I'm about to marathon these vids, I'm so excited to watch your second thru-hike! I just watched your first documentary the other day and loved every minute. Your on-camera presence is a breath of fresh air, you make watching this whole journey really fun and interesting. Happy hiking! I hope to one day do similar adventures. 🌄

Lucked into a Hyperlite Southwest 70 in an REI in Salt Lake City in their 'garage sale' section ... had been returned because it lacked load lifters. I believe it's priced about the same as yours, but I got it for $199. Have taken it out twice now, and love it.

I’ve tried a few down quilts but i have to say the Sierra Design 35 degree is my favorite. I’m a hot sleeper and when the temps drop to the 20’s i was good. They also have a feature where there’s an opening for your head to keep it covered… game changer!

I'm curious as to why you don't just re use the gear from the last year? good luck. I usually am following someone on their through hike via utube, but this is the first year in a while , I haven't found anyone to watch. Who is everyone else watching. So Taylor, you're it. lol.

I really like the prospects of the solo plex. I'd be curious to know if you see more of those than duplex this time around. The inside looks plenty big for one hiker plus gear. Nice to see the pricings too, very interesting.

After carrying the HMG 3400 on the CT last year, I’m a fan of their packs. Also, I’ve used assorted and many tents in my time. ZPacks quality, function and service have me hooked. I used an Altaplex last year and recently switched to a Plex Solo after realizing the Durston Xmid solo was not for me. Good luck on another AT journey

Very nice kit. Looking forward to you getting out and putting your new gear to the test. I’m a bit concerned about the “trash pocket” on the pack idea though. If some of your snacks rub off the wrappers onto the pack it would seem to me the scent would be a rodent magnet and you’re going to get your really expensive pack chewed if the trash pocket starts smelling like chocolate and nuts.

I switched out my Zpack, for the Hyperlite 3400. I like your mesh better, as mine kept unstitching. Hyperlite sent me two replacements, so now I have three, LOL. Curious as to how your bag works. I used my Kelty mummy bag (20 degree) for most of my thru hike, changing to my 30 degree quilt in Virginia, until the Whites. Good R value, on your pad. I am sold on my Nemo Tensor (only 4.2 R value). Nemo's return policy was a good feature. I sold my Duplex and Nemo Hornet 2 (swapped them out on trail) and have ordered the Xmid 2. Can't wait to try it out. Fellow New Hampshirite, looking to do some magic this year. Maybe I'll see you. Happy hiking.

You’ve got more time on trail than I do, but I never understood using your sleeping pad against your back to protect your back from pointy stuff. I’m always scared of little punctures in the pad and I protect it as much as I can.

Hi Taylor! Watched your whole ‘21 thru & can’t wait to follow your ‘23! I have penciled in an AT thru for ‘24 and have been researching the top 4! I have the page with that EXACT same pack opened on my phone as it’s one of my faves! So I think THAT was confirmation as THE one I need to get. (I just hope the smallest size will fit my short torso correctly!😬 AND I hope that white doesn’t get TOO yucky lol!) Anyway, will you use a pack cover for rain? If so, which do you recommend? Thank you! Lisa

I am so indecisive on my shelter for my ‘25 attempt. Hammock ( my normal) , duplex, Altaplex…now Plex Solo 😡… and the Xmid pro 1 or 2…. Obviously way to much money to try all…..but I have time. Thank you for this video ! I’ll be watching.
@jonsanford2515

I have a standard Durston x-mid 1p. There’s just enough floor space for 1person plus a few items inside the netting. The headroom inside the netting, and vestibule space makes it feel way less claustrophobic than a typical 1p tent, and there’s more than enough covered space for gear outside the netting. Both x-mid sizes are super simple to set up. For normal everyday use, the 2p pro isn’t much more expensive, and doesn’t weigh much more than the 1p pro. I’d say go for that, over the 1p for the extra interior space. However, the 2p x-mid has a really large footprint (for a 2 person tent). Parts of the AT don’t have a lot of flat space. The size of the x-mid pro 2p might occasionally limit where you can camp. So, I’d recommend the 1p, between the two for the AT specifically.
@deerless999
@deerless999 Жыл бұрын
@@jonsanford2515 thank you ! I am leaning towards the Xmid Pro 1, mainly due to that footprint size.

Great little review. Not exactly sold on the HMG pack, it looks like they have just copied most the features on the Atom Pack Mo. I ditched my Thermarest because I find it really uncomfortable for side sleeping and switched out to the R5.

If you're using 10 stakes it's not actually the lightest tent. X-Mid Pro 1 uses 4 stakes which makes up for the 2 oz difference. That's splitting hairs though.
