Honestly your outlook on staying motivated is what I have been trying the last few weeks , not with hiking but with going through kidney failure and dialysis I'm getting through one day at a time and trying to find the beautiful things I am grateful for in my life at the moment. I hope to do a through hike one day after my transplant to raise money for kidney foundation and you really motivated me.to live life the best I can.

Who would have thought PA would be so pretty! Gorgeous spring flowers and bright greens! Meanwhile in NH 4th week of cold, crappy, cloudy, dreary rainy weather

Having grown up in PA, trust me it doesn’t all look that amazing! But today’s section of trail was unreal perfect! Gloomy day up here in Mass today so it was nice to see some sun and springtime!

Unfortunately, there are several warehousing complexes near the US11/AT intersection, and major highway crossings (PA Turnpike/I-81), so the noise pollution is pretty bad at times.

@@andrewwiist1003 ahhhhhh the sounds of PA! I remember taking the greyhound across the state many times going to see my grandma in the summers. The sound of the thump of the road and growl of the bus on the turnpike for 7 hours is not something I miss! Neither are the smell of the paper mill and cows when I arrived lol. Well maybe I miss them a little. 😋 Be well. -Grateful

@@gratefulhikes Ha ha ! I've taken the I-81 to SNP many times in the spring and the southern part of Pa. is just like what she hiked through (that part is near I-81). Farms with the mustard flowers and green, green, green, Very pretty. Phlox and daisies will be blooming next on the highways. It did smell of manure but so does NH upstate and Vermont. Still a few farms. If I wanted to smell a paper mill I could go to Baxter S.P. Millinocket was a paper mill town (couldn't smell it all the way in Baxter but when you went to town you did). That mill closed years ago. What I remember the most about Pa. was all the dead deer on the side of the highway. I used to count them. Not so many after the 2000's. Not sure how they manage to keep them off the road now. Any idea ? I've always wondered.

@@djg5950 I agree about the deer. Maybe all the less intelligent ones were killed off and now there is just a master race of genius deer in PA?

Who’s picking at whom? As an AT thru hiker, I can speak from experience that my biggest regret was that I didn’t enjoy the journey more because I got caught up in the big miles game. I finished much earlier than planned and the let down from being on the trail was big.

I live in the Harrisburg area, so I've been waiting for you to make it to this stretch. I've done many short hikes in this section. It's fun to hear/see other's perspective of the trail in this area. Brilliant "hands free" water filter .. that was so cool. Nice move!! And of course the famous Taylor slo-no shot. Lol
@djg59503 жыл бұрын
Is this the first time you are seeing this ? Guess it's not talked about as much now as it was 5 yrs ago. There's a connector thing that fits on the filter that connects the bottle to the filter so that you don't have to hold it. You just hang the bag of water from a tree near the stream and let gravity do all the work. That's the way I always filtered my water.
@frolege13 жыл бұрын
@@djg5950 Yeah, I just didn't see it hang like that before but Taylor educated me. I'm sorry I'm such a rookie (lol)
@djg59503 жыл бұрын
@@frolege1 Not at all. I don't know how long you've been watching these videos. Hands free filtering was a thing years ago. Many thru hikers made videos on how to do it. I'm just surprised that this is the first time you've seen it done. A string was tied to the water bag so you could hang it and the connector held the bottle upright and in place.
