriately on that analysis is a pretty wise endeavor…

You are actually one that made me start selling close on Ebay over a year ago! I have noticed your pictures aren't as good as they used to be. The way it s folding is weird. Also your items kind of sucks! I feel like you quit 6 months ago! Keep working hard man you have potential!

Yikes, I will not tell Randi you said this about her photos 😂 Yes, about six months ago I started developing another couple businesses. Just trying to see which one will rise to the top. eBay is still a good money maker. Having none public stores is a good strategy as well.

@@TaylorExchange Hey we only get better by facing the truth, I think pictures arte keys in the sense that you want the lease negatives thought from potential buyer when looking at it. If the picture don't make sense that could be enought to make me move on to another item. I am the kond of guy that buy on ebay more like a compulsive buyer than always buying stuff I really really need. Because of that I think first 15 sec are Crucil for a sale! Good luck bro and tell Randi to fold clothings like she sees online retailers doing. Especially pants!

Sean, have you ever been tested for ADHD? Maybe you're just testing out other business ideas or maybe you get distracted by "shiny items". Reselling is a grind. I started in 2002 when we got our first outlet mall. It was so easy to flip stuff I found there until it wasn't. So, I had to find another way to make reselling work. I've changed how I resell a million times because I've had to evolve as a business owner. You've got to put the work on, but at the end of the day you can make a great living and you never have to ask sometimes for time off or a raise.

No ADHA but I was never able to sit back on curveballs and would constantly strike out. However, I could identify and sit on change ups and hit those to the opposite field for a base knock.

Tech practiced great trade secrets and discovered a gold mine. Now he’s selling shovels to new times where the internet (including tech) has caused a business that can’t be replicated.

You hit the nail on the head with that one.

Yep but guess what he still resells even more items now

Techs makes way much more off the Facebook group than what he did on ebay

Have to ask him. I think he sold like 3 million a year eBay at its highest. Imagine the credit card points in that many labels.
@TorranceJPlaylist3 ай бұрын
Nope made more from ebay. Plus he has to pay those in the group who run calls.

I creeped on your store. Please don’t take this the wrong way. I noticed that you have a lot of trash brands express, Hollister, Eddie Bauer etc. I think that’s probably the biggest reason for your sales
