She is a good friend of my mother and she is a really lovely lady. I like your title it made me laugh. Tayu in Kyoto is like writing Eiffel Tower in Paris ! Because Tayu only exist in Kyoto. But you are lucky you could book her, because she is quite in demand and she is a very respected artist.

Thanks for the note. We were very fortunate to see her. It was a mesmerizing performance. I titled it 'Tayu in Kyoto' because I am from the United States and my friends wouldn't know where it was. We have traveled to Japan three times and each time there are one or two things that are really special. This was the most amazing one. - Phillip

@@cue1ball Thank you very much for your visit Philip. And for your kind reply. I really didn't mean to attack the title, i just thought it had a funny twist to it and liked it. Next time you visit Japan, drop me a line here and if you want to meet Geisha in Akasaka (Tokyo), i can arrange it since my mother in law was one of them (she retired now, but my sister in law is still in active service). They are not Tayu but Akasaka is by far the most private Hanamachi in Japan, so this could be a good experience for you.

@@kachi2782 Hello - thanks for the note and the generous offer to meet Geisha in Akasaka. It will be about two years before we may have an opportunity to return to your beautiful country. I will keep your note for that time. And I didn't think you were attacking the title. I smiled when I read it made you laugh. Take care ~ Phillip

She's my idol! Guh, you're so lucky to get to see her! Thank you for sharing this, there isn't nearly enough footage of the still-practicing Tayu, and Aoi-tayu is the best in my opinion.

Algunos trages tradicionales de Japón son para regresar ha su infancia por eso se saben arrodillar sin que se vean las piernas

And now that I've read through the thread, and at the risk of being called a total idiot for getting involved, here's my source for both Tayu and Oiran. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lYqYp5ZugtKahKc From my understanding, neither exist in their traditional roles of courtesan, the Tayu' services were even more expensive and exclusive than those of the Oiran, and modern displays are often performed by professional dancers that no longer has anything to do with prostitution in the Western sense of things. It also seems to me that the artistry of Tayu/Oiran vs Geiko (Geisha)/Maiko overlap with a high requirement of artistic skills in performing as well as literacy and conversation, while the former in the past would add sexual services if she wanted to. I see from this short video that there is a young girl to her right. I guess she would represent the young apprentices/servants who accompanied her and who might follow the same career if suitable for it at 17 years of age. A below commenter has stated that not even within Japan do people know all the distinctions between the different artists or what their services entail. I may therefore stand corrected very soon if a real expert turns up. I'm still learning about a culture I find both intriguing and beautiful.

From what I remember from an interview from "Let's ask Shogo", Oiran and Tayū were quite different! Oiran began copying the fashion of the Tayū and some eventually called themselves Tayū. Because of this, people often all assume all Tayū were Oiran, when this isn't nessisarily the case Here's the interview if you're interested :D kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGbQqIKcgc6khcU
