The only version I've heard is on the soundtrack of the Movie 'O Brother Where Art Thou', with George Clooney and John Goodman. These guys did a fantastic job!! Bob Dylan also did a cover of this. The original was written and performed by Richard Burnett in 1913 in Kentucky. He had six years prior to publishing the song he had been blinded in a robbers turned shooting, hence the lyrics.

It’s always fun to see someone discover Home Free. Glad you liked them and I look forward to seeing you explore more. A breakdown for you: Home Free was started in 2000 by two brothers - Chris and Adam Rupp. Adam is the beatboxer in the group (sings occasionally, is a tenor), Chris sang baritone and left the group in 2016, but you will see him in older videos (usually wears a cowboy hat). The uncle of one of the other group members loaned them the money to get started and to show their gratitude they named the group after a houseboat he had - Home Free. There have been a number of members over the years but this video shows their current line up: Beatboxer - Adam Rupp from Minnesota. In the back in the vest is Adam Chance who sings baritone although he sang bass in his previous group. He replaced Chris and to avoid confusion with Adam the beatboxer, Adam Chance is referred to as simply Chance. He is from Alabama and has a 4 octave vocal range. In the front row, the guy in the overalls with the beard and glasses was Rob Lundquist who is from Minnesota and sings tenor. In the middle singing the lead in this song was Austin Brown, high tenor. Austin is from Georgia. The bass singer is Tim Foust. Tim is from Texas and has an incredible 5 octave vocal range. So he can sing very, very low (he’s been known to blow out speakers) and he can sing very high. Keep watching and you will hear both ends of his range. They are the only known country a cappella group in the world. They can make you laugh in one song, feel happy in another, make you cry or make you think. They sing a lot of country but also do all forms of music. You will not regret looking further into them.

Awesome run down. As an update (or addendum) the band members currently live in Nashville, Minneapolis, and LA. Adam and Rob are in Minneapolis. Tim and Austin are in Nashville. Chance is in LA. They started in Mankato Minnesota where the Rupps grew up. The headquartered out of Minneapolis for a bit but, I believe, they are headquartered out of Nashville now. They tour extensively (they toured the UK before the pandemic) and are true showmen so it's an awesome show. They release around two to four new videos a month with some being music videos and some being either behind the scenes or snippets of their lives/histories. Enjoy! and thanks rebelpearl for the great write up.

He can go low and high. Check out him sharing lead in ' In the Blood'. The guy standing in back with beatboxer with dark hair and beard mak7ng jaw harp sound us the group's baritone/ bass( he does bass when Tim is singing lead) Adam Chance aka Chance. So happy to find you found Home Free!! I would absolutely love to see you check out more of them! A quick intro to them! They were founded in Minnesota by the vocal percussionist and his brother(who sang baritone for them, but has since has left to work on other music - Chance(short dark hair and beard) replaced him) Fans are called Home Fries : ) The members are Tim Foust: Bass - pretty easy to identify, but has shoulder length brown hair in most videos, but recently cut it and has a gray stripe in it(which he calls Bonnie) Austin Brown: High tenor - shoulder length curly reddish hair (he trained in college to sing theatrically, and at one point sung for the voices of liberty at Epcot! He worked really hard to learn how to sing without his Georgia accent, but earlyHome Free met him when they were entertainers on a cruise ship, and when their tenor retired, they asked if he would join except with his accent back 😂) Rob Lunquist: Lower tenor - long beard and glasses : ) Adam Chance(called Chance): current baritone - short dark hair and beard. He replaced Chris Rupp, and he used to sing bass for another a cappella group Streetcorner Symphony(which actually competed on the show The Sing-Off in the same season that Home Free won - The Sing-Off is the same show that Pentatonix won) Since he is able to sing bass, Home Free has gotten a lot more opportunity to let Tim sing lead now! Adam Rupp: beatboxer - pretty easy to identify too, but will have either short or long blondish hair. He’s just incredible, sometimes called a freak of nature for the sounds he can make. He also majored in trumpet performance in college, which probably helped him develop breathing techniques, and is a tenor when he sings which really surprised me. And Chris Rupp: bast baritone - you might see him in older videos if you check any out, he’s bald or wearing a cowboy hat. He was pretty much the driving force behind forming this group! Have tons of fun if you check out more, they really don’t have a bad song, so you can’t go wrong 😊

Home Fry here ... Thanks for letting us see your introduction to our guys :) As the Home Fries start coming in, you'll see a lot of recommendations for Mayday. Please, please, PLEASE don't react to it until you have watched enough of their videos that you can put a name to each voice, and can close your eyes and picture in your mind exactly who is singing. Trust me, THEN it will blow your mind, and you'll appreciate the absolutely jaw-dropping moments that we had when it came out. Trust me, it's worth the wait ;) In the meantime, check out both versions they have of Ring of Fire, the Butts Medley, In the Blood, Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art, Go Rest High On That Mountain, End of The Road, Helplessly Hoping, Elvira, The Gambler, Sea Shanty Medley, Do You Hear What I Hear, Country Roads .... The list goes on and on and on. These guys Excel at so MANY Genres, you will be EXTREMELY hard pressed to find a song you DON'T like. This is one Rabbit Hole you WON'T regret going down, if you choose to enter the world of the Home Fries. The first singer -- the one with a voice that can make Angels weep -- is Austin Brown, check out their When a Man Loves a Woman to see how perfect his voice truly is -- if you haven't figured it out yet before you get to that one. He worked hard to lose his country twang in his career -- and they had him bring it back for this song (he really is from the deep South). Rob (beard and overalls) -- the one who sounds like he gargles with warm honey, whose voice flows over and around you like a down comforter in the dead of winter -- is actually from Minnesota. Adam Chance (just called 'Chance' to avoid confusion) is the one doing the sound of the Mouth Harp (I played one when I was younger, we called it a Jew's Harp, through) throughout the song. He's also from the South, and has a voice that is like an old friend -- you never get tired of hearing it. He was the Bass for the group he was in previously, but gives that spot up to Tim here. Tim Foust, the basso profundo -- as the saying goes, "You ain't seen nothin' yet!". He has literally blown sub-woofers in live concerts, and you can feel the floor and your chest vibrating when he drops down to some of his low notes. You'll get a -- tiny -- feel for his 5 Octave range when you listen to him in Ring of Fire. For more of his low notes, check out Misty Mountains with Peter Hollens, Folsom Prison Blues .. pretty much most of their songs you'll pick up his bass undertones, but in those he takes center stage. Adam Rupp, the beatboxer affectionately called the 'Freak of Nature', started the group along with his brother Chris. Chris left a few years ago to start another group with their sister (yes, the whole FAMILY is super talented), but you'll see him in the earlier videos. When he left, he hand-picked Chance to be his replacement. Anyway, for more of what Adam can do, watch his drum solos. During their live performances, while the others are resting their vocal chords, he does his solo -- then goes on to finish the Concert just as strong and consistent as he was in the FIRST half. Oh, and by the way, he can also sing and harmonize just like the others. He just PREFERS to beatbox, and we ALL get to reap the benefits of his amazing talents as a result. Oh, and for the record -- 5 guys, right? Well, in those same 5 guys they have: 5 Tenors 2 Basses 5 who can do some beatboxing and 1 Freak of Nature (you'll swear that man swallowed not only an entire drum set, but that he snacks on other instruments at will) Ready to join the Home Fries in seeing and appreciating what our guys can do yet? ;)

Wonderful baritone/bass voice who takes over for Tim on the bass when Tim does lead vocals. Austin Brown (middle) - The Attic. High soaring tenor voice and another source of humor. Adam Rupp (second from the right) - The Machine. Probably swallowed a percussion section and some other random instruments as a kid. Pretty sure he's not human. Tim Foust (far right) - The Cellar. His lowest notes come from the mines of Moria. Also, in some of their older videos, you will see another guy with very little hair often wearing a cowboy hat; that is Adam Rupp's brother Chris, who left the group a few years ago for a solo career and was replaced by Chance. EVERYTHING that Home Free does is top-tier, but I'll recommend a few to continue with: " How Great Thou Art" and "Helplessly Hoping" - sheer vocal perfection. "All About That Bass," "I Swear," and "The Butts Medley" - the hilariously fun side of the guys. "Ring of Fire" (which features Avi Kaplan, the original bass from Pentatonix) and "Folsom Prison Blues" - more of Tim's insane low voice. "Do You Hear What I Hear?" - probably my favorite Home Free song. Have a blast going down the rabbit hole, and welcome to the dedicated group of fans, the Home Fries!

There have been many suggestions, so I'll just give a couple Home Free songs: Everybody Walkin This Land and My Church. However, pick anything. You won't we disappointed.

Tim Foust is the bass. He's actually blown speakers. And Adam Rupp is the beatboxer. Watch the videos on them. You will be amazed. Thank you for reacting to them ❤

If you want to check out just their voices (none of the "fancy" sounds), you need to listen to "Helplessly Hoping". Wow! Just wow! They've all got incredibly clear and beautiful voices!

They ate the first as farcas i know only country accapella band. They won season 4 of “sing off”

I believe Autocorrect drove this sentence off the tracks lol, so I'll try to translate: "They are the first - as far as I know - country a cappella band." Hope that helped 😆! And it would be fun (for us, too lol) and informative for you to really get to know Home Free, if you react to them singing their way to winning The Sing-Off, an American TV a cappella competition show...all videos can be found on the KZbin channel "mrduckbear11" for the best recordings of their performances and judges comments. I look forward to more great reactions, thanks!!! 😀

Oh boy, can they all sing. I just discovered them last year during the pandemic and they’re amazing. Adam Rupp, beatboxer, does drums, harmonica, bug sounds, all kinds of sounds. He has a video on KZbin called Adam Rupp Drum Solo which is amazing. Tim Foust, is the bass and has a 5 octave range so he can sing low and sing high. Austin Brown is the high tenor and lead here. Rob Lundquist is a tenor (glasses). Adam Chance (we call him Chance) is the baritone/bass and he did the mouth harp sound at the beginning and end of the video. They can all beatbox to some degree and they sing all genres of music. Try Country Roads, Die a Happy Man, I Can’t Outrun You, Folsom Prison Blues to hear more great harmonies. Good Reaction!

Yep...that harmonica still gets me...even after hundreds of times listening to this....I played a harmonica as a kid, and he is unbelievable spot on...Also...Tim does have a low voice in his solo, but a lot of reactors don't notice him drop an octave right after it.

Country has always wandered about and reason its beginnings are still great today is it shows American peoples lives, real lives real emotions are its deeply planted root right here in America. Gospel, jazz; blues, bluegrass; rockabilly; hockey tonk Nd the " juke joint blues a d bayous to the blues of Chicago and Northern centers of poverty SOUL is not just a Black music invention; but ambinfusion of all above; not external but eternally internal. home Free the very name of the group grabs hold of something inside, something so hard to sitmand just talk a out cannot be done it is sang instead.

They do not just do country. They can do anything, even gospel. This sing is from the movie "Brother Where Art Thou". I never saw it but it is about prisoners escaping through the swamp. That's why they depict the swamp and swamp sounds.
