you're way too underated as a youtuber man. You have fire content , sick builds and very very informative videos. It's actually not that common to find a youtuber that does all that and actually knows how to properly explain how stuff works. Thanks for this video Taylor I learned a lot from it

Great explanation. Being able to effectively communicate a technical topic with out coming off douchey and with out using a bunch of jargon shows you have a high level of experience and knowledge of the topic. Well done, I subscribed because of this video EDIT - and TTTTYT is funny and you should run with it Another EDIT - Props for also being able to do this while basically talking to yourself, its so easy to get lost on tangents and stray from the actual topic while explaining technical stuff you're passionate about.

Thank you! This was a really nice comment to read I’m glad you liked it. I’ve wanted to do videos like this for awhile because I know how little I knew when I started out and I’ve learned so much over 8-10 years of doing this from a lot of great people and if I can help someone jump the first few steps of trying to figure it out it gets them driving and progressing faster.

Great video man! Your videos are always super informative, definitely going to watch the coilover vid. Its crazy how tuning in video games has taught me, through trial and error, all of the things you've explained here. Its also interesting to explain to people not used to drift tuning that you essentially set it up for understeer characteristics, which is counter-intuitive initially. (hard front, soft rear springs, stiff front A.R.B., soft rear, etc). I also like to run toe out in the front, helps at full angle with those situations where you may over rotate, to get it back (backies etc) Cheers!

Brilliant video man, its something I've asked you about before so thanks for taking the time to make this! Specifically having the comments on what each adjustment actually does for the cars feel which is the main thing I wonder about! More in this series would be awesome if there's other stuff you could do, even doing welding? Main things being the things you learned that you found make huge improvements in your welding as you learned. For me it was an autodimming helmet and watching the weld pool to really gauge penetration which I figured out myself as no tutorials I watched had even mentioned this. Overall I'm loving the videos, please don't go too commercial like Adam :(

One of the vans had yellow headlights. For some reason or another I feel in love with it. Maybe you should tint your headlights yellow. I think it would look good with your paint.

@lynnmckenney19872 жыл бұрын
Insanely informative! If you were looking to setup a car for (non competitive) drifting, but also drive to events, would you find the perfect drift suspension setup and soften it by a %? Or would something like the bc ds series be a happy medium? *I ask because I'm looking to pickup a drift car soon, but will have to drive it to events and have had back surgery. I can't really handle a 4 hr drive + drifting + another 4 hr drive on an insanely hard suspension anymore 🥲*

3:58 I'm kinda confused here, because I can never figure out an answer to this question for my application... I'm drifting an e36 325i on stock power. Long story short, the rulebook for my class says NA cars up to 2.8L (only engines that came in the chassis), only engine mods allowed are int/exh and ecu, can't change suspension and steering geometry at all, we are only allowed to swap coils/springs (coilovers allowed obviously) Should I aim for a setup that is really easy to slide or should I still go for rear grip? This car makes 180 crank tops...

Also I should clarify that I mostly won't be drifting with r-comps and I run around 205-225 tires

G'day mate. I have a question. Here in Australia.... Home of the metric system we still rate suspension springs and valve springs in lbs per inch of compression. How does that match up to what ever system you guys use?
@111dontworry5 жыл бұрын
If any of you want to test what will happen if you change certain set ups, use a racing sim or forza even. Want to see what negative camber in the front will do to your car? Max it out on forza on a car that you've driven, take it on the track and see how it reacts. This will at least get you in the ball park of how things will react while under load and at different settings. Taylor, I wish I could pick your brain about suspension all day lol.

I got the silvers neomax with the true one piece coils in the rear on my e46 with their out of the box spring rates at 12k front and 10k rear and it rides like complete dog poop in the rear. I mean, anything more than a minor bump in the road and i feel like the rear end wants to launch me into outer space. Ive tried messing with more and less preload and with the damping all the way from soft to hard and still wants to launch me out of the car which is wierd because everybody swears by the 12/10 combo. By what im understanding, i should have went with a way softer spring in the rear since the position of the spring has been changed. Any info would be appreciated.
@ArchOfficial4 жыл бұрын
10/12 might be fine with an independent spring and damper setup, because the motion ratio of the spring is relatively low. I don't know what exactly it is on E46's, but I believe it's around 0.65 or so. It's because the spring is mounted on an arm, more inwards from the hub. The front spring is mounted on the strut which is attached to the hub, so it's commonly more like 0.9 to 1.0. So a 12k spring will be close to 12k on your front wheel, but a 10k spring will not be 10k on the rear wheel. If you changed to a true coil-over, the motion ratio has now been changed closer to 1.0, because the spring moves closer to how the wheel moves. It might be something like 0.95 instead of 0.65. Wheelrate is found via Springrate * (Instantaneous motion ratio * Average motion ratio), or just MR^2 usually works for an approximation. So let's do some math: 117720 N/m x 0.95^2 = 106242.3 N/m front wheelrate. Of course strut's motion ratio depends a lot on the angles but let's say this is an average. 98100 N/m x 0.65^2 = 41447.25 N/m rear wheelrate. The front has over twice the effective wheelrate! Now let's try the coilover with the same springs. 98100 N/m x 0.95^2 = 88535.25 N/m rear wheelrate. As you see, changing to a coilover setup more or less 2x your actual real effective wheelrates. Roadcars often try to keep the wheelrates pretty even, usually because the front has more load over it, which means the ride frequency will be lower in the front, and you get a bit of "flat ride". RWD racecars will want the rear soft for grip, but also IMO when you start to approach these kind of high wheelrates, you either want HIGHER rear frequency, so put a STIFFER spring on, to get flat ride which will lessen that jerk you feel when driving over a bump (Because the axles settle in order, and don't interfere with each other as much) or you might want the rear softer (Like if you weren't mounting the 10k spring on a coilover, but the OEM setup) so that the actual jolt is smaller. Right now you're in a very awkward spot where the rear isn't soft enough to minimize the felt forces, but you also don't have any flat ride, so the axles interfere with each other when you drive over bumps, giving you that sensation of being jerked around. Don't take my word for it, but I think you might need either a 10k spring in the front, or a 12k spring in the rear. You will need to balance it back out with stabilizers if the handling is too loose. Also, make sure you're not too low and have enough stroke! It can also be a bumpstop impact on the coilover when hitting a big enough bump. Perhaps your bumpstops are too long? My 0,02.
