Considering some game writer involvement, I'm glad the crew was able to produce what they did and just enjoy doing it. You could also tell some of the cast was having a good time filming it cause alot of interactions seemed genuine and fun. It's good when people want to pay respect to a franchise and keep some of the core feelings of said franchise alive.

I do wish for Season 2 that they start off with a garage montage of each of the drivers modifying their cars for full combat to the point where they even start applying their signature weapons. Hell, even throwing in a little easter egg by having TM Head-On's menu music playing through a radio during the montage. I don't particularly agree with some of the character deaths, but I guess if you are going to have multiple drivers who pilot the same kind of vehicle, then one of them has to go. RIP to those people, I had hoped to see more of them or wish they somehow survived.

I'd rather him not have a zany, over-the-top performance like in the earlier games. I'd want him close to how he was in the TM2 comic, just less psycho and nothing directly involving the devil. I really want Minion to be a djinn that came to Calypso in the midst of his car crash and that's how he got such power, influence and why all the paranormal shit is happening around him, drawn to him like a magnet.

I honestly think it’s his best look, and the perfect blend of his TM 1-4 and TM Black designs. As for personality, have him be a witty showman who revels in the chaos his tournament causes, yet is by no means a pushover and will gladly screw you should you try and muscle in on him.

The torture scene actually reminds me of a specific section from a book called Eric which is apart of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. This is an explanation: "Torture doesn't work, so hell has actually been designed along lines we can all identify with: the grey-faced nightmare of interminable and infernal red tape and the mindless bureaucracy that suffocates every last hopeful thought and replaces eternity with an infinite miserable wait for nothing to happen. My main issues were how some characters were portrayed, at least the ones that seemed in-name only (Preacher, Mr. Slam, and any officer that wasn’t Agent Stone), but those were all fairly minor. While I do prefer JS Gilbert’s voice for Needles, Arnett is definitely a close second for me, plus the latter’s voice does fit the tone of the show better than the former’s anyway. It was a bit jarring to see Needles with arguably his most recognizable look with the zaniness of his earliest incarnations, but both Arnett and Samoa Joe make it work.

I appreciate the blending of characters from all eras of twisted metal and i really had no problem with them altering the character portrayals & relationships. Im glad they didnt just stick to black or (2012) for the setting and story.

It's easily a mixed bag, some stuff lands hard and well, others flop and fart into the wind. Any scene with Sweet Tooth is generally the pinnacle height that the show reaches. Whilst he is the mascot of the franchise, he also embodies the chaotic apathy (I assume) older fans of the series resonate with and darker humour I personally wanted. The rest of the show is a little off-brand but enjoyable. It feels too on the nose at times, but serviceable. It was more happy go lucky Mad Max than Twisted Metal, but hey, I fucking love Mad Max and this worked in it's own off-beat way. For me what will make this season worth existing, is if Season 2 is actually solid, it's the tournament that we really want to see. Whilst this season could've been better and a more gritty Death Race style TV show, I will happily consider it the worthwhile world-building, character developing journey if Season 02 delivers.

@@MaxRamos8 Because My Immortal being played for not just Twisted Metal, but a Twisted Metal that's meant to be an action comedy, creates a surreal dissonance where you're left wondering if it was chosen as an act of sarcasm or genuine pathos. My Immortal is a song about mourning someone you've lost and reflecting on how you couldn't help them no matter how hard you tried, being played in the context of a franchise that's largely about CAUSING those losses as collateral damage to whatever else you're doing at the moment and not even giving it a second thought... but it _still_ manages to work, in part because a lot of the contestants have ulterior motives relating to the loss of a loved one, and even Calypso is choking back his own emotional trauma to host the competition in most games.

I loved this show for many reasons, the cast, the characters, the references. I felt like it really resonated with me in the sense of it wasn't trying to directly emulate the game but still included many references that I was able to understand, mainly since I have been binging vids from people like you. I was a joy to see what they did with the most iconic character and how they were able to not only work with how his character would be presented but I believe they casted him perfectly. I feel as if many expected the show to be just like the games despite the games not being entirely linear, and anyone who didn't expect as such probably didn't care for the constant tonal shift with there being one serious scene one moment and the next is entirely goofy. Either way i cannot wait for season 2.

I knew the show was gonna be something fun. But man, going into it I was not expecting it to be that good. Granted its not perfect. But for what it accomplished, it does a great job. Biggest shocks for me was seeing certain stuff from the games like Harold, Flower Power, Pit Viper and etc. Like seeing those was proof that this show was made by the fans. Also, can we appreciate how characters like Mike and Stu are given additional development from their original counterparts? That was a treat to see. And Sweet Tooth in the show is a lot of fun. I can go on and on about what they did right in this show. I hope that the show gets a Season 2. I wanna see how it can be furthered and where they can improve certain aspects that didn't work in the first season.

The show was honestly amazing. I do think it catered more toward the fans of the franchise especially with the teaser at the end of the season. The whole season was filled with the little nuggets where a fan would go "ohhhh! it's that!" and I think they did a good job in incorporating some of the stories of the characters to the show. It's hard to do especially with the nature of the Twisted Metal games where there are technically multiple endings. With that aside, the characters' interactions and the development of John's and Quiet's relationships made it feel like an actual show where you can connect with the characters. 8.5 / 10 show. super excited for season 2.

I'm subscribing just for 21:08. Clearly this season was a proof of concept. Peacock green lit a season with a smaller budget to see how it went and in Season 2 we'll have a much bigger budget to get much bigger car battles. Hence why they set it up in the final episode. Very much agree with how you said people expected a darker tone because of Twisted Metal Black. That was the only TM game I really played but I knew very well the other entries were more camp and wasn't at all surprised they went with a comedy.

TBP, I’m not sure if you caught this or if anyone else mentioned it but I believe it was in the ball pit scene Quiet talked about a previous lover named Adrian. The guy who plays Preacher in this show also played a detective in Brooklyn 99, who’s name was….. Adrian, and was in a relationship with detective Diaz, I mean Quiet. I’m not sure if anyone else caught that.

I enjoyed the TV show and I truly believe there will be a season 2 and almost everyone will be back for the tournament including Sweet Tooth because there is no normal way to kill off the mad clown unless you’re Calypso.

I definitely believe that. No way Sweet Tooth dies from being run over. He’s a psychotic and vengeful spirit. Also loved his one man stand up routine with John and Quiet as the audience. Thought it was entertaining even though Sweet Tooth was failing at it.

actually sweet tooth did pretty good on the show. it made me appreciate his character more honestly. i like how they gave sweet tooth more personality. this show was pretty decent. i agree the jokes were overwhelming. but as far as sweet, 10/10

Twisted metal is the best car combat game. There were others that probably would have been better to adapt to a TV show. Like a vigilantiate 8 or rouge trip.

I went in with no expectations because I really didn't know how they were gonna make this work. The trailers did not help, in fact I agree with Moistcritkal that it seems like they intentionally picked the worst scenes possible for the trailers. I'm wondering if that was intentional, now, though. Because it threw everyone off into theories, and they really did the most faithful and straightforward thing they could: they took lore from every game (including the Small Brawl easter egg), and gave us essentially a Roadkill origin story AND a new character, both of whom were written near-perfectly. Not all of the jokes landed. Yes the budget showed in a few places, but overall I legitimately think this may be my favorite video game adaption yet. They managed to somehow hit EVERY aspect that made EVERY game fun or interesting.

I was really disappointed with how they represented certain characters as either completely throwaway or literally have them there in name only for no other reason than to be recognized such as Mr. Slam, Granny Dread, the Roberts', Flower Power, Amanda Watts, etc

maybe some of the minor characters will be back next season for a bigger role. They can't introduce too many main characters too fast or it would be overwhelming to the viewer. I think we will see Mr. Slam, Flower Power, Amanda Watts and Viper in the tournament next season.

I grew up playing TM1 and TM2, so this franchise is sentimental to me. I didn't watch the show, because I expected NBC to ruin it. I finally took the bait and gave it a shot, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's actually a good TV show and it includes Twisted Metal stuff. I find that shocking, honestly. I do hope Mr. Slam returns with his front-end loader and I was very excited to see that glimpse of Axle without his wheels yet. That could be a goldmine of drama right there.

I kinda disagree with the last of us vibes, mostly cause to me, it gave me borderlands vibes cause some of the kinda nutty people and gangs, only thing missing is the sci-fi aspect but yeah, like, this is what i'd want out of a Borderlands movie/series, kinda silly but not Borderlands 3 silly. It even checks out considering Borderlands also has plenty of car stuff. If the rumoured Borderlands adaptation sucks there's at least this, in a way.

I'd say Twisted Metal is to The Last of Us what Nobody was to John Wick. Critically it's not as good but it's still a good time. If they ever made a season 2 or part 2 to either of those things I'd watch it and most likely enjoy it more than the first movie or season. It'd be really hard for the writers and directors to fuck it up when really they only have to beat a score of like 7/10.

Season 1 was basically a pilot episode strung out into an entire season leading up to the contest. I think the show was forcing the 90's/early 2000's vibe and the 90's was cringe af so I think they nailed it.

I felt almost exactly as u did. I've been a huge TM fan since I was like 6, even have Sweet tooths mask tattooed on my arm. And my number 1 highest worry was them making him too jokey. The casino trailer made me lose all hope of this being good. But thank God it's only that 1 bad scene with sweet tooth and all the rest are gold. Also somehow Quiet ended up being my favorite character!😊

The way to go about making a true twisted metal series or movie is you have to make five to nine solo episodes on the most popular main characters and then have the final series or movie be the tournament so everybody gets their own backstory

So the first season was good. Wasn’t amazing but for what it was, it did it’s job. However, the literal last maybe 2 minutes of the final minutes got me so unbelievably hyped for the next season that I almost jumped out of my skin

I actually was ready to quit after the first episode, but decided to try another and got hooked. It's very different but the nods (and they're mostly just nods) are fun and I like the story--pretty much agree with your whole review. I had to watch some story videos to remind myself (or fill gaps) of the TM story line because I hadn't played in years. I geeked when the one episode ended with the graffiti "Calypso Lives" because I had gotten to think they weren't going to include him at all.
