The British guards that fired on the crowd during the Boston massacre was represented in court by a man named John Adams. One of the founding fathers. John Adams proved to the court that the British were treated really poorly and feared for their lives and he got them all cleared of all charges. I recommend that you watch the miniseries called John Adams. It is a great TV show about the revolution and it follows John Adams who later became the second president of the United States and was the vice president under Washington.

They spoke of Henry Knox moving the artillery. If you don't know, he is who Fort Knox was named after him and our US Bullion deposit is at Fort Knox on land donated by the army.

The men who gathered at the Continental Congress were indeed a brain trust. These men were already the top leaders in their individual colonies. They were among the smartest and most educated men in the colonies. And the vast distance between England and the new world had weakened the loyalty the colonist felt for the King. Americans had had to fight hard to tame this new land and in doing so had developed a sense of independence in relying on themselves and not the government to support them. The fierce loyalty to the king which hadhelped England avoid France’s fare was not present in the colonies. These are some of the most important reasons for why the American Revolution has been the most successful revolution in history. Most revolutions are usually led by a charismatic leader who is followed by a desperate citizenry. Even when they win, the revolution most times is overthrown after a few years because the leaders did not have the training and education to fulfill the promises made to the followers. Or the leaders turned brutal to stay in control and the revolution became an oppressive government with a tyrant in charge. America managed to avoid falling into that trap, due largely because of the unselfish acts of George Washington. But the Americans were led by men who did have the intelligence, the education, and the training to actually create a government which did fulfill the aims of the revolution. It was a fortunate combination at just the right time in history. The changes in political philosophy which called for independent thought was gaining ground about this time and found fertile soin in America, Thomas Paine’s writing influenced many of the citizens. And it didn’t hurt that there was an ocean on either side of the continent separating it from the rest of the world. And England having the drain of the war France helped. But there have been many revolutions won by unlikely groups. But none of them were able to maintain it and build the most powerful country in the world.

The tea thing didn't go away and drinking tea back then made you look anti-independence and to this day coffee is way more popular in the US than tea.

12:26 Woah. I just read a funny story about that Ethan Allen guy in an article that I found yesterday. A story that was told by Abraham Lincoln. The article says: _On several occasions, Lincoln told a story about a Revolutionary War patriot Ethan Allen's first trip to England after the war:_ _The British, trying to poke fun at the American, had put a picture of George Washington in the outhouse of the home where Allen was staying._ _One day, Allen's hosts asked whether he had seen the portrait of the first president._ _According to Lincoln, Allen replied:_ _"There is nothing to make an Englishman shit quicker than the sight of General George Washington."_

Great reaction. The story of the Star Spangled Banner was basically correct with some definite embellishments. It was actually during the war of 1812 when the British were kind of after us again, not during the war of Independence . They even burned the Whitehouse down

The story told in that video about the star spangled banner is almost 100% false with a few facts sprinkled in... as an extremely patriotic conservative American that gets a lump in his throat whenever he hears the star spangled banner while the stars and stripes waves, and as a lover of history, the story in that video about the star spangled banner pisses me off. The guy that made the video had to admit to not knowing what he was talking about and basically making the story up after actual American historians went after him and he removed the original video and someone re-uploaded it. The real story is much better, our guys fought back and kicked ass...

My Great (×6) Grandfather Sergeant Benjamin Haskell was actually one of the revolutionaries who fought on Bunker Hill. Supposedly, he was near General Joseph Warren when the general was killed during the battle.

Just when I thought this channel couldn't get any better! I came originally for Tom macdonald, then there is country music, then Christmas music and now oversimplified! Life is now officially good. Keep up the great reactions, and please consider reacting to oversimplified Henry V111 or prohibition?

I love Oversimplified!! Excellent choice here. In doing my family genealogy over the past two years, I’ve discovered several men who fought in this war, including my 6th great-grandfather George Pepperrell Frost. He enlisted just after Bunker Hill and stayed for the entire duration, fighting at the seige of Boston, Trenton, Princeton, Saratoga, and Monmouth, and enduring Valley Forge. I even found a letter written by one of his descendants that shared some of his stories about Valley Forge, including his observances of Washington there, who would swear like a sailor when under stress, then retreat to the nearby woods to recuperate and make plans. One of George’s brothers was the barracks master at the fort at West Point.

Interesting side note-One of George’s distant cousins was the baronet Sir William Pepperrell (the heir to the only American colonist to be made a baronet), who was a Loyalist. He was stuck in Boston during the seige (his wife died at that time), and when the Brits pulled out, he and his immediate family left and moved to London. He’s the only Loyalist I’ve found on my tree so far.

One thing they don't mention that I always thought was interesting with the multiple battles in Manhattan. The island is small. If you took out the traffic you can walk from the south to the north of the island in 3-5 hours depending on how fast you walk. It is only like 2 by 15 miles.

Yay! I was hoping you'd start reacting to Oversimplified. I'm American and my husband is British (from Leeds), so your tongue biting when it came to the French did not go unnoticed. ;-) Oversimplified videos are so detailed which is why they only release them every 4-5 months, but they are worth the wait.

You need to watch the HBO miniseries called "John Adams." It gives a more detailed account of the revolutionary war. Very well acted and produced. I don't think it would make a good reaction video but just to watch on your own time.

You should watch the movie 1776 it's a good one about the lead up to the revolutionary war focused on the Continental Congress finally deciding to declare independence. It's also a musical which makes it fun

Oversimplified videos are fun, and they have a lot of good history to introduce their topics, but many of them leave our really important things that should not have been left out. This video leaves out the impact of European diseases had on the peoples of the Americas after first contact. We know that something like 90 percent of the entire population of the New World died in less than 100 years after Europeans first arrived. The only reason that European nations could succeed in colonizing the Americas so quickly was because local populations wherever they went had mostly been ravaged by plagues...leaving that out is a huge omission. 🖖✌
