Thanks for making my decision easier for replacing my irons in fall. Mizuno numbers and dispersion better than TM. Its a no-brainer + nothing feels like a Mizuno!
@JDSFLA4 жыл бұрын
This is the review I have been waiting for, because when the 770 was launched, I immediately felt that the HMB was the natural competitor. I feel that their styling is equally appealing. However, I would choose the Mizuno HMB, as the slightly larger head would give me more confidence over the ball.
@mattmcgriff59524 жыл бұрын
Been shopping the new 790s w a graphite shaft as I’m wanting to make the switch. Went to the local standalone range that has a nice little shop and club fitting setup and he had a set of HMBs with the recoils in them for a steal of a price. Went on the Mizuno swing analysis club and the shafts were in the recommendation range for me and I took the plunge. Looking forward to getting them out later in the week.

Michael: Here you can see data that show HMB clearly is the winner in comparison. Also Michael: I favor the P770 purely because it looks more sexy in my bag. No, great stuff Michael! Keep these comparisons coming, it’s way better than single reviews that always comes with the conclusion that it’s a good club (no one makes bad clubs these days)...

I still have to see a bad review of anything... either all the new clubs are very good, lately, or all the you tubers don’t want to lose their money. I start finding all these reviews are the same and pretty useless: you really need to test by yourself.

Obviously way too small sample size, but the initial standard deviation of the carry distance (arguably the most important factor) favors the Mizuno. MN said he missed a few shots on each club... early findings show Mizuno is more forgiving. Either way, both clubs appear great.

It’s funny I just watched the P7MC vs 921 Tour both 7Irns with More loft going the same distance. I really don’t buy into the tech irons going farther. I’m sure these irons maintain better ball speed out of the toe/heel but if you make a good shot the only thing that matters is loft. I’m really glad that I only have a couple larger “distance” irons. I will most likely be getting those out of the bag.

Michael, I remember that you were a big fan of the original P770. The new P770 is the same size, identical offset, and slightly strongly lofts (0.5 degrees) in some irons, but not across the board. I would be interested in seeing a comparison between the original P770's and the new 770's. Because the specs are so similar, it would be interesting to see the influence of hollow body and foam vs a non-hollow bodied iron of nearly identical spec.
@omeradhia4 жыл бұрын
Great review. Thanks for doing this. Seems TM hasn’t solved the flier issue with their hollow body irons. I will try both 770 and HMB but mizuno seems to be a winner if dispersion is important

Great review Michael, I had the JPX 919 Hot Metal Pros in a Nippon 105 regular flex but loved the look of the new HMB’s (in a Nippon 120 stiff) so I went to them but just couldn’t get along with them so I’m back in a new set of JPX 919 Hot Metal Pros with a C-Taper Lite 110 regular shaft and I’m much happier! In saying all that, if you choose a beautiful new iron head like the 770’s make sure you get fitted for the proper shaft, it makes a world of difference.

I've played the HMBs for about 6 months. They are the highest performing irons I've ever played. They are high and long, and feel as good as any forged clubs I've ever had in my bag. Michale, the spin differences are interesting, as I've had to learn to be a bit more aggressive hitting into greens because the ball stops on the proverbial dime. I will agree that the top edge is a bit thick but that's a minor complaint. I love my HMBs and from your test see no reason to try the new TM.

there's clearly a difference in dispersion there with the hmbs being much tighter. I dont know why at the end of the review you go on about the "tech" in the 770s with the speed slot, seen as there was a much bigger drop off with low strikes on them compared to the hmb. From a cosmetics standpoint, yeah fair enough the 770s look a bit nicer though.

@@brettrobertson2538 Honestly, they don't know what they're talking about then. The only club that isn't completely appropriate for a 13 is a complete set of blades - and even then, you could combo blades, PW-8 irons, then switch to 7,6,5 in HMBs, and then if you want a 4 iron (I stop at a 24 degree 5 iron), use a Hot Metal Pro type club. Go demo some Srixon ZX5s, Mizuno Hot Metal Pros & HMBs, and Callaway Apex & Pros - there are lots of great irons out there.
