TBPPM Webinar 24-5 | Analyzing Patient Journeys to Understand Health-Seeking Behaviors

Patient-centered care lies at the heart of the WHO End TB Strategy, which prioritizes the efficient positioning of TB prevention and care services to meet patients' needs. Rather than simply considering where services can be provided, this approach emphasizes placing services where they can best serve TB patients, thereby enhancing the delivery of patient-centered care.
The first one, the (PPA) methodology was developed to assess the alignment between patient care seeking and the availability of TB services. The second - Patient Journey Analysis (PJA) maps the journey of TB patients from seeking care to being cured and identifies gaps and opportunities for improvement in service availability and accessibility. These analyses, conducted at various levels of the health system, informs programmatic decision-making and planning to enhance the patient-centeredness of TB services. Ultimately, by understanding the patient pathway and service availability, stakeholders can better prioritize resources and interventions to ensure that TB patients receive timely and comprehensive care tailored to their needs.
In this session we will hear from researchers from McGill University, University of Waterloo and Universitas Padjadjaran who conducted the COVET study Patient Journey Analyses in Indonesia, Nigeria and India; in addition to experiences of a researcher from Harvard University on Patient Pathway Analysis in TB to elucidate the alignment between care seeking and service availability, identifying delays, access issues, and dropout points for TB patients.
